Carmindy Review

By Chantelle Joy Duxbury on April 1st, 2011
Our Rating: ★★★½☆ :: GOOD MAKEUP TIPS
iPhone App - Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad

Celebrity make up artist Carmindy offers some useful tips, videos and other info in this new app.

Developer: Appsolute Media
Price: $2.99
Version: 1.0

iPhone Integration Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
User Interface Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.67 out of 5 stars

Perhaps you know Carmindy from TLC’s “What not to Wear,” or simply as a prolific and popular celebrity makeup artist. Either way, if you’re a fan of hers you’ll definitely want to check out her new app which launched this week, offering a host of makeup tips, advice, guides to specific looks and more.

There are two parts of this app which are most useful for makeup tips and advice. The first is the list of eight different looks, from Carmindy’s ‘Famous’ 5-Minute Face, to ‘Date Night’ to ‘Holiday Party’ and more. After you’ve created a profile, filling in such details and hair and eye color, you’ll get step-by-step instructions for each look. There are also 16 videos featuring Carmindy herself showing you how to perform some, but not all, of the steps within the looks.

While the videos are quite helpful, the step-by-step instructions for each look are a bit lacking in detail and description. Another issue is that they say it offers “Full view with illustrations” in Landscape mode, however there are no illustrations it’s just the same information. Additionally, while the suggestions for specific products to use with each look are somewhat helpful, and I do appreciate her including both low-end and high-end priced options, you can’t individually select items (just the categories) to add to the shopping list. Furthermore, some items are simply not available in certain areas, stores, etc. To be more useful if it offered direct links to merchants or online beauty stores that definitely carry the items mentioned.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the other features, such as note-taking and photo saving for you to interact with the app to save your favourite looks. You can Tweet or Facebook your favorite looks to save with friends. There’s also a section which brings in Carmindy’s twitter feed, and info about her, links to her site and more.

Overall, I think this app is plenty useful for a quick reference for make-up tips, and for fans of Carmindy and her fresh and unique style. I don’t know if everyone will want to pay the $4.99 – luckily it’s currently on sale for $2.99, so try and pick it up before it jumps back up.

Color gets $41 million in investment capital

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 01:30 PM PDT

Before it was even available on the App Store, the new photography/social media app Color was a hot topic, making headlines for reportedly receiving $41 million in investment start-up money from venture capital firms Sequoia and Bain Capita.

The unprecedented sum was given to the minds behind the app, Bill Ngyuen – who is well known for having been the founder of Lala, a music sharing app which he had sold to Apple and was later shut down completely, which lead to his departure from Apple.

Risking that kind of dough on an app that wasn’t even yet available is certainly an interesting move. Especially one that is so unique as Color. It purports to be an all-in-one photo based social media network for the iPhone.

Unfortunately, while the buzz from the announcement of the funds they received may have helped with the push for users to download the app, which is free, the iTunes ratings are abysmal. As of writing this they had nearly 900 ratings, at an average of 2 stars.

So, at this point is is unknown what kind of financial impact this will have on the investors, in addition to how this may effect future investors for new iPhone apps and developers.

See if you agree; download the app below.

This might not seem like an immediately obvious dilemma, but do you know how tough it is to inform everyone about the birth of your child?

I don’t admittedly know this from personal experience but I’ve seen many an ecstatically happy yet exhausted soul deal with this predicament. The problem lies in ensuring that everyone who needs to know finds out fast, without anyone finding out before someone else. It’s a logistical minefield. Even more so when you consider all you really want to do is coo at your adorable new baby.

Enter Stork.cc, an app that aims to remove this problem. Yes, there really is an app for everything!

All you have to do is enter the baby’s name, weight, height, gender and the date and time of their birth, take a photo then send the announcement via email. You’ve just saved yourself plenty of time that you can now spend with your newborn instead!

Get In Touch With Your Gangsta Side With Big Time Gangsta

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:30 PM PDT

I’m not down with the gangsters. I’m about as ungangster as you can get, mostly being a mild mannered English person who’s quite happy to do the whole afternoon tea and cucumber sandwich thing.

Still, gaming is all about assuming a totally alien persona, right? In which case, Big Time Gangsta should be ideal for such a purpose.

Courtesy of Glu Mobile, Big Time Gangsta has just hit the app store for the grand price of absolutely nothing. This is a freemium game encouraging you to buy in-app purchases such as extra credits for various prices. Its visual style is kind of reminiscient of Contract Killer, another freemium game from Glu Mobile. Big Time Gangsta promises Mafia Wars style gameplay but with some more attractive visuals thanks to the 3D shootouts, which look pretty cool.

Take a look for yourself with the game trailer below, and let us know what you think of the game in the comments below.

Chicken Balls HD Review

Chicken Balls HD Review

By Timothy Smith on April 1st, 2011
Our Rating: ★★★★½ :: LAUNCHY
iPad Only App - Designed for the iPad

Chicken Balls manages to combine several mainstream game experiences into one polished package.

Developer: Endloop Systems

Price: $2.99
Version: 1.0
App Reviewed on: iPad

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
User Interface Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 4.38 out of 5 stars

Chicken Balls sound like a scrumptious treat you might pick up at a low rate fast food joint, but rest assured your cholesterol levels are safe. It’s actually the latest game from Endloop Systems. Chicken Balls is a romp in familiar territory, but it manages to stay fresh by combining elements from several genres. If I had to put a label on it, I would call it an action puzzle hybrid.

At first glance you might write the game off as an Angry Birds clone, but after playing a few levels you’ll realize that Chicken Balls refines aspects of some of the best casual puzzle games of the decade to make something decidedly unique. The menus and layout are extremely user friendly and should be familiar to anyone who has played Angry Birds (let’s be honest, who hasn’t).

You are tasked with flinging a ball shaped chicken across the stage in an attempt to free baby chicks from alien captivity. UFO’s and various wooden structures try to impede your progress, and if you run out of chicken balls before freeing the little babes you have to restart the level. It all sounds very familiar right? Well Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Endloop Systems throws a curveball into the mix. Eggs, bumpers, and Farmageddon are introduced and the game totally changes.

The eggs and bumpers add a Peggle style to the game that’s surprisingly fun, and if you manage to snag all the eggs in a stage you get to release the wrath of Farmageddon. This basically sends a plethora of farm critters raining down from the sky for total destruction (plus mega score bonuses). During the chaos, buildings will crumble and aliens will fly out of their UFO’s. If you smash the aliens with your finger before they hit the ground you’ll get some epic high scores. The game doesn’t stop their either because Endlood decided to include various power-ups to spice up the Chicken Balls experience even more.

The game is chocked full of content with tons of levels, and the replay-ability is pretty much limitless if you are a high score junkie. I thought the difficulty scaled well, but some levels can be frustrating because of the slight luck factor. With enough trial and error or blatant skill you can suppress the “game of chance” feel, and once you get good you’ll be banking shots off bumpers and blowing fake gun smoke from your fingertips. Nothing feels better than launching a perfect shot across the screen.

Chicken Balls does a great job setting itself apart even though it has some stiff competition from Angry Birds. The graphics and humor give the game a great vibe, and the added gameplay elements really make for a deep experience. Sometimes I felt like the physics were a little off, but I couldn’t tell if it was just my lack of skill or an actual shortcoming. The good news is Endloop Systems is preparing for some really enticing updates. Buyers can expect new gameplay and levels with future updates from the developer. I know I might cause some controversy saying this, but Chicken Balls is my new favorite avian launching action puzzle game.

Lane Splitter Review

By Phillip Levin on April 1st, 2011
Our Rating: ★★★★☆ :: FUN
Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Fun, addictive and definitely worth a dollar.

Developer: Fractive
Price: $0.99

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

A little traffic is not going to stop Jake Melton from making it to his wedding on time.

Lane Splitter is a top-down arcade-style motorcycle game in which you have to tilt your iOS device left and right to steer Jake and his bike down a busy freeway, avoiding other vehicles along the way. If you physically touch any vehicle, it’s game over. At the beginning of the game, you’ll occasionally have to dodge a car here and there, but as you get further into it, the traffic will increase to the point where you’re constantly dodging other vehicles. Indeed, the title becomes quite challenging as you progress.

The game’s controls are a large part of the experience, and they work quite well, although at first it does take some time to get used to the sensitivity of them. In addition to steering your bike, you can tap the screen to perform a wheelie and experience a boost of speed. Doing so makes controlling your motorcycle temporarily more difficult while accelerating, but simultaneously, it’s a useful for maneuvering out of the way of a vehicle that would otherwise hit you.

The title is visually pleasing and features realistic sound effects. You’ll race down a busy freeway that’s always changing in scenery. When you collide with another vehicle, Jake flies off his bike and tumbles in the air and eventually onto the pavement. The crash physics aren’t bad for an iOS game, although this is no Burnout.

Lane Splitter is a rather simple game and feels like it could do with a couple of extras. For instance, it’d be cool if you could play tunes from your iPod library or choose your character’s appearance and motorcycle style. Instead, there’s just the start screen, a very basic options screen, leader boards and the game itself.

Admittedly, it might feel a little bare, but Lane Splitter is a very fun, arcade-style iOS title. Definitely worth a buck.

Killing Zone Defense Review

Killing Zone Defense Review

By Jennifer Allen on April 1st, 2011
Our Rating: ★★★★½ :: FANTASTIC
iPhone App - Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad

Killing Zone Defense revitalises the Tower Defense genre and is worthy of being considered an equal to Plants vs. Zombies

Developer: Hocobi
Price: $1.99
Version Reviewed: 1.0
Device Reviewed On: iPhone 4

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
Game Controls Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Replay Value Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 4.31 out of 5 stars

On the surface, Killing Zone Defense is just your run of the mill tower defense game, but that’s the beauty of it. It doesn’t try too hard to be quirky or unique, it sticks to just what you could want from such a game and achieves it with style.

Telling the story of Pennsylvanian resident, John and his plight to save what’s left of his town and its people, Killing Zone Defense offers just enough story to intrigue. Gameplay itself will be immediately familiar to fans of Plants vs. Zombies. It’s remarkably similar. Starting with just poor John on his own to the left of the screen, the zombies come at you from the right, slowly but steadily. Fortunately John starts out with a set of throwing knives to fling at the undead horde. There’s also the added advantage that the zombies drop money as they die. Enter the upgrade system you’d expect from a Tower Defense game.

Adding a big dose of originality though, there is a catch with the upgrade system. You also gain experience and level up, which in turn enables you to purchase new weapons such as the humble revolver, the mightier assault rifle or the fearsome ice gun freezing foes in their path. There’s six weapons in all as well as two unique skills which can be unlocked through levelling up. A steady unlock system ensures that you never feel overpowered, keeping the game challenging but not hideously difficult. As you progress, John also has help in the form of other survivors each with their own background story.

They also have their own unique skills ensuring that everyone’s useful in their own way, whether it be through offering money bonuses, health injections or through gun turrets that boost your firepower. It feels refreshing, being able to have so many options in how you want to use your money. You’re not restricted to just upgrading weapons as buying and upgrading gun turrets might be equally as important. It’s down to you to figure out your success. It’s a strategic element that I haven’t seen be implemented quite so well since Plants vs. Zombies. Time management elements emerge when it comes to needing to reload increasingly often. Indeed, this gets a bit frantic when you’ve got a screen full of zombies and five survivors to look out for. If just one of them dies, it’s game over.

With 50 stages in all as well as the survival mode, there’s plenty of value in Killing Zone Defense’s small package, especially for the price. If I was going to nitpick, I’d have liked GameCenter support as well as the OpenFeint support already offered but that’s a minor niggle in an otherwise flawless title.

Embrace The Puzzles of Romance in MewSim: iQuest

Are you a fan of adorable kittens?  Have you happened to try out the previously released game MewSim from developer Dynamic Pixels?  If you were fans of games in that vein and aesthetic, and can take a tug to your heartstrings, it may be worth your while to check out Dynamic Pixels newest creation, MewSim: iQuest.

Touted as a “a moving story of a young, fidgety cat and its adventure to honor the lady love,” players will be working their way through a number of different puzzle and arcade inspired mini-games.  The ultimate goal of the game is to reunite with your better half. Unfortunately, there are numerous obstacles that will prevent you from doing so.  Fortunately these are more diversions of the amusing variety and should more than make up for the free pricetag.

Why is the game free when there are no evidence of ads or microtransactions?  Your guess is as good as mine, but I am certainly not going to look a gift horse, err, kitten, in the mouth.

Circus Pain Review

Circus Pain Review

By Carter Dotson on April 1st, 2011
Our Rating: ★★★½☆ :: FEELS PRETTY GOOD
Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Circus Pain is a physics puzzler that has you launching the masochistic Igor from his cannon into the goal net, while trying to cause as much damage to him as possible.

Developer: Ongoz
Price: $0.99
Version Reviewed: 1.0
Device Reviewed On: iPad 1G, iPod touch 4G

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Game Controls Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Replay Value Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 3.63 out of 5 stars

Physics puzzlers have certainly been angry, but rarely have they been this painful. Circus Pain puts you in control of a cannon launching a circus performer named Igor, who apparently enjoys getting launched out of cannons so much that he’s willing to let himself get tremendously injured for fame and fortune, just to continue his masochistic thrill. You launch Igor through 55 levels full of barriers, bubbles, springs, and even electric fences. Your goal is to get him into the basket, but to also do as much damage to him as you possibly can before then.

This is an interesting take on the physics puzzler genre – especially the aspect of trying to hurt Igor as much as possible, it sometimes gets you trying to think differently about the levels, and how you’re supposed to play them to get the maximum 10 coins out of 10 for doing the most damage possible to Igor in the level. As well, the game is a universal app – something I wish we got to see more from games on iOS. The controls also work well, with firing meters on each side of the screen, so firing never gets in the way of setting your angle. As well, if you like irony, you can make Igor’s voice higher pitched from the pause menu. Does it cause any actual change in gameplay? No. Is it kinda funny? Yes.

The game’s levels have often wildly varying difficulties – even some of the final levels were completed in one attempt. It would have been nice to have some kind of synchronization between versions of the game, especially since OpenFeint offers this kind of functionality. There’s no Game Center support for achievements, either. There are no leaderboards, but this is largely due to the nature of the game not needing leaderboards, as each level has a maximum possible score. Also, on some levels, the cannon fires less powerfully than on others just for the purpose of challenge, without ever indicating in any meaningful way that your cannon is less powerful – you won’t know until you launch.

Sometimes the design of Circus Pain is confusing, and it lacks some replay value at the moment, but this is a reasonably entertaining, if not brief foray into the physics puzzler genre. Go out there and bring the pain, Igor can take it!

April Fools – We’re Back to Normal

In what must have been the least convincing April Fool’s joke ever, we switched our site to 148Farts for a few hours early today. If you missed it, screenshots are below.

We pulled a quick joke this morning and announced we were changing the direction of the site into 148Farts. Changing the site design, logo, and even reviewing 6 fart apps and changing our familiar 5 star ratings to 5 fart clouds. We even created a Top 148 Fart Apps page. But now, we’re back to normal. Though we’ll keep the Top 148 Fart Apps list up, just for a little fun.

We had to do something for April Fools Day, and we went low brow, pulled a fart joke. We hope you enjoyed it, or at least indulged us, while it lasted. Ah, the smell of a good joke (damn, there we go again).

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP has been long-hyped as a game, having been in development since December 2009 and hotly anticipated by the iOS gaming community ever since. Of course, a lot of this has been thanks to the impressive-looking pixel art by Superbrothers, along with a soundtrack by musician Jim Guthrie, all blended into a gaming experience, and the latter part of that phrase is the important part – this is an experience moreso than it is a game.

The story of Sword & Sworcery is that you are a Scythian warrior, who is out to acquire a book called the Megatome, and is set to use it to destroy an evil force known as the Gogolithic Mass. I won’t go into it much more than that, for fear of spoiling you, as discovering the strange, wondrous, and occasionally ludicrous elements of the game is part of the experience – and getting to see it all yourself for the first time as you play is what makes it shine the brightest. The game is largely a point-and-click adventure, where you explore the world to solve puzzles to help you advance in the story. You also will fight battles, where you will have to block and evade enemy attacks to attack your enemies with your sword when you get the chance.

The graphics are wonderful, largely composed of tremendously detailed and gorgeous pixel art. This game absolutely pops on the iPad screen, and allows you to get immersed into the experience – I fear that the iPhone/iPod touch version will suffer a bit from being on a smaller screen. The music from Jim Guthrie is absolutely astounding; every track just does a fantastic job at connecting you to the mood of the game, whether it be weird or haunting or just to pump you up for your upcoming battle. I don’t know if anyone’s going to come up with a better battle theme song than Sword & Sworcery’s theme any time soon. If you don’t wear good headphones while playing, you should be thrown in prison. I’m that serious. The dialogue is also of particular note, as the game isn’t afraid to be silly, but it doesn’t betray the emotional core of the game either.

Sword and Sworcery sometimes suffers as an actual game, though. The controls sometimes make movement tricky – the naviagation is generally pretty smart, but double I’ve often double tapped near an exit and wound up just in front of it, for example. The puzzles are largely solved through trial and error, although there is often a pattern to them – basically, if you get to a point where something should happen, enter Sworcery mode, and start tapping on objects until things happen. Patterns will eventually reveal themselves, and the logic of the puzzles becomes apparent only afterwards, sometimes. The combat setups can get repetitive due to the limited number of enemies in the game – the very first boss fight is probably the hardest as you don’t know what you’re doing. Also, I get what was intended with the rotating the iPad from landscape to portrait, which is used to pull out your sword, read the Megatome, and fight in battles. This feels like something that should have been left in the iPhone version, and the iPad version left in landscape the whole time.

But, despite the cons I mention with the actual gameplay, the experience is just so overwhelmingly great, that it is absolutely worth playing, worth seeing and experiencing for yourself. It being a game is often its great drawback, as when you get reminded that you’re playing a game is when the experience suffers the most. But when that all melts away and you can just let the art and music wash over you, you can truly experience something unlike anything else you’ve ever played.

Bamboozle! Takes Trivia to Version 2.0

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 10:03 AM PDT

In case I have never before admitted it within the hallowed pages of 148Apps, I am a trivia and pop-culture nut.  Anything that can test my knowledge of all things that don’t matter is right in my wheelhouse.  That is why I was thrilled to hear about the newest update to the puzzle game Bamboozle, helping it make the jump into version 2.0.

This isn’t just a simple update though folks because as part of the big changes the app will now be available for absolutely free.  On top of the instant benefit of a price drop, the game has now implemented a retro-tastic new visual style that sets it out from the crowd.  Plus, for those of you that are keen on stroking your ego, there are even international leaderboards that show how you rank against the rest of the world.  Also, players will now have the option of purchasing extra expansions to the game at a minor monetary cost, so that way the game will never end.

If you haven’t checked it out already, now is the time!  Let us know if you like it in the comments.

In the high-stakes world of fart-sims, one cannot be too careful. Many fart sim apps only exist to take your money and leave you, sadly deflated, with the knowledge that you’ve been taken for money that would, in fact, have been better spent on a latte, or the morning paper.

Luckily for all of us fart sim junkies, Fart!! steps into this breach of false alarms and silent but deadly price hikes with a FREE (yes, all caps, that’s how it’s done) fart sim app. Nothing will get your juices flowing like Fart!! with tons of extra sim joy and exclamation points.

Fart!! controls like a dream. In an iOS genre full of crass pictures and even worse control mechanisms, the fart sim extraordinaire that is Fart!! will leave you with only one button to press. This is minimalism at its best, fulfilling the hopes and dreams of faux flatulence lovers the world over.

In addition to this refined user interface, Fart!! continues to impress with random fart generation each press of The Button (caps included, no extra cost). Not only do you get this stunning feature, but the “lift your leg” feature takes gyroscope interaction interface to a whole new level. Simply launch the Fart!! app, slide your iphone sensuously into your front pocket, then lift your leg. Instant fart simulation! With leg power! It’s hard to imagine a world WITHOUT this feature.

Fart!! also includes a Fart Meter and Fart Points. My only niggling issue here is the lack of Game Center integration, as the fart-sim enthusiast in all of us is surely crying out for attention on Game Center leader boards. Other than this tiny little poof of negativity, I must recommend this FREE app to all my friends and neighbors, since digital, randomly generated farts are a win in my book.

Exclusive: FartZam! HD Changes Fart Apps and Medical Diagnoses Forever

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 08:04 AM PDT

April Fools! This post is part of our 2011 April Fools Joke.

The developers behind upcoming app, FartZam! HD have shared an exclusive peek at their revolutionary new Medical app. They explain the app to be “like Shazam for music, only for diet and health.”

Simply hold your iPhone near your hindquarters, and let loose any gaseous air that might be lingering in your colon. Yes, this is a Fart App with participation. FartZam HD! will “smell” your fart, and tell you what you should and should not be eating. Imagine a near future where you can fart into your iPhone and learn, “YOU NEED MORE FIBER.” Or, perhaps, “LACTOSE INTOLERANT.” Head off potential illness with “SCHEDULE A PROCTOLOGY EXAM.”

In our highly connected world, any iOS app worth it’s weight in farts will share your health status with social media. FartZam! HD is no different. Send the facts of your fecal environmental impact to your Twitter followers, Facebook friends, and even Last.fm user lists. Create a playlist to share on Grooveshark of your favorite fart moments, along with their associated medical diagnosis, like, “LESS ASPARAGUS, MORE LETTUCE.”

FartZam will be available, “sometime this month,” according to the developers, who are ready to release this cloud-based app on the iTunes App Store and rake in the money.

If you buy just one fart app this week, this is the one for you. Fart Machine Extreme includes all of the farting excellence you’d find in nine different fart apps — all in one.

We don’t have enough space to write about all of the features and options of this app. Nor can we touch on all of the possible ways you could use it. But let’s start with a few of them.

First up, let’s take a quick look at Fart Blower. With this you can amaze your friends with the amazing power of the fart. Hold the speaker from your iPhone up to a candle and hit the button and watch as the fart from the iPhone makes the flame flickr. Luckily virtual farts are not flammable.

My favorite has to be the fart piano mode. A great virtual piano allows you to explore your inner virtuoso in a full octave of farts. You have to wonder, if Mozart had access to something like this, what would he have created?

Other modes include: Fart Sound board with 30 amazing fart sounds, Fart Cushion, Fart Grenade, Pull My Finder in stunning 3D, Stinky Ass Detector, and a hilarious 3D elephant fart mode. Great fun, and educational.

See the video below for a quick overview of one of the nine modes of this app. Sorry it’s in German, but that somehow seems more appropriate.

There are some downsides to this app though. For one, there’s now iPad version. I think we can all agree that the iPad really needs this app. It’s what Apple created the iPad for.

Fart Boxin’ gives you 36 different fart sounds to play with a boombox interface.

When I first heard of Fart Boxin’, I thought it would be some kind of boxing game, with farts. That would be exciting! Why hasn’t that game been made yet? Instead, Fart Boxin’ gives you 4 pages of 9 farts each to blast, each in the shape of a boombox. Each one blasts out a different fart sound. Sadly, this app feels a bit half-baked – the boombox concept isn’t taken to its logical conclusion.

There’s no indicator as to what fart sound is which with the boomboxes, and there’s no continuous sound playback. I’d love to be able to set up a loop of farts, and walk around blasting some farts with turbo bass enabled, especially if I could do this with my iPad. Sadly, it doesn’t support the iPad yet, so I’d just look like a fool walking around with an iPhone fart boombox app on my iPad! While there’s a good selection of fart sounds here, I sadly find it hard to recommend Fart Boxin’ when it could live far more up to its potential.

If you want a highly polished, ready-for-action fart app, this one isn’t it. While we love a good fart-flavored boombox app, we suggest the developers make us a boxing game instead. With farts.

I never thought that a simple fart application could be raised in status to a musical instrument. Fart Studio does just that, and with flair.

Fart Studio gives you a virtual plethora of sounds to choose from via a selection list. Once you have chosen you sound you and reproduce by dragging on the virtual sound pad. Drag higher to to increase the volume. Lower for quieter. To the left for a deeper sounds, a rumbler. And to the right for a higher pitch, a squeaker. Or any where on the sound bad to combine the attributes.

For those of you that want to use this in other ways, Fart Studio also includes a remote feature — so that you can control the sounds from a second device and have them play on the first. Also included is a stealth mode where the screen is turned off, but you can still control the sound.

And Fart Studio is also a Universal App. So you have enjoy the same app on both your mobile and iPad devices without having to purchase a second app. Fantastic.

There’s already interesting rumors surrounding this new musical instrument app. Apparently the Gorillaz are interesting in using it on their next iOS app created release. Or who knows, maybe Cee Lo Green’s next song will be “Fart You” — it could happen.

Glow Fart Button proves that farting need not be complex. You have a button with a farting man on it that glows yellow. You press the button, and a fart sound plays. There are a wide variety of fart sounds, that randomly play. Sadly, you cannot select which fart sound plays when you press the button, but this is potentially a very realistic feature, as you never quite know just what kind of fart sound you’re going to get when you need to let one rip. Plus, my farts don’t usually glow…usually. For extra fun, rapidly press the fart button repeatedly, and you’re now an electronic music superstar, with farts! Sadly, the app comes with not one, but two banner ads! What has happened to our society where even farting is trying to sell me something! For shame, Glow Fart Button is also free, for the user who likes to fart, but is on a budget. Glow Fart Button might not be the most technologically advanced fart app, but for those who just want let their phone let one rip, this app is potentially invaluable.

iFart Mobile is one of the most technically advanced fart apps on the App Store, with a wide variety of farts, in-app purchases for more farts, social networking features, and push notification farts!

Farting may be as old as time itself, but this is the 21st century; I expect my farts to be digital and high-resolution! iFart Mobile is clearly the Rolls Royce of fart apps for your advanced devices, featuring 30 fart sounds, the ability to buy new farts AND record my own farts, along with Retina Display support. iFart Mobile also comes with universal app support, something that has been long missing from other fart apps. I have longed for the day when my iPad could fart at full 1024×768 resolution, and now it can. As well, I like that I can use push notifications to get farts even when I’m not using the app – I have often found myself desiring to make my iPod fart when I am not near. And, you can email farts to friends via email, so anyone can get into the farting fun! Sadly, the Record-A-Fart feature appears to only support one fart recording, a tragic omission for me and my creative fart ideas. Despite this drawback, this is truly a fine fart app for the discerning fart customer.
