Sea-Air-Space 2011: World's Premier Maritime Exposition to Focus on International Initiatives and Advances in Alternative Energy

Navy League of the United States to feature a Maritime Energy Pavilion at its 2011 Sea-Air-Space Exposition to feature technology advances in energy with maritime applications.

Arlington, VA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 13, 2011

The Navy League of the United States will host a Maritime Energy Pavilion at its annual Sea-Air-Space Exposition scheduled for April 11-13, 2011 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. In addition to the Office of Naval Research, the pavilion will feature numerous companies highlighting the latest technological advances in the fields of energy conservation and development of alternative energies.

Establishment of the Maritime Energy Pavilion dovetails with efforts by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus who has been at the forefront of the effort to reduce the Department of the Navy's reliance on fossil fuels. In a January 2011 speech to the Clean Energy Summit he said, "Simply put, we as a military rely too much on fossil fuels. That dependence creates strategic, operational and tactical vulnerabilities for our forces and makes them susceptible to price and supply shocks caused by either man-made or natural disasters in the volatile areas of the world where most fossil fuels are produced." After assuming office in 2008, Secretary Mabus set the ambitious goal that at least half of all energy used by the Navy-Marine Corps team, both afloat and ashore, will come from non-fossil fuel sources by 2020.

The Navy League's Sea-Air-Space Exposition is the premier maritime exposition in the world with more than 150 exhibits and featuring professional seminars with many of the top civilian and military leaders from the U.S. Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Transportation as well as senior officials from the defense industry. Now in its forty-sixth year, the exposition is a showcase of national and international exhibits highlighting the latest advancements in sea power technology.

The theme for this year's event is "Internationally Engaged-Ensuring Freedom of the Seas". Highlights include a service chiefs' panel with the Chief of Naval Operations, Commandants of the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard as well as the Administrator from the Maritime Administration., informational seminars, floor speakers, and defense companies exhibiting weapons and sea power technologies for the 21st century. Visitors can register, book and manage room blocks, obtain exhibitor and sponsorship information at http://www.seaairspace.org.

The event is open at no charge to active duty, reserve and retired U.S. military personnel, U.S. government employees, members of Congress and their staffs, invited guests of the Navy League, representatives of exhibiting companies, representatives of foreign embassies, and Navy League members. It is not open to the general public.

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 and is a civilian organization with more than 50,000 members dedicated to educating American citizens and elected officials about the importance of sea power to U.S national security and supporting the men and women of the sea services and their families.

For more information or to register visit the Sea Air Space website or contact Mandy Robertson, Director of Corporate Events at mrobertson(at)navyleague(dot)org.

Audiobook Version of “”The Men Who Would Be King: An Almost Epic Tale of Moguls, Movies, and a Company Called DreamWorks (Unabridged)”" Now Available

Posted: 13 Mar 2011 06:04 AM PDT

“The Men Who Would Be King: An Almost Epic Tale of Moguls, Movies, and a Company Called DreamWorks (Unabridged)” is available as a digital audiobook from Audible.com. The title, provided by Tantor Media and authored by Nicole LaPorte, has also become an American Consumer News favorite..

The digital audiobook “The Men Who Would Be King: An Almost Epic Tale of Moguls, Movies, and a Company Called DreamWorks (Unabridged)”, narrated by Stephen Hoye, has received an average rating of 4.75 stars on Audible.com. The title has a running length of 18 hours and 5 min. The audiobook was first released in May 2010 and a sample is available for download.

Audible.com’s description of the audiobook is “For 60 years, since the birth of United Artists, the studio landscape was unchanged. Then came Hollywood’s Circus Maximus—created by director Steven Spielberg, billionaire David Geffen, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, who gave the world The Lion King—an entertainment empire called DreamWorks. Now Nicole LaPorte, who covered the company for Variety, goes behind the hype to reveal for the first time the delicious truth of what happened. Audiences will feel they are part of the creative calamities of moviemaking as LaPorte’s fly-on-the-wall detail shows us Hollywood’s bizarre rules of business. We see the clashes between the often otherworldly Spielberg’s troops and Katzenberg’s warriors, the debacles and disasters, but also the Oscar-winning triumphs, including Saving Private Ryan. We watch as the studio burns through billions, its rich owners get richer, and everybody else suffers. We see Geffen seducing investors like Microsoft’s Paul Allen, showing his steel against CAA’s Michael Ovitz, and staging fireworks during negotiations with Paramount and Disney. Here is Hollywood, up close, glamorous, and gritty. “
