| Now’s the Time to Consider an AppleCare Extended iPad Warranty Posted: 02 Apr 2011 09:23 PM PDT
The iPad AppleCare Protection Plan is Apple's extended warranty program and lengthens your warranty, for both parts and labor, from the standard one year to two years of coverage from the date you purchased your iPad. AppleCare also extends your telephone support to a total of two years of coverage. AppleCare not only covers the iPad but also components like the USB charger, battery and software. AppleCare’s other big benefit is its coverage of related Apple hardware and software. If you own a Time Capsule, AirPort WiFi router or even Apple software, such as Apple’s iWork Suite you get the same two full years of extended telephone and in-store support.
So is the AppleCare plan a good investment? As a mobile device, the iPad will see more bumps and bruises than your average consumer electronics device. If you’re worried about how well your iPad will hold up over the next year or if you like the comfort of knowing your iPad, related Apple hardware and software are well protected, AppleCare is a good investment to consider. AppleCare for the iPad costs $79 dollars and can only be purchased while your iPad is still covered under Apple’s standard one-year warranty. Depending on when you purchased your iPad, the end of your warranty period may be getting close so check it out before you’re too late. » Related posts:

| Cablevision Releases Optimum iPad App – Enjoy 300 TV channels Posted: 02 Apr 2011 04:17 PM PDT Ignoring the situation between Time Warner and content providers like Fox and Scripps, Cablevision has just released its Optimum iPad application free of charge. The cable company’s iPad TV app takes a much more aggressive approach compared to its rival Time Warner. Cablevision is giving access to up to 300 live channels via its new application. Yesterday, we wrote an article about how certain major content owners view the iPad as an unacceptable way to deliver their TV channels. That debate has resulted in cease-and-desist letters sent to Time Warner demanding the removal of certain channels from their iPad TV app. We maintain our views about how the content industry will evolve forcing all ecosystem players to become more innovative about exploring new business models and distribution methods. Cablevision’s iPad app is a good example of that. Service providers are certainly exploring new ways to engage with consumers like you and I, by giving us the freedom to consume content we’ve already paid for. With Cablevision’s iPad application, you can now view your iO TV channels live, control your DVR and access an enhanced Guide display from your WiFi-enabled iPad. The application basically provides another screen for you to use in your home. The Optimum iPad app brings some nice features. For example, besides allowing you to control DVR scheduling, the enhanced Guide allows you to search for programs based on filters, which allows you to limit your search results to things like HD-only content. You can also browse and view free On Demand content from your iO Active Rentals. In addition, you can gain quick access to "What's On Now", or use the in-app keypad to tune directly to the channel you want. Cablevision certainly made an aggressive move with their application. They’re giving you access to up to 300 live TV channels depending on your cable package. You can also gain access to up to 2,000 free and subscription on-demand videos. You can find Cablevision’s requirements on their Optimum website. Some of the basic requirements require you to have a subscription to iO TV with at least one digital cable box or CableCARD, and an Optimum authorized modem connected to a secured wireless B (or above) router. » Related posts:

| Rovio Sells 10 Million Copies of Angry Birds Rio in 10 Days Posted: 02 Apr 2011 09:10 AM PDT Whether you like the game, or hate it, it’s hard not to be impressed by Angry Birds’ popularity: the latest sequel of the franchise, Angry Birds Rio, was downloaded a whopping 10 million times in just 10 days. Rovio, the development shop behind the app, broke the news yesterday via a somewhat cryptic tweet, “10 in 10.”
The app was simultaneously released on iPhone, iPad, and Android. While Rovio didn't offer any details about the breakdown between platforms, it is safe to assume that the app generated several millions of dollars in sales in a matter of days. Angry Birds Rio is the result of the collaboration between Rovio and 20th Century Fox. In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to Rio, Brazil, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to save Blu and Jewel, the main characters of the upcoming movie ‘Rio’. Angry Birds Rio is by far the best game of the franchise, and this time around, things have been shaken up a bit, as the pigs are gone, and instead, the goal of the game is to smash cages to free captured birds. The game is available on the App Store for $2.99 (iPad) and $0.99 (iPhone). » Related posts:
