THOR, Captain America for Nintendo 3DS and Release Date

Posted: 18 Mar 2011 04:37 AM PDT

THOR, Captain America for Nintendo 3DS and Release Date

Last year we brought you a few details on two upcoming movie-based video games in development with Sega, one being Thor: God of Thunder and the other being Captain America: Super Soldier. At the time, the game was only being released for the PSP, Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii and the DS.

However, according to Wesley Yin-Poole over at eurogamer.net, Sega has just confirmed in a Twitter post that both games will also be released for the much-anticipated Nintendo 3DS. The Thor: God of Thunder game is due to arrive on April 29th, which is the same day that the movie opens in the UK.

Thor comic book author Matt Fraction had a part in writing the Thor: God of Thunder game, which is also said to feature the voice of actor Chris Hemsworth. In the meantime, the Captain America: Super Soldier game is not due out until the summer of this year, which is also when the film is due to air.

Captain America: Super Soldier is a third-person action adventure with plenty of running around and jumping, as well as a large dose of combat. The game – which is aimed at complimenting the upcoming movie – sees Captain America facing up against his arch enemy, Red Skull.

Would you buy either of these games if you purchase the Nintendo 3DS?

Mass Effect 2 DLC: BioWare Unveil 3 Arrival Screenshots

BioWare still hasn’t announced the ‘Arrival’ DLC for Mass Effect 2, however recently they have been posting screenshots and hints on the official BioWare Facebook page, which must mean that an announcement is coming.

We first heard about the Arrival DLC late last month when an update for the PS3 version of the game leaked trophy details which mentioned the upcoming DLC, now BioWare are creating a buzz on their Facebook page.

Three screenshots have been posted in the last day or so, all of which feature comments from BioWare with the words “Arriving” and “Arrived”, which are obviously not-so subtle hints which we think confirm the Arrival DLC.

We have embedded all three screenshots at the end of this post, none of the screens give anything to substantial away, however we see what looks to be a countdown timer on one and then another shows the numbers “304942″, what does this mean?

Check out the screens for yourself and let us know whether you spot anything. What is the countdown timer for? What is the significance of “304942″? Let us know your theories in the comments section below.

RIM Launches Facebook for BlackBerry v2.0 Beta – Includes Chat

We have some great news now for all you social networking fans that own a BlackBerry smartphone, as RIM has just launched beta version 2.0 of the Facebook for BlackBerry app. Version 2.0 not only brings a redesigned user interface, but it also inlcudes Facebook Chat.

As noted over on the blogs.blackberry.com website, BlackBerry smartphone users will now be able to check if any of their Facebook friends are online, and either start a Chat with them from within the Facebook app or from within the unified mailbox on their BlackBerry handsets.

The great thing about the Facebook for BlackBerry app is the fact that as long the user's status is set to online, they will still receive notifications even when they are not using the social networking app. Version 2.0 has also provided users with an improved news feed.

Users will now be able to scroll through their News Feed without clicking the 'Like' button accidentally. All users have to do to interact with their friends' posts is simply click the 'More' button. Gladiator Begins: PSP Game Coming to UK and Europe

If you live in the UK or Europe, you own a PlayStation Portable and you enjoy playing action role-playing games, then we may have some interesting news for you. Zen United and PQube have just announced that the Gladiator Begins game will be available on the PSP in both Europe and the UK sometime in May.

As recently noted over on the mcvuk.com website, the Gladiator Begins game – which was created by Tenchu and Way of the Samurai developer Acquire – combines the bloody violence of Gladiatorial combat with the customization options of a role playing game.

Players will be able to take their characters from a humble slave to a skilled Gladiator, by fighting for gold and skill points that enable them to develop their character's abilities. As the player's fame begins to rise, different story paths will be opened for different characters, giving the game added replayability.

The Gladiator Begins game allows its players to choose their own fighting style, and then exploit the innovative fighting system that enables them to target specific armor or body parts in order to disarm their opponents. Free DLC will be available from the PlayStation Network, including new characters and weapons.

Are you a big fan of action-RPGs? If so, can you see yourself playing the Gladiator Begins game?

Mortal Kombat 10 Will Still Use Unreal Engine 3 – Good Idea or Not?

Mortal Kombat 10 Will Still Use Unreal Engine 3 – Good Idea or Not?

We have some important news for Mortal Kombat fans now, as we have heard that a deal has been struck between Warner Bros and Epic Games which will ensure that followup titles from developers NetherRealm Studios will still make use of the old Unreal Engine 3.

We say old, but it’s still a pretty good engine, as you can see from titles such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Gears of War 1 and 2, Unreal Tournament and of course the upcoming Mortal Kombat game due out in April on PS3 and Xbox 360.

However, this latest deal by Warner and Epic ensures that the Unreal Engine will still be used on all future Warner games until 2014, as reported from Joystiq, which of course could include followup titles to Batman: Arkham City and Mortal Kombat 9 – How would you feel about this?

The graphics are looking pretty impressive for Mortal Kombat as it is, but are you perhaps disappointed that a potential follow-up to Mortal Kombat will use the same Unreal Engine 3, and not a brand new one, like Unreal 4 for example? Epic has stated that 2012 will be the year when the Unreal Engine 4 will be ready for developer use so, we’re hoping that things may change at this point next year.

We are probably jumping ahead of ourselves here, but we can definitely see another Mortal Kombat game in the pipeline. The 2011 game isn’t even out yet but you can already see that it is going to go down a treat with fans..see what 2D can do for you? Give your thoughts on this folks.

Nintendo 3DS vs iPad 2 UK Release: Who Gets Your Money?

Nintendo 3DS vs iPad 2 UK Release: Who Gets Your Money?

This time next week promises to be a busy time for all the tech lovers in the UK. On the 25th not only will British consumers be able to get their hands on the Nintendo 3DS, the iPad 2 becomes available as well.

Online retailer Amazon has announced the Nintendo 3DS has become the most pre-ordered console ever on the site, according to a report by Dominic Sacco from MCV. The retailer has also lowered the price of the console to £187. This makes them currently the cheapest UK retailer to get the device along with supermarket giant Morrison's.

The handheld console has seen twenty percent more pre-orders than what the PlayStation 3 managed in 2007. It eclipses the pre-order numbers for the Wii console by 56 percent and a massive 255 percent over the DSi.

Next week should also see the release of the iPad 2, which will prove just as popular. Having these two great pieces of tech becoming available on the same day may cause a headache for some who want both.

Retailers could be seeing some much needed cash going through their systems next week as this nice new tech comes to market, unless there is a last minute delay with the iPad 2 due to stock levels.

Which one will you be buying next week?

iPad 2 vs Motorola Xoom: HTML5 Perspective

iPad 2 vs Motorola Xoom: HTML5 Perspective

As the latest round of tablet PCs come available, consumers will be looking how they compare against each other when using features that are going to be used most. Web browsing is one feature which will be used a lot with these devices, so how do the iPad 2 and Motorola Xoom match up when tested with HTML5.

Aditya Bansod of Sencha has recently tested both devices to see how they perform. With the Motorola Xoom they were really looking forward to the first purpose built Android operating system for tablets. But unfortunately the Xoom and Honeycomb were found to be disappointing. It had issues in both CSS3 Animations and CSS3 Transitions, and the browser crashed and hung.

Besides the HTML5 features there were also web rendering issues including form element borders disappearing unpredictably at various zoom resolutions, the accelerometer object being upside down, amongst other things. It is hoped that a patch will soon fix this.

With the iPad 2 it was concluded that the Safari browser was the best implementation of WebKit on a mobile device. The browser had everything thrown at it but it still managed to keep up with the most advanced CSS3 and HTML5 websites.

There were a few minor issues such as Acid3 rendering artifacts, and a couple of inconsistencies in the Modernizr results. In the future it would be nice to have support for Media Capture APIs, but Apple's products are great for the HTML5 developer. Aditya Bansod of Sencha has done detailed tests on both the iPad 2 and Motorola Xoom which you can read by clicking the links provided.

HTC Thunderbolt Problems: SMS Bug Affecting Users?

HTC Thunderbolt Problems: SMS Bug Affecting Users?

The HTC Thunderbolt has just got out of Verizon’s front door, but we are already hearing about some problems on the device, with users complaining that there is an SMS bug preventing them from sending messages effectively – does this apply to you?

This hasn’t been confirmed by Verizon yet, but it is bound to be a fresh headache for the carrier who came under criticism for their repeated delays of Verizon’s first 4G LTE capable smartphone.

The apparent problem is an unusual one as welll, as we’re hearing that when some Thunderbolt users send messages, the recipient sees a SIM card number on the calling display, rather than their actual number. This has been clarified on both the XDA Forums, and Android Forums, as reported from Phandroid.

Aside from the fact that some users are having problems sending any messages at all, we’re hearing that some recipients are getting double messages as well. We don’t know how widespread this problem is at the moment, so help us out and tell us if you are experiencing any problems on your Thunderbolt.

We’ll update this as soon as we hear from Verizon.

Motorola Xoom: WiFi Price Includes Free Case at Costco

We have been informing you about various WiFi prices that have been surfacing online for the Motorola Xoom. We now know the official price is $599 but that doesn’t mean you should pick it up direct from Verizon as there are plenty of options available to you.

One such option is from Costco, as they have just announced that the WiFi edition of the Motorola Xoom is now available to pre-order on their website with a $10 discount – but that’s not all either!

If you pre-order one for $589.99 from them, they’ll also give you a free ‘gel’ case for the Xoom as their way of saying thank you, as reported from BGR. They’ll also ship your Honeycomb equipped Xoom for free as well, so you won’t have to pay any usual shipping charges, not bad at all.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a picture of the gel case yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do. You can view the Costco product listing online here if you want to pre-order. This is probably the first of many pre-order incentive deals that retailers are going to try and entice you with for the Xoom. Are you interested in this deal? A $10 discount, a free case and free shipping is definitely not a bad start is it? Let us know your thoughts on this.

LG G-Slate and G2X New Rumored Release Date on T-Mobile

LG G-Slate and G2X New Rumored Release Date on T-Mobile

We have some good news for those of you who are looking forward to LG’s collection of impressive devices. By this we’re talking about the Optimus 2X smartphone and the G-Slate tablet, both of which are heading to T-Mobile in the coming weeks.

As it often happens in the industry, products are given different names depending on which carrier they go to in Europe or United States. The same thing applies here with these two. The G-Slate is coming to T-Mobile but you may also know it as the LG Optimus Pad.

The dual-core equipped Optimux 2X is already available in Korea, but it will be landing on T-Mobile as the G2X – not sure if we dig that name just yet. Anyway, the real news here is that we have a new rumored release date courtesy of BGR. That date is April 20th, and is apparently the date in which both devices will arrive.

Just to recap, the G2X features a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 3D camera and 1080p video recording, while the G-Slate tablet which we’ve been really impressed with, runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, has the same 1Ghz Tegra 2 processor and also comes with a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.

Are you going to be picking up either device on T-Mobile? We have a feeling that the G2X smartphone is going to be very popular, what with that dual-core processor and 3D camera combo.

Mortal Kombat Vs Street Fighter: Which Franchise is Better?

Mortal Kombat Vs Street Fighter: Which Franchise is Better?

With NetherRealm Studio’s highly anticipated Mortal Kombat reboot fastly approaching, we thought we would ask you hardcore fighting fans for your opinions on the game, in the form of a poll against Capcom’s mighty Street Fighter games. Which franchise is better in your opinion?

This is of course the ultimate question, one which is sure to divide many over whether the Street Fighter games are simply the best fighting games in history, or if the more violent Mortal Kombat series satisfy you more.

If you like video games and grew up during the 90s, there is a very high possibility that Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 arcade machines were the highlight of many gaming arcades around the world, well they definitely were when I grew up anyway.

I specifically remember crowds and crowds of people queuing up to play Street Fighter II Championship Edition, and then you also had some arcade machines which had been modded so when Ryu threw a fireball, about 10 appeared on screen. It was more of the same thing for Mortal Kombat 3 in the arcades as well, as I used to remember people crowding round watching this one guy perfoming Cyrax’s shark animality on screen much to the delight of everyone watching.

Enough about my experiences though, what are your fond memories of both games? Could you possibly pick between either of them – it’s a tough call we admit. Nowadays it’s all about Street Fighter IV as that has set the benchmark but the arrival of a fresh Mortal Kombat, back in glorious 2D could shake things up nicely. We’ve created a poll below for you to vote on this, and I particularly can’t wait to see the results of it.

So let’s have it out fighting fans – Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

iPad 2 Vs Motorola Xoom Vs Samsung Galaxy Tab: Which Camera is Better?

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 09:48 PM PDT

iPad 2 Vs Motorola Xoom Vs Samsung Galaxy Tab: Which Camera is Better?

If you are currently undecided on whether to pick up the new iPad 2 or Motorola Xoom tablet devices, we have a detailed comparison between the two as well as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which shows you exactly what the camera quality is like on each device.

As most of you will know, Apple was rather silent when it came to giving exact details on the camera sensors featured on the iPad 2, so perhaps the following videos and pictures we’re about to show you will give you a good idea just how decent, or poor the cameras actually are.

Motorola on the other hand has equipped a 5 megapixel camera on the back with 720p video recording, as well as a separate 2 megapixel camera on the front, which is pretty good since other tablet devices and mobile phones usually come equipped with a 1.3 megapixel, or even just VGA in some instances.

Back to the comparison though, and you can view a series of videos and pictures over at Macworld. There are different types of stills for the Galaxy Tab, iPad 2 and Xoom, and then there’s also video comparisons, both in normal light conditions and low-light conditions – you may want to look away though at the poor quality of the Xoom and iPad 2 in low-light. Surely a device has to come along soon which can take solid videos in darkness? – Just our thoughts anyway.

Which camera do you think is the best? The original Galaxy Tab with a 3.2MP rear and 1.3MP front camera actually performs better than the iPad 2 camera in our opinion, just look at the pictures yourself for proof. The Xoom comes out on top we think, but then again it does have the best cameras out of the three devices.

Internet Explorer 9 (IE9): Download Statistics Less Than Impressive

We have the first batch of download statistics for those of you who are interested in seeing how well Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 browser performed during it’s first few hours online. Did you download it, or do you love your current browser too much still?

It has been confirmed that Microsoft managed to achieve 2.35 million downloads in the first 24 hours of becoming available to download, as reported from Engadget. You may think that this number is pretty impressive for a day, but it’s nothing to what Mozilla achieved with Firefox back in 2008.

Microsoft is obviously proud of their 24 hour stats for Internet Explorer, even giving themselves a pat on the back with the words, ‘wow’. On the other hand, Mozilla can counter with their own ‘wow’ since Firefox 3 racked up 8 million downloads in 24 hours back in 2008 just to put things in perspective for you.

Is this a clear sign that Internet Explorer is firmly behind in the pecking order against the likes of Firefox, Chrome and Safari? Probably, but let’s wait and see how IE9 manages to perform over the weekend, since downloads are surely going to multiply over Saturday and Sunday.

Are you impressed by the 2.35 million download figure or not? Did you download IE9? Don’t forget to check out our IE9 problem thread here.

Crysis 2 Reviews on Xbox 360 and PS3 Don’t Disappoint

The highly anticipated shooter isn’t due out on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC until the end of this month, but there are already a few reviews for Crysis 2 which have been published online. Since there is still an emargo on the online reviews, these ones we have are taken from magazines.

First of all, you can rest assured if you were worrying that this game would be a flop, as both the Official Xbox Magazine and the Official PlayStation Magazine have given the game great scores, with OXM giving Crysis 2 a 9/10, and the OPM giving Crytek’s latest shooter an 8/10.

Official PlayStation Magazine included the following quotes, which have been provided courtesy of CVG: “excellent – technically strong, visually outstanding and full of welcome fresh ideas.”

Meanwhile, the Official Xbox Magazine has praised the multiplayer portion in the game, saying that it was the turning point in giving the game a good score, saying that gamers will enjoy ”some of the most exciting, angry and satisfying action you’ll ever have”.

Unfortunately, the only way you can read these reviews is by picking up a copy of either edition, but if some scans of the review get uploaded, we’ll let you know as soon as possible. Are you happy that this game has been praised after such a long development time? Are you now planning to pick up this game on launch or are you still worried about the gameplay after spending time with the beta and demo?

Crysis 2 looks like a solid addition to your collection from where we’re standing.

White iPhone 4 and 5 hints found in iTunes 10.2?

We have some interesting details to share with you now, as it has been revealed that various icons showing a Verizon White iPhone have been discovered in the latest version of iTunes 10.2, released by Apple a short while ago. What could this mean?

Images of the White iPhone have also been associated with AT&T along with Verizon, and it could mean a variety of things. It could back up the confirmation from Apple’s Phil Schiller that the White iPhone will be available sometime this Spring. He didn’t say which model though, but obviously we’re assuming he means the iPhone 4.

The guys over at BGR seem to think that these images could be hints which suggest that the iPhone 5 looks identical in appearance to the iPhone 4, and that Apple will have white versions of the device ready for release sometime this Summer. They also touch upon the fact that there could be no iPhone 5 release this year, which would be almost unthinkable in consumers eyes.

What do you think these images of the White iPhone found in iTunes 10.2 mean? Could this be the first real hint about a white iPhone 5, or do you think this is just related to a white iPhone 4 availability this Spring? We can’t wait to find out.

Full House Poker Review: Innovation for Xbox 360

Krome Studios' much-anticipated Full House Poker finally made its way onto Xbox Live Arcade yesterday, and that of course means that the first reviews have started to drift in. We thought we'd take a look at a few of the said reviews, just to see what the critics have to say.

Justin Calvert from the gamespot.com website gave the Full House Poker game an overall score of 7.5/10. This reviewer only noted one downside to the game, and that was the fact that the AI players are too quick to go all in. The list of positives on the other hand was quite impressive.

For example, Justin noted that the game has a lot of customization options to unlock, and good tutorials for both the poker and game mechanics. Justin also noted that the player's success is measured not only by the amount of chips they are holding, but by their experience level as well.

Rick Miller from wethegamerz.com gave the game a really impressive score of 9.5/10. As Rick noted, the Full House Poker game has loads of cool features. For example, players are able to jump into a table and play in the single-player mode, or jump into a multiplayer game and play with friends.

In the meantime, Richard Bassett from teamxbox.com gave the game an overall score of 7.7/10. According to Richard, the single player game is pretty easy to get going and the game provides you with plenty of choices on what and how to play. More options will become available once you start reaching new levels.

Have you played the Full House Poker game yet? If so, what are your first impressions?

Verizon iPhone 5: Motive for Action

Verizon iPhone 5: Motive for Action

There has been quite a lot of talk about the upcoming iPhone 5 recently and although a lot of it has been about possible features, specs and design, there has also been talk about the networks. For example, we brought you an article a few days ago, which looked at the potential of the Verizon iPhone 5.

According to beatweek.com, not only will the Verizon iPhone 5's release be the very first time that Verizon customers will be able to pick up a new generation iPhone from day one, but it will also be the first time that AT&T iPhone customers can jump to Verizon without having to replace their existing handset.

For iPhone customers on AT&T, moving over to Verizon for the iPhone 5 would be exactly the same hardware transition as staying with their existing network for the much-awaited handset. The beatweek.com article has pointed out a few factors that people should consider when deciding between AT&T and Verizon.

The first of course is the network in question. Both Verizon and AT&T customers would argue with each other all day about which network is the best. The bottom line really is which carrier is going to have the best signal, and the least amount of dead spots at home, work or favorite locations.

Another interesting factor is pricing. Both Verizon and AT&T are currently charging iPhone 4 users around the same amount each month for their plans and features, with some variations along the way. However, with the two carriers fighting for iPhone users' affections, this could all change with the iPhone 5.

Which carrier will you be going to for the iPhone 5, Verizon or AT&T?
