Monster.com Launches Job Search App for Android Devices Posted: 10 Mar 2011 04:07 AM PST With the economy the way it is and unemployment on the rise, many people are turning to job search websites to help them in the application process. Employment website Monster.com has now made the process even more simple, by launching its Job Search app for Android devices. However, as Caitlin M. Foyt from androidapps.com points out, you do have to fill in your credentials, provide your job history and upload a resume and cover letter to complete an online profile, it is advisable that you start the process off on a computer rather than your smartphone. Once users have created their profile and they log into the application's main menu, they will see six different categories to choose from. This includes "Job Search," "Saved Jobs," "Saved Searches," "Resumes," "Cover Letters," "Apply History" and "Settings." When you then do a job search, the app enables you to filter your results by job title, location and skills/keywords. Although the Monster.com Job Search app does enable you to apply for the job directly through the app, some prospective employers require you to submit your application via their own website. The layout of the app – which is free to download from the Android Market – is fairly straightforward, which makes it easy to navigate. Would you use a job search app such as the one from Monster.com? For more coverage:
Verizon LG Revolution 4G, Before HTC Thunderbolt Release Date Posted: 10 Mar 2011 03:55 AM PST All the talk lately has been about when Verizon will finally get round to revealing the HTC Thunderbolt release date. But we could see the LG Revolution 4G LTE coming out before the HTC handset. Chris Burns over at Android Community is reporting the lovely looking LG comes with a 4.3-inch display with 480×800 resolution, and a 1GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor. There is a 5-megapixel camera round the back, with 1.3-megapixel shooter on the front. You will also find a HDMI output where the device pushes out 720p HD video. LG have put the device through the FCC under the mane of LG VS910, and it has support for Verizon's CDMA/EVDO 850, 1900 network. The LG looks to be available pretty soon, and it has support for Verizon's 4G LTE 700 network as well. From information contained in the FCC filing it looks like the handset will be available this month, and could mean it will be the first 4G LTE available on the Verizon network beating the HTC Thunderbolt. Unless HTC and Verizon suddenly announce a date for the Thunderbolt release date. You can see the FCC filing here for yourself. For more coverage:
Cars with Worst Gas Mileage: List of 2011 Models Posted: 10 Mar 2011 03:37 AM PST We recently gave you a list of some of the cars with the best mileage and also told you about some iOS apps which will help you to extend your precious gas mileage, but now we have a list of some of the worst 2011 cars that don’t impress when it comes to gas mileage. If you are currently searching for a new car, and you want a new 2011 model, you’ll definitely need to know which cars are the best for saving money on gas, and which cars are the worst, since car dealers are very unlikely to admit to such shortcomings when they are trying to sell you their motor. Luckily for you, that’s where we can help, and we have a strong list of contenders with regards to the ‘worst gas mileage cars for 2011′ title. First up is the 2011 Nissan Titan and according to Autoropolis, the EPA has classified it as the least efficient truck of 2011 so far. It’s priced at around $28,820 and customers buying one should expect to make frequent trips to the gas station to fill up. Another contender is the 2011 Audi R8 Spyder, aimed at the more luxurious consumer with a price tag of around $112,152. If you compare this model with other sports cars on the market at the moment, the Audi R8 is probably the least fuel efficient choice you can buy. However, if you’re paying over $100,000 for a car, fuel costs are unlikely to be a major problem for you. If you want to read on and hear which other car models make it onto the worst car mileage list, head over to Autotropolis here. Alternatively, we’ve found another article over at DMV which lists several other motors that you should avoid. If you are currently driving a car which you think should be criticized for it’s gas mileage performance, leave us a comment below. For more coverage:
Rage Game: New Weapons Details Emerge Posted: 10 Mar 2011 03:28 AM PST The last time we heard any new information on the much-anticipated Rage game, was when a new trailer surfaced online a week or so ago. However, we do have some good news for those that want to hear more about the upcoming title, as new weapons details have recently emerged. As Charles Onyett from the uk.pc.ign.com website recently noted, shooter games are quite a big thing this year and id Software's Rage game is probably one of the most exciting. Although there are no doubt many great features in the game, it's actually the weapons we want to talk about. The developer has decided to include a few RPG elements within the Rage game, enabling players to customize their arsenal. Gamers will be able to collect different components from all across the game world, and combine them together to create brand new gadgets. That's assuming that they've already found or purchased the corresponding schematics. Each weapon can have up to four different ammunition types, as well as a few upgrades. The game also features bladed boomerangs called wingsticks, which automatically track the enemy you are aiming it at. Another interesting weapon is the crossbow, which allows gamers to use regular bolts or electric shots. Most weapons – apart from the pistol and other one-handed weapons – come with an iron sight for better aiming. For increased accuracy on the pistol/one-handed weapons, players can buy a scope. You can read more about the weapons via ign.com. Will you be picking up a copy of the Rage game? For more coverage:
We Dare Game: Ubisoft Cancels Release in UK Posted: 10 Mar 2011 02:52 AM PST When a teaser trailer for Ubisoft's upcoming adult-orientated party game We Dare – which will be available for the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 – first hit the Internet a couple of weeks ago, it (and the game itself) sparked quite a reaction amongst parents and politicians. Shortly after, the developer announced that the game would unfortunately not be released in the United States. According to a recent article by Andy Chalk over at escapistmagazine.com (via IGN), Ubisoft has now decided to cancel the game's release in the UK as well. Although the actual trailer raised a few eyebrows, the uproar was in fact sparked a few days later when PEGI gave the We Dare game a rating of 12+. PEGI has since defended its rating, stating that their conclusions were based upon the game's experience and not the marketing. However, it still hasn't stopped parents from expressing their opinion on the game, which appears to be that it would encourage children to engage in underage sex. What do you think of PEGI's 12+ rating for the We Dare game? How many more countries will see their releases canceled? It kind of makes us think that the game is maybe doomed from the start. What do you think? For more coverage:
Resisting iPad 2 for iPad Mini or iPhone 5 Posted: 10 Mar 2011 02:51 AM PST Every time Apple brings out a shiny new product many people decide they must have the device as of yesterday. Even though some may have only just bought the original version of any given device, as soon as a new one becomes available they rush out and purchase it. This will be repeating itself now the new iPad 2 after it was announced last week. David Carnoy over at Cnet has written an article that attempts to help people to resist the iPad 2. He mentions that there are four future Apple products which are worth holding out for. If the MacBook Air gets the Intel Sandy Bridge processor which is now found in the latest MacBook Pros, this would be worth holding out for. Not everyone can afford both options but with the new chips installed the Air will be a worthy alternative. We are only a few months away from the expected announcement of the iPhone 5, and with some suggesting there could be more than one model. There has been talk of a bigger screen it might be better to wait and see before taking the plunge with the new iPad. Talk of a future iPad Mini with a 7-inch screen would please many people, and may be worth waiting for if it ever happens. Or what about holding fire until next year when we would see the 3rd generation of iPad, it would likely be more powerful and even thinner then the iPad 2 which was announced last week. Surely you can make do with your original iPad for one more year. Or if you can't wait that long in a few months you will be able to get refurbished iPad 2s from Apple, and you still get your one year's warranty. What do you think? Is it worth holding on and get the next version of the iPad? For more coverage:
| HTC HD7: NoDo Copy and Paste Update – Download Already Posted: 10 Mar 2011 02:08 AM PST Earlier on we informed you that Microsoft were planning to release their ‘NoDo’ update for Window Phone 7 users towards the end of March, but now we have some fantastic news for those of you who own the HTC HD7 handset. It turns out that HTC HD7 owners won’t have to wait until the NoDo update releases end of March, because one clever individual has leaked the upcoming build for the HTC HD7, and it’s available to download now for those with the European version of the handset, as reported from BGR. You’ll find the .exe download over at XDA Developers Forums, but we’ve taken a look at the all of the user comments and although this version is confirmed to be working, it doesn’t look like an easy task for beginners to attempt. With this in mind, we advise all European HD7 owners to attempt this install with caution, as we don’t want to be responsible for bricked handsets. Having said that, it’s pretty amazing that the forum user has released this to everyone with weeks to go before Microsoft push it out officially – we’re not sure they are seeing the funny side of it though. If you have attempted such mods before on your HD7, try out the NoDo update now and let us know how you get on with it. If you’re successful, leave us a message below so others can follow. | PlugShare: Shows Where To Charge Electric Car Posted: 10 Mar 2011 01:53 AM PST If you have an electric car one thing which can cause concern is running out of juice, and not being able to find somewhere to recharge. But a really clever free application was recently released that can help users find their nearest charging station. PlugShare 1.0 is available for owners of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The application shows users all the public charging stations on a map, and can use the devices GPS to find the nearest charging station and even provide directions to it. Users can also share their personal charging stations with fellow electric vehicle owners by adding their address. PlugShare provides users with a backup plan if they unexpectedly find themselves running out of power for their vehicle. You don't have to own an electric car to share your plug either, anyone who is willing to provide somewhere for people to charge their cars is welcome. The developer is currently working on a version for the Android Market. More information can be found on the PlugShare website. PlugShare 1.0 is available free of charge on the App Store. iOS 3.0 or later required. For more coverage: |
iOS 4.3 Home Sharing Problems, iTunes Library Restriction For Kids Posted: 10 Mar 2011 01:13 AM PST Apple's Airplay was a great feature for being able to push content to your TV via the iPad; iPhone and iPod but many families did not need that feature. The release of iOS 4.3 improved things, now the above portable devices can benefit from a feature that Mac and Windows computers had for some time with iTunes. Home Sharing is a major improvement to iOS and streaming video, music, and more around the home. You can now pull movies from your iTunes Library to the iPad, iPhone and IPod although this is met with problems when it comes to kids. Your iTunes Library could include 18+ content, which is not good if a child starts to watch a movie like this, so how do you go about setting a restriction for children? Could you imagine an 8-year old watching 'Chainsaw Massacre' via their iPad, this could easily happen if restrictions are not put in place for kids. One quick answer is to build up another library for the younger audience, but this may not be the answer for some, especially if space is limited. What we would like to see is some "child control' feature added to iOS 4.4, iOS 5.0 or the next version of Apple iTunes that makes setting controls unique to each Apple device. If you have any ideas we’ve missed, then please let us know in the comments. For more coverage:
Mortal Kombat 2011: Sub Zero Vs Scorpion – Who is Better? Posted: 10 Mar 2011 01:12 AM PST Considering that the remake to arguably the best fighting game on the planet is about to release on the Xbox 360 and PS3, we thought we would gather your opinions on which fighter is better between Mortal Kombat brawlers Sub Zero and Scorpion – likely to be the two most used characters in the game. Of course it’s a difficult decision for fans of both fighters, but considering they absolutely loathe each other in the world of Mortal Kombat, it’s only right for us to fight amongst ourselves as to who is the better character out of the two. To help you decide with this, you should first watch the excellent gameplay video below between the two fighters courtesy of Eurogamer, which we’re guessing was taken from the upcoming demo of the game, due out March 15th or now if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription. Which character has the better moves, and which are you planning to use more when the game releases? We have a funny feeling that most of you are going to pick Scorpion on this one, since perhaps he is seen as the more ‘badass’ character. Then again, we may be completely wrong and it is Sub Zero that gets your vote. Prove us wrong on this one – Scorpion or Sub Zero guys? Don’t forget to tell us why too! For more coverage:
Healthiest use of vending machine, not just foods Posted: 10 Mar 2011 01:09 AM PST With oil prices going crazy we need technology that improves the use of electric cars, and this is just what Japan are doing with the introduction of vending machines that charge electric cars. An article over at The Independent is reporting that ten companies have announced plans for charge stations; these will be sited across Japan in a cost-cutting measure. The group of companies which include Panasonic Electric Works, Forking Co. will work together to produce and develop electric vehicle chargers. Forking has access to 1.2 million vending machines across Japan which is around half the total in the entire country. The group of firms is planning to add around 10,000 vehicle chargers at vending machine sites beginning the end of this month. SoftBank Mobile and SoftBank Telecom are set to provide telecom services for the charging stations. We have seen vehicle manufacturers launching electric cars such as Nissan with the leaf last year, but many people feel the lack of charging options makes switching to electric cars not practical. But with this sort of investment could see electric vehicles becoming more popular. You may also want to read about the healthiest vending machine foods, which can be seen here. For more coverage:
Samsung Stealth SCH-i520: Verizon Release Date and 4G LTE Specs Update Posted: 10 Mar 2011 12:48 AM PST All eyes may be on the highly anticipated HTC Thunderbolt handset due for an imminent release on Verizon, but how many of you knew that Verizon has another 4G LTE handset due to land soon? We have details on the handset now, nicknamed the Samsung Stealth. We first told you about this phone back in December 2010, but then it was only identified by it’s model name SCH-i520. Now we know it’s called the Samsung Stealth and it could be releasing on Verizon sometime next month, according to this report from TechnoBuffalo. The handset will be 4G LTE enabled on Verizon and it’s respectable specs include a 4.3-inch screen, a 1GHz processor, an 8 megapixel camera with 1.3 MP front camera, HDMI-out and the usual WiFi, aGPS and Bluetooth connectivity options. It will be an Android 2.2 Froyo handset but as you can see above, there is no room for a dual-core processor, which will probably result in the Stealth playing second fiddle to the HTC Thunderbolt, whenever it decides to release of course. The rear camera design on the back of the stealth is rather eye-catching, you can check out a picture over it over at TechnoBuffalo. After viewing their photos, let us know if you’re interested in this handset or not. For more coverage:
Windows Phone 7: NoDo Release Date Update Posted: 09 Mar 2011 11:57 PM PST We have yet more details on upcoming Windows Phone 7 updates, and this time it relates to ‘NoDo’ – the codename for the copy and paste update which is now going to be landing on handsets towards the end of March, after initially receiving a delay. The good news, is that Microsoft has now confirmed that their NoDo update will definitely be coming out at the end of March. Here is a portion of their recent message via the official Windows Phone 7 blog in France, translated courtesy of BGR: "We are delighted to share with you that this update will be available for the second half of March through your Zune software.” Microsoft go on to say that all users will receive an OTA notification, telling them when the update is available to download. What they didn’t say was the exact date that this update would be occuring, or if the end of March date applies to just Europe, or if it’s a global release. What are your thoughts on this future update, WP7 users? At least it gives you something to be happy about, until the main ‘Mango’ update occurs towards the end of the year adding multitasking and other goodies. You can view a video preview of the NoDo update showing the copy and paste feature below. For more coverage:
PS3 Firmware Update 3.60: Download Live – Problems with PS Plus Only Features? Posted: 09 Mar 2011 11:20 PM PST As we informed you yesterday, Sony were planning to drop PS3 firmware 3.60 onto systems, and now we can confirm that the update is now indeed live. However, we want to know what those of you without PlayStation Plus subscriptions think about the exclusive new features that subscribers are getting. You’ll be able to download v3.60 the next time you boot up your PS3, and the biggest feature of the software is the ability to store game saves on Sony’s new cloud system, up to 150MB – but only if you’re a premium subscriber. Of course it’s a neat feature, but are you a little frustrated that you have to pay $50 a year to get it? You could argue that such a big feature should be on the core list of features for the PS3 anyway. We hate to think that in-game cross voice chat, the one feature that all PS3 owners are dying to see, will end up being a PSN+ feature only as well. What are your thoughts on this? PSN+ users will argue that Sony should make this a premium feature, but then those without may be annoyed that they can’t make use it without paying more money. This is the first big feature that Sony has given their premium members, what is going to be the next? For more coverage:
iOS 5 Release Date: Apple Media Event Planned Next Month? Posted: 09 Mar 2011 10:31 PM PST Apple has only just released iOS 4.3 for devices hours ago, but now we have some exciting details in relation to iOS 5, which is apparently going to be the next version of Apple’s mobile software. The good news is that the release may not to too far away than you perhaps had expected. iOS 4.3 has brought notable new features to users, including a personal hotspot feature for the iPhone 4, Home Sharing via iTunes 10.2 , new AirPlay features and also improvements to the Safari browser. However, version 5.0 of the software is thought to be coming in April, at another of Apple’s media events, which is yet to be announced. New features will apparently include iTunes cloud storage and a revamped version of MobileMe, as reported from Redmond Pie. Considering we have only just got our hands on iOS 4.3, it does seem a bit farfetched that iOS 5 could be arriving as early as next month. So perhaps with this in mind, you should take these rumors with a pinch of salt. Of course, we hope it’s true as a bump up to 5.0 instead of iOS 4.4 should theoretically mean bigger and better features for users. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think iOS 5 will release next month or is it too soon? For more coverage:
| White iPhone 4: Release Update Teases Future iPhone 5 Owners Posted: 09 Mar 2011 05:32 PM PST If you read our report earlier, you’ll know that Apple may be planning to finally release the White iPhone 4 sometime next month, according to an industry analyst. But is it far too late? How many of you would actually be willing to still get one with the imminent arrival of the iPhone 5? While we agree the White iPhone 4 adds an all new sexy dimension to our favorite iPhone despite just being a different splash of paint, it could be seen as a very risky move for consumers to buy one with the possible arrival of the fifth generation iPhone. Of course, nobody knows that an iPhone 5 will definitely arrive this Summer at WWDC 2011, but the rumor mill is definitely not slowing down, and when it is in full force like this, it usually means that a new device is on the way – just like we all knew the iPad 2 was coming prior to it’s announcement recently. With this in mind, how many of you would still be willing to commit to a new contract or pay a considerable sum of money for a white version of the iPhone 4? If you’re asking for our opinion on it, we’d say it’s too risky and you may end up regretting it by the time Steve Jobs takes to the stage (we hope!) for WWDC 2011 during June. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this one, so let us know where you stand. | Nokia Phone Charger: Charge your Mobile Whilst Riding Your Bicycle Posted: 09 Mar 2011 03:37 PM PST With society being as it is today, obsessed with consumer electronics and wanting to stay green so as to aid in saving the environment, it is no wonder a device like this becomes the perfect answer for convenience on the go. Nokia have announced a new bicycle powered mobile phone charger. For those of you who find the traffic for the commute to work too horrendous or if you're just trying to keep fit, so choose to ride, then keeping your phone charged is no longer an inconvenience. The charging device is a cradle that sits in the center of the handlebars and straps your phone securely with a charging plug. The power for the plug is generated from a converter that's attached to your front wheel, and as the wheel spins the small turbine sends power to your mobile. The charging doesn't begin until the rider reaches the speed of 6kmh and according to Nokia when the rider is at 12kmh the charger is just as effective as a standard wall version. As the article from Rue Liu at Slashgear explains this charger is currently available to Europe, Africa, Asia and India with no word of a US release so far. For more details about the Nokia bicycle charger you can check out the full article at Slashgear by clicking the link. What do you think about the device? Would it convenience you in your lifestyle at all? Let us know in the comments. For more coverage: |
