Microsoft sues Barnes & Noble for allegedly infringing patents with Nook Color Posted: Earlier, we learned that Apple was suing Amazon over the term "App Store," and now the lawsuit locomotive is continuing with a tiff between Microsoft and Barnes & Noble. Microsoft is suing B&N, Foxconn, and Inventec over alleged patent infringement involving the Nook Color. The patents in question involve tabbed navigation like in a web browser, text selection and annotation, and displaying text on a website before the background image so that users can begin reading content right away. This...

Apple sues Amazon over alleged trademark infringement Posted: Earlier this year, Microsoft filed an opposition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office in an attempt to deny Apple the trademark to the term "App Store" because they claimed that it was too generic. That trademark is in the news once again, but now Apple is the one doing the fighting. According to Bloomberg, Apple filed suit against Amazon on March 18th, accusing them of trademark infringement unfair competition because of their use of the term "Appstore" in connection with their Android...
Nokia Astound (T-Mobile) Gallery Posted: Sure, the talk of the town is that AT&T and T-Mobile will be getting friendly in the next few months (pending FCC approval, of course), but that doesn't stop the nation's fourth largest wireless carrier from launching new devices. In a sign that it's business as usual until the ink is on the paper, Nokia and T-Mobile announced the Astound at a press event this evening at CTIA 2011 in Orlando. Americans may love their brand names, but the proof is in the pudding, and under...
Nokia Astound set to hit T-Mobile on April 6th for $79.99 Posted: If you've been following the site lately, you've no doubt seen leaks proclaiming that Nokia and T-Mobile will soon be teaming up to launch the Astound, a Symbian^3-powered smartphone, next month. Well today Nokia made the little handset official, announcing that the Astound will be launching on T-Mo on April 6th for $79.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract. As a quick refresher, the specs for the Astound include a 3.5-inch 640x360 AMOLED display, 8 megapixel camera with dual LED...
Will Samsung's track record with Android updates affect the adoption of the Droid Stealth? Posted: Back at CES, we were introduced to several phones capable of accessing Verizon's LTE network that will be heading to shelves during the first half of this year. The ThunderBolt was the first to make it to the market and it looks like the unnamed Samsung LTE device from CES might be the next. Now referred to as the Droid Stealth or Charge, it comes with a decent list of specifications: a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel...
BlackBerry PlayBook live on Sprint's site, still coming this summer Posted: During CES, RIM let us know that they planned to launch the BlackBerry PlayBook complete with WiMAX capabilities some time this summer. Today Sprint has chimed in to remind us all that yes, the WiMAX PlayBook is still alive and yes, it's still coming sometime this summer. There's not much new information to be found within, but if you need to know the second that the device is available, you can give up your email address to receive updates. Of course, you could also continue to read PhoneDog,...
Rumor: Samsung 4G LTE could become Droid Stealth, could launch April 7th [UPDATED] Posted: Now that the HTC ThunderBolt is finally here, that means we can begin worrying about Verizon's other LTE handsets and when they'll begin arriving, too. Thanks to a new leak sent over to Android Central, it looks like Samsung's 4G LTE, aka SCH-i510, aka Stealth, aka DROID Stealth will be the next 4G smartphone to hit Big Red's airwaves. As you can see above, Costco is planning to launch the device, which they're calling the "Samsung 4G Droid Stealth," on April 7th, with pre-orders (and live...
HTC Freestyle vs. Pantech Laser Dogfight Posted: The HTC Freestyle and the Pantech Laser are the two best featurephones from AT&T. The Freestyle features HTC's Sense UI, making it look a lot like a smartphone, and the Laser is super-thin but still manages to pack a full physical keyboard and it has an AMOLED display. Both phones are great, but which one is better? For quite some time the Laser reigned as number on PhoneDog's Top Messaging Phones list for AT&T. Now that the Freestyle is in town, it has dethroned the Laser and...
HTC EVO 3D, EVO View 4G specs leak ahead of Sprint's CTIA event Posted: There's been a lot of hype surrounding Sprint's CTIA offerings , including the HTC EVO 3D and EVO View 4G, and now that the convention is finally here, we can finally confirm those two devices as well as some of their specs. The EVO fun doesn't end there,...
Why AT&T's proposed purchase of T-Mobile USA is a good thing Posted: It hasn’t been a secret that T-Mobile USA has been on the chopping block for quite some time now. Deutsche Telekom has been involved with rumors of selling or otherwise relieving some of the stress from the US-based network for quite some time, and just recently we’ve even heard that Sprint would be the wireless carrier of choice to take T-Mobile USA under its wing. But, in a left-turn that came out of nowhere, AT&T and Deutsche Telekom announced that they had agreed to a...
Will a pure Google experience bring more fragmentation? Posted: Earlier today , Sprint and Google made the Nexus S 4G an official device . The new handset isn’t all that different from the original Nexus S that launched late last year, but the differences between the handsets are certainly attention grabbers. The WiMAX-capable handset, with its 4G branding, is expected to launch on Sprint’s network sometime in the spring, but as of right now no exact dates are given. And with that integrated Google Voice support coming to the handset...
| Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and its custom UX confirmed at CTIA Posted: Thanks to a handful of teasers from Samsung, we've been anticipating an 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab to debut at CTIA this week, and now we've got confirmation that the tablet is indeed real. As you can see in these photos, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 will feature an 8.9-inch 1280x800 display, dual-core 1GHz CPU, come in at 8.6mm thick, and weigh a total of 470 grams. | T-Mobile G2x spotted inside the confines of CTIA Posted: Earlier this month, we learned that the LG Optimus 2X would be coming to T-Mobile under the name "G2x," and now the name has been confirmed at CTIA. As you can see above, the G2x is the star of at least one display at the big convention, confirmed the device's name as well as the fact that it'll make its U.S. debut at CTIA. Obviously the G2x still hasn't been made official by T-Mobile or LG, so there's no word just yet on when it'll arrive, but we've heard that it could be coming as... |
HTC Freestyle Review by Sydney Posted: It's not every day that a featurephone is released by a company that typically only makes smartphones and features a UI that's only been seen on those smartphones. The Freestyle is unique and in a good way. It's made by HTC , one of the leaders in the smartphone market, and runs HTC's Sense UI, a popular and much-loved user interface. I have to admit, I was excited about this one, but I still had my reservations. Is it a dumb smartphone or a smart 'dumbphone'? The latter scenario would...
HTC to launch the Pyramid in June, working on a myTouch 4G slider as well? Posted: Over the weekend, we were finally treated to a photo of the HTC Pyramid showing off its rear end in the wild. Today the Pyramid leaks continue, courtesy of our friends at TmoNews. They've just been handed some spec and possible release info on the device from a "solid source," so you'll want to pay attention. You can find the purported list of improvements below: Baseband updates for the 3GS and iPad (original) Fixed memory hang that results in memory corruption when reading large files from USIM filesystem Fixed problem...
AT&T confirms that it plans to use T-Mobile's AWS spectrum for LTE Posted: As a part of AT&T 's acquisition of T-Mobile , the carrier announced that they'd be able to deploy LTE to an additional 46.5 million users. ATT revealed today that in order to aid in their expanded LTE roll out, they'll be supplementing their 700MHz LTE coverage by using T-Mo's 1700MHz AWS spectrum to also distribute LTE. ATT has said that when it repurposes T-Mo's 3G towers to push out a 4G signal instead, owners of T-Mobile 3G devices won't be getting a 3G signal anymore. That...
HTC HD7S, LG Thrill 4G made official by AT&T Posted: Following the announcement yesterday that they'd be acquiring T-Mobile, AT&T this morning announced that they'll be offering two new high-profile smartphones in the near future. First up is the HTC HD7S, which will basically be the HD7 that has only been available on T-Mobile up until now, but with compatibility with AT&T's network. Additionally, ATT's model will come packed with both a Super LCD display and Windows Phone 7's NoDo update preinstalled, giving users the ability to cut and paste...
AT&T will be penalized if deal with T-Mobile doesn't get done Posted: In an announcement that caught many of us off-guard, AT&T said yesterday that they plan to acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion. The deal is expected to close in about a year, pending approval by the appropriate government entities, but what if the acquisition falls through? AT&T has explained that if that happens, they'll owe T-Mobile $3 billion and will also need to transfer some of their AWS spectrum licenses that aren't "critical" to their initial LTE roll out. Additionally, ATT and T-Mobile...
Sprint announces Google Voice integration for all its devices Posted: Sprint owners already made a few Google fans happy today with their announcement of the Nexus S 4G, but they followed that up with another biggie: integrated Google Voice for its customers. Basically, Sprint customers will be able to use their regular Sprint phone number with Google Voice, without any of the hassles associated with the usual porting process. That means you can have your Sprint number ring your home, office, or other number, and you also get access to goodies like voicemail...
Nexus S 4G for Sprint made official, set to launch this spring Posted: We expected Sprint to announce the Nexus S 4G at its CTIA event, but it appears that they just couldn't wait to share the good news. What you're looking at is basically the same ol' Nexus S that we've come to know and love, but with compatibility with Sprint's WiMAX network. That means you're getting a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1GHz processor, a 5 megapixel camera, front-facing VGA cam, and Android 2.3 preloaded. Expect the Nexus S 4G to hit Sprint sometime "this spring" for $199.99 with the...

It comes with a 4.3-inch Super LCD display, a loud Dolby Surround Sound speaker, a kickstand for hands-free viewing of media, and... |
