We have been overwhelmed by the wonderful emails and appreciate the support and great ideas. We are working hard to incorporate many of the best ideas into future versions, so keep them coming!

A few issues have come to our attention and we are addressing them in a new release that we are about to submit to Apple. In the meantime:

* many of our users have tried to post positive reviews here on the App page, but for some reason the reviews are not appearing. We have emailed iTunes Connect Support and are trying to get this problem resolved as soon as possible. It is very frustrating for us and I’m sure it is for you too.

* a few users have had difficulties getting the app to load. We have been able to walk users through a work-around. The problem is a result of connectivity issues. Under certain limited situations, the app will detect a momentary connection problem and hang without warning you. Even if you correct the problem, the App may still not run. The solution is to remove the App from memory and restart it when you do have a good connection. Simply exit the App and double press the Home button on the bottom of the iPad. You will find the App in the bottom row with other apps in memory. Hold down the icon until it wobbles and press the ‘-’. CESA and the BHA have called for a rethink of Scotland's Zero Waste plans. They say food waste disposers and other treatment technologies provide a better, cheaper and more environmentally-sound solution than the proposed kerbside collection system.

"We fully support the need to reduce landfill and segregate food waste at source," says CESA chair Mick Shaddock. "But in their current state, Scotland's proposed Zero Waste regulations not only add a serious financial burden to Scottish caterers, they also ignore the technologies, already available, that can solve the issues more cheaply and more effectively."

CESA (the Catering Equipment Suppliers Association) has joined forces with the BHA (the British Hospitality Association) in a submission to Holyrood setting out the issues. Its key points are:

The proposal to impose mandatory kerbside collection ignores the potential of established technologies, such as food waste disposers (FWDs) and composters, to achieve the Zero Waste objectives, more efficiently and more cheaply.
The Bill's 'one solution' model (of kerbside collection of food waste for treatment) is a barrier to innovation in developing waste recycling and disposal technologies.
Technologies that separate, pre-treat or process food waste before it leaves the premises significantly reduce the volume (of food waste) transported by road. By improving the management of dry, solid waste they reduce cost and increase energy efficiency.
Health and security could be compromised under the proposals. For example, onsite equipment already plays a crucial role in Scottish hospitals, where immediate treatment of food waste is a significant and established hygiene benefit.
If collection of the food waste is disrupted, for example by weather or industrial action, then a significant health hazard would be created.
The onsite food waste treatment equipment already used in 2,700 Scottish businesses will be rendered redundant by the proposals (even though it does a more efficient job at a lower cost). Meanwhile, the tax payer will have to fund the building of new food waste processing plants.

CESA also criticises the concerns raised in the Zero Waste proposals about the 'potential adverse effects' of FWDs and other food waste treatment systems. "These concerns are misleading and incorrect," says Mick Shaddock. "We have provided Holyrood with robust, international scientific evidence to prove these technologies deliver an effective, environmentally-sound solution."

The Zero Waste Proposals in numbers:

£1,500: the average cost to Scottish businesses to cover the cost of the proposals' food waste collection.
2,700: the number of Scottish businesses that already have onsite food waste treatment equipment.
2,700: the number of onsite treatment systems that will be made redundant by the proposals.
17,000: the number of Scottish businesses that will be affected by the proposals.

CESA also points out that, in larger kitchens, onsite food waste equipment can actually contribute to the establishment's income. An award-winning composting system at Imperial College, London, achieved payback in less than a year, by recycling over 50 tonnes of food waste from the campus.

"The established food waste treatment technologies are a better way to achieve the Zero Waste targets and position Scotland at the forefront of innovation in waste reduction," says Mick Shaddock. "What's more, they provide a solution that's more environmentally-sound and at a lower cost."

A tiny winery in the hills above Temecula has turned the wine world on its ear by winning a medal at a competition that attracts the top Pinot Noirs in the world.

Woodworth Vineyard's 2008 Pinot Noir won a Gold Medal at the 9th Annual Pinot Noir Summit and finished third in its judging category. It's the only Pinot Noir still wine grown and produced in the Temecula Valley wine region.

Woodworth's 2008 Pinot Noir achieved scores of 93 and 94 from judges who tasted more than 360 competing wines from the United States, France, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.

"We're obviously ecstatic that a panel of judges including sommeliers, wine makers, wine writers, chefs and wine lovers, determined that our Pinot was among the best," said Marlene Woodworth, who owns the winery with her winemaker husband, Gary. "It was even more exciting that we won while competing against traditional Pinot Noir strongholds such as Carneros in Napa, Santa Barbara and Russian River."

Southern California is generally considered too hot to grow Pinot Noir. Woodworth Vineyards, however, enjoys a unique micro-climate with warm days and very cool nights coupled with coastal fog in the mornings, an ideal environment for Pinot.

"Pinot Noir lovers spoke out loud and clear at the 9th Annual Pinot Noir Summit," Barbara Drady, Pinot Noir Summit organizer and wine evangelist. "In an unmistakable statement of preference, they embraced wines of elegance and varietal authenticity rather than burly Syrah-like Pinots, the muscular Pinot Noirs made popular by a few influential reviewers and their publications."

Described as the "most romantic of wines," the 2008 Pinot Noir from Woodworth has notes of bright cherry and little bit of spice followed by a big berry taste accentuated by soft tannins and a lingering finish with smoky hints of tobacco. Gary and Marlene Woodworth produce all of their wines in small batches. Only 140 cases of the 2008 Pinot Noir were made. The Woodworths purchased 45 acres in De Luz in 2000. Eight acres are planted with grapes, including nearly 3 acres devoted exclusively to Pinot Noir. The Pinot vines were grafted onto Syrah, Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon root stock over the last five years. Woodworth Vineyards also produces Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, a White Merlot (Golden Maggie), a blend of Chardonnay and Muscat (Sweet Sophie) and a red blend (Black Dog).
