Then you may want to pay attention: HTC and Best Buy just announced that the WiFi-only version of the Flyer will be sold exclusively at all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile locations, as well as bestbuy.com, when it launches later this spring. Sprint plans to fight AT&T's acquisition of T-Mobile Posted: Although the buyout of T-Mobile by AT&T still has to go through the regulatory approval process before it's actually a done deal, there are still a lot of people concerned with what effect the acquisition will have on the industry, including Sprint. Speaking today at CTIA, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said that the company plans to voice its concerns about an ATT/T-Mobile merger to Congress. Hesse explained that if the deal is completed, it could "stifle innovation" and would give AT&T-Mobile... |
T-Mobile G2x supports AT&T's 3G/4G bands? Posted: When T-Mobile announced the G2x earlier this morning, they touted its 4-inch 800x480 display, Tegra 2 core, and HSPA+ speeds. After examining the device on T-Mo's site, though, there's one feature that Magenta failed to mention that may be one of the most exciting to potential customers. The G2x is listed as supporting both T-Mobile's AWS/2100 bands for 3G/4G, but the page also lists the 850/1900 bands that AT&T uses for its HSPA+ network. This has lead many to speculate that T-Mo is... |
Posted: The EVO line continues! Aaron gets some hands-on time with the HTC EVO 3D , a new device announced at CTIA 2011 in Orlando. It's rocking a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 4.3-inch stereoscopic display (though it's long and narrow), dual 5-megapixel cameras for 3D video capture, front-facing shooter, and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with the newest version of HTC Sense. It's coming this summer and is an absolutely awesome phone with a killer specifications list,... |
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Hands-On Posted: Aaron takes a first look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 , which was announced today at CTIA 2011 in Orlando. Featuring a 1 GHz dual-core applications processor, 8.9-inch display (in case that wasn't obvious), Android 3.0 with TouchWiz, and the ability to play 1080p videos, it'll be available in the summer and will start at $469.99. Will it hold a candle to the iPad 2 , a device that has a similar screen size and form factor? |
Windows Phone 7's NoDo update begins rolling out to eager users Posted: After some delays and pre-update problems , Microsoft began rolling out Windows Phone 7's NoDo update today. According to WinRumors , owners of unbranded WP7 devices are now able to connect to the Zune software and install "Windows Phone Update – March 2011," which is build number 7390. It doesn't sound like T-Mobile and AT&T-branded handsets are getting NoDo just yet, but we'll let you know when they do. The full NoDo change log from Microsoft is available below to keep you... |

Live from Sprint's CTIA event! Posted: The AT&T and T-Mobile deal may be dominating the headlines, but Sprint is getting cozy with Google, and my guess is we'll see that in more detail at today's Sprint event. Per the rumors, the nation's third largest wireless carrier is expected to announce a few Android devices in addition to the already announced Google Nexus S 4G. Expect to see a tablet or two, and the HTC EVO 3D. Whatever happens, I'll be here covering it live, so be sure to tune in! |
Why TouchWiz UX might not be a bad thing for Samsung's Tabs Posted: The original Galaxy Tab was the first high-end Android tablet to make it to shelves. At the time, it was running the latest version of Android, version 2.2. Google had publicly announced that Froyo was not optimized for tablets and many manufacturers decided to hold off until Honeycomb arrived. Samsung, however, decided to go ahead release the Tab and also to skin it with a modified version of their somewhat popular TouchWiz UI. Back when I had a Tab, I rather enjoyed TouchWiz... |
Evidence of Samsung 4G LTE becoming Samsung DROID Charge emerges? Posted: Yesterday we heard a rumor that the Samsung 4G LTE /SCH-i510/Droid Stealth could become the "DROID Charge" when it arrives, which may happen on April 7th. Now that new name looks like a lock, as the folks at Engadget have been given the image you see above by a "trusted source." As can be seen in the photo, the Samsung DROID Charge is indeed identified as the SCH-i510, seemingly confirming the news we heard last night. While it's unfortunate that there isn't any information contained... |

Rumor: iPhone 5 to gain 4-inch screen and metal back, going into full production in Q3 Posted: Apple may not be present at CTIA, but that doesn't mean that we'll go the entire show without hearing at least one iPhone 5 rumor. According to China Times , the next-gen iPhone is already in test production and features a 4-inch touchscreen , scratch-resistant metal backside that is said to improve reception, and perhaps even an NFC chip. The publication claims that full production of the iPhone 5 will begin in the third quarter of this year. Most of these specs are ones we've heard... |
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and revised Galaxy Tab 10.1 made official [UPDATED] Posted: Right on schedule, Samsung has announced the new Galaxy Tab 8.9 at its CTIA event. The Tab 8.9 isn't alone, though, as Sammy also revealed a revised Galaxy Tab 10.1. In the past, we heard one Samsung exec mention that Apple had made the iPad 2 "very thin," and it appears that that caused Sammy to strive to make their own tablets extremely svelte: both the 8.9 and 10.1 measure in at .86 mm thick, while the iPad 2 is .88 mm thick. Both of the new Tabs will sport 1280x800 displays, dual-core 1GHz... |
Verizon expanding LTE coverage to 59 more markets in 2011 Posted: It's been a while since we heard any news on Verizon expanding its new LTE network, but today the carrier announced 59 new markets that will be lit up with its 4G by the end of 2011. Combined with all of the other areas that either are already covered by LTE or will be soon, this means that Big Red will have 147 cities under the blanket of their 4G coverage by the end of this year. There's no word on exactly when they'll be flipping the switches on each of these markets, but we expect to hear... |

Apple iPad 2 vs. Motorola XOOM Dogfight Pt. 1 Posted: Tablets tablets everywhere! Aaron throws the Apple iPad 2 and the Motorola XOOM - the respective champions in their arenas - into the ring for a tablet dogfight. The Apple iPad 2 offers Apple's A5 dual-core processor, 9.7-inch display, a front and rear-facing camera, and is packed in a body that's 1.33 pounds. On the other hand, you have the Motorola XOOM, the first tablet to premiere with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). It offers a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core... |
Verizon not interested in acquiring Sprint, says CEO Posted: In the wake of AT&T announcing that they plan to acquire T-Mobile, some have speculated that Verizon could be planning to counter the move by buying Sprint at some point in the future. Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead has quieted the rumors, though, simply saying, "We aren't interested in Sprint. We don't need them." Mead also said that he had no plans to oppose the AT&T-Mobile deal. Sprint may be pretty far behind AT&T-Mobile and Verizon in terms of subscriber numbers, but... |
BlackBerry PlayBook set to arrive on April 19th for $499.99 Posted: RIM may have revealed the BlackBerry PlayBook back in September of last year, but up until now they've remained quiet on the launch and pricing information on the device. T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, G-Slate pricing revealed Posted: Yesterday T-Mobile finally made its Tegra 2-powered G2x nice and official, but if that handset doesn't get you excited for one reason or another, we've got more information on two other new T-Mo devices that may get you excited. First up, the Samsung Sidekick 4G has finally been priced at $99.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract, which is quite a bit lower than most of us expected. Of course, it's worth noting that to get access to that price tag, you'll also have to sign up for... |
HTC EVO 3D, EVO View 4G, Pyramid all see their photos leak out Posted: Ready for a trio of leaked HTC Android device photos? Always, right? Good. First up, we have the EVO 3D and EVO View 4G for Sprint, both of which appeared on pre-registration pages on Sprint's website today. There's not much new info to gain from the images besides the fact that the EVO View 4G will be black rather than silver like the Flyer , but considering that this is the first time that we're actually getting a peek at these two products, I'd say that that's ok. The other device... |
