Windows Phone for photog fun

Posted:

I’ve been bitten by the shutterbug!  After a trip to South Korea last year to visit LG’s headquarters I got the urge to take a LOT more pictures than I had been.  There was so much to see in South Korea that I snapped and snapped the whole time.  Now I am hooked on taking photos, and lots of them!  I do have a nice digital camera but it can’t come with me everywhere and while a slim digital camera would work well there is nothing quite so convenient...

Posted:

Ready for your monthly update on smartphone platform market share? comScore just released some fresh numbers and, although the final standings haven't changed much from last month, there's still some interesting info to be found. As usual, Android finished February 2011 with a market share of 33 percent, up from 26 percent in November. BlackBerry continued its tumble, falling 4.6 percent before settling at 28.9 percent at the end of Feb. In third place is iOS, growing 0.2 to finish at 25.2...

Verizon LTE bests Sprint WiMAX in research firm's speed tests

Posted:

Verizon and Sprint may both be CDMA carriers, but when it comes to 4G, the two companies have opted to use different technologies: Sprint has WiMAX, Verizon uses LTE. Which one is fastest? According to Walter Piecyk at BTIG Research, Verizon's network is ahead by a country mile. Piecyk and his team conducted over 1,000 speed tests in New York City recently, using the mobile hotspot functionality on a ThunderBolt on Verizon and an EVO 4G on Sprint to tether an iPad 2 and a Toshiba laptop and...

Is it surprising that the ThunderBolt is outselling the iPhone 4?

Posted:

The big question since the introduction of the CDMA iPhone was how iOS would affect Android sales for Verizon. Many feared that it would drastically slow the sale of Android phones, others laughed at the thought and gloated of removable batteries, expandable memory, and choice (manufacturer, form factor, price point, etc.). The ThunderBolt launched just over two weeks ago. It is Verizon's first new Android phone of 2011 and the first capable of accessing their incredibly fast LTE...

Nexus S 4G coming to Sprint on April 18th?

Posted:

Sure, the HTC EVO 3D is a pretty impressive little (or big) handset, but for those of us that prefer a more vanilla Android experience, the Nexus S 4G was the star of CTIA last month. Sprint said that their version of the Nexus S would be available sometime this spring, but thanks to a photo sent over to the folks at Android Central, we may have a more concrete date to look forward to. As you can see in the document up above, the WiMAX-ready Nexus could be arriving on your local Sprint store's...

FCC Commissioner not happy with potential AT&T/T-Mobile deal

Posted:

Time to add another person to the list of parties that aren't entirely thrilled with AT&T's proposed acquisition of T-Mobile. Today we've got FCC Commissioner Michael Copps voicing his displeasure, who revealed in an interview with C-SPAN that he's concerned with the amount of control a combined AT&T-Mobile would have if the deal does go through. Copps said that he believes that the acquisition "may be an even steeper climb" than the Comcast-NBC Universal deal, which he voted against. If ATT...

HTC ThunderBolt outselling the iPhone 4 at Verizon stores, claims analyst

Posted:

The HTC ThunderBolt and iPhone 4 are two of the hottest smartphones on the market, and they both happen to be on our list of the top smartphones available on Verizon. But which one is more popular with consumers? That's the question that BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk set out to answer when he called 150 different Verizon stores in 22 major cities across the U.S. After asking each store which handset was selling better, the team came up with the following figures: 61 percent of...

Highlights include the Sense UI and the browser's ability to show both Flash and HTML5 content, as well as the Flyer's Scribe technology that allows users to write on just about anything imaginable, including webpages, notes, and images. Samsung Galaxy Prevail destined to land on Boost Mobile?

Posted:

Last month we learned that Samsung and Boost Mobile would be teaming up to hold an event on April 5th and, while the invite didn't give any indication as to what could be in store, the fact that it was sent out to a bunch of Android blogs led many to believe that the announcement would be related to Google's OS. Now Boost and Samsung's big surprise may have leaked ahead of their big gathering. The device you're looking at above is reportedly called the Samsung Galaxy Prevail, which is said to...

Windows Phone 7's Mango update briefly spotted in action?

Posted:

Microsoft may not be pushing the Windows Phone 7 Mango update until sometime around the fall, but a new video showing off the platform's NoDo update may have just given us an early glimpse at WP7's next big update. At around the 2:45 mark in the video below, the camera pans down to a second smartphone with a feature not present in current NoDo-powered phones: a search key in the main menu. There's not a lot much more info to gather from the quick clip, but hey, we're never ones to turn down a...
