| Pirate Subs!!! for iPad – Game Review Posted: 17 Apr 2011 07:43 PM PDT
In the first of the five ways to destroy pirates, "Classic Mode", the subs start out slow and start swarming sooner than you can blink. There are no levels or stages, but the subs keep coming faster and in larger numbers so be careful not to let three get the better of you, otherwise it’s game over! You also have to watch out for the endangered wildlife passing by that are marked with a big red X (hint: don't nuke them), as those will also cost you one of your three valuable lives. The always present time trial mode is number two on the list, giving you just one minute to sink as many subs as you can. Big combos add time onto your clock so be careful not to demolish them one at a time, as tempting as that may be. "Expert mode" is for the experienced sub hunters only, but if you're up for a challenge then destroy away. "Zen mode" is a slight variant on "Classic mode" there's just no chance for you to accidentally blow up any animals. Probably the most fun of the variants is the final choice, "Cheat mode". Here you have the choice of altering the rules of the game to your liking, although your score isn't kept because let's face it, you're cheating. That doesn't mean you can't have fun though, because in this option you can turn on invincibility, mini-subs only, bears, uber blasts, and even control the gravity. This final option makes the subs stay in the air far longer than usual, allowing for huge combos. After you're done playing in any of the fun-filled modes, you have the options of Tweeting, texting, emailing or Facebook-ing your score to everyone you know. What I liked:The ability to quickly start and finish a game is always a plus. Also, the cheat mode is fun for those times when you just feel like blowing up some serious series of subs! What I didn’t like: The multiplayer mode didn't really seem to work that often and when it did it was very slow, even over Wi-Fi. To buy or not to buy:For only $0.99, this game is a must have. It is entertaining, simple, and fun enough for everyone to enjoy.

| Square Payment Readers Selling On Apple Online and Retail Stores Posted: 17 Apr 2011 08:39 AM PDT Remember Square? It’s the card reader with a free companion app that accepts credit cards on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch with no contract, monthly fees or merchant account required. The company has had success handling mobile payments over the last year, and now it has received a major boost, after Apple agreed to sell the credit card reader system via Apple's online store and in-store retail locations as well. According to TechCrunch, Apple will start selling Square’s credit card reader across all of its U.S. retail stores starting this week. This will certainly be a major boost for Square, who up until now has been able to handle over $1 million in payments per day and apparently keeps growing. Apparently, Square’s reader will be the only payments product featured in Apple stores, and most likely will be displayed in the main consumer-oriented accessories area inside the stores. Apple is also partnering with Square to provide training sessions at Apple stores, where you can learn how to use the card reader. Square’s card reader will set you back $9.95, and ships in either black or white. Square is also giving merchants a $10 redemption code. If you want to use the mobile payment card reader system, download the free application from the App Store and setup your free account. Square is quite simple to use, and it allows consumers and businesses to accept credit cards. Simply plug the reader into your iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), and use it with the free companion app. Keep in mind that Square will take a flat rate of 2.75% per transaction with any approved card. The company accepts all major debit and credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. » Related posts:
