Canadian Buyers to Get iPad 2 as Early as 10 AM on Friday

Posted: 21 Mar 2011 09:41 PM PDT

While the iPad 2 is supposed to launch in 25 countries across the world on Friday, at 5 PM local time, it would appear that Canadian Buyers will be allowed to buy the iPad 2 as early as 10 AM.

According to a report from 9to5mac, Canadian Best Buy stores will start selling the device earlier than expected, based on an internal Best Buy ticket system.

Was confirmed by my store manager. We will be selling them at 10am Friday when we open. It's first come first serve and there WILL be a line up. If we are doing the same thing as last year we will be handing out a piece of paper which you will fill out telling us which ipad you want, size, color ect.. (sic)If it's anything like the US release date we will not be able to sell them until 5PM EST. I would wait until ~24th for more information on price and availability.

In other words, your mileage may vary, and some stores might agree to sell the device as early as 10 AM, while others will force you to wait until 5 PM.

Canada may get the iPad earlier than expected, but it won’t be the first country to actually start selling the iPad on Friday, as technically, New Zealand will be the first country to get the iPad, after the United States.

Other countries on the launch list include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Given the current iPad 2 shortages, if you do not want to come back home empty handed, you might want to start waiting in line in front of your local Apple retailer as early as possible on Friday.

TallyTots – iPad App Review

Posted: 21 Mar 2011 08:53 PM PDT

Young children really benefit from interactive and engaging content when learning, and Apple’s App Store is full of great educational iPad apps that fit this description.  SpinLight Studio’s TallyTots is one such app and it makes learning to count great fun for little ones.

Counting will become a fun activity for kids with this cute interactive app.  TallyTots teaches children to count with different activities for them to enjoy and they’ll have a great time racing cars, watering plants, examining cupcakes and much more on their counting journey from one to twenty.

Each time youngsters select a number, they’ll see and hear counting.  With audio and visual cues reinforcing the learning process, kids will be counting in no time.  TallyTots begins with number cards from one to twenty on the screen.  Select your first number and let the counting begin.  Fun activities appear with each number selected allowing kids to count, play and learn.  From that point on, smaller cards span the top and bottom of the screen making the selection of the next number as easy as 1, 2, 3.  Just tap and hold your finger on the number you wish to see, wait for “Go” and that number’s activities appear.

TallyTots is easy enough for kids to use on their own and interesting enough to enjoy with Mom and Dad.  If you have kids at home playing with your iPad or iPad 2, they will be taping and swiping their way through this game in no time.  I enjoyed playing with the activities for each number and kids will too.

Currently featured in the App Store’s New and Noteworthy section, TallyTots has received good reviews, along with a 4 star rating.  It’s available now for $1.99.

What I liked: Bright colors, nice graphics and fun interactive features.

What I didn’t like: It would be nice to have the option to automatically move on to the next number once you’ve completed the current number’s task.

To buy or not to buy: Yes, if you have young children at home who are learning to count, TallyTots is not only a great teaching tool, but a fun, interactive way to learn.

  • App Name: TallyTots
  • Version: 1.0
  • Category: Education
  • Developer: SpinLight Studio
  • Price: $1.99

iOS 4.3.1 for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch Out Soon

Posted: 21 Mar 2011 10:53 AM PDT

According to Boy Genius Report, Apple is about to roll-out a new version of iOS within the next two weeks, dubbed iOS 4.3.1. The update should not bring any new functionality, and is instead focused on fixing bugs left in iOS 4.3, released a almost two weeks ago.

The changes brought by the update are expected to be as follows:

  • Baseband updates for the 3GS and iPad (original)
  • Fixed memory hang that results in memory corruption when reading large files from USIM filesystem
  • Fixed problem with NTLM authentication in apps and on websites
  • Fixed issue with the Springboard and 3rd party apps not recognizing the gyroscope on the iPad 2
  • Fixed iPad 2 jailbreak vulnerability

Bad news for the folks who were planning to jailbreak their iPads, as the update will most likely render most jailbreaks unusable.
