Red Light Camera Locations: Apps for UK, USA, and more

Driving a motor vehicle these days is getting more expensive with the price of fuel always going up. Another unwelcome cost can be getting caught out at red light camera locations, or getting a nasty fine for being slightly over the speed limit past a speed camera. But there are ways to get pre-warned of their location thanks to mobile applications.

iSpeedCam USA covers various types of traffic cameras and has Google Map integration when you have an internet connection. It works with metric and imperial speed limits, and has a fully editable speed camera database. This is available on the App Store for $0.99/£0.59.

iSpeedCam UK is basically the same application but covering the United Kingdom. Users get alerts for fixed camera and police hotspots, and red light cameras are also covered. The app allows users to track statistics, and cameras can easily be added or disabled with one touch. You can also find this on the App Store for $0.99/£0.59.

If you drive to many places around the world there is a version of the application which has worldwide coverage. This version costs $2.99/£1.79 on the App Store. iSpeedCam has various local versions available on the App Store.

HTC Thunderbolt owners dream of iPhone 5 Release

HTC Thunderbolt owners dream of iPhone 5 Release

The competition in today's phone market means that any big release needs a lot of hype built around it, and the HTC Thunderbolt had just that with delays in it's release date, and touted as the 4G phone to own. Now the device is released, did it disappoint or satisfy?

On the official HTC website they claim the HTC Thunderbolt is the phone after your dream phone, it's apparently really that good, according to the makers. Shortly after the launch we saw some tests by review websites, and users that show different results with the battery life. These seem to depend on how you have the 4G settings, but most reports we've heard point to bad battery life, and that's according to the owners themselves.

One of PR's readers said that the HTC Thunderbolt battery life is so bad that they're considering buying an iPhone 4 after paying the "$35 re-stocking fee", after which they plan to buy an iPhone 5 if that lives up to their expectations. This does seem a bit extreme, although they are not the only user thinking about paying this fee and moving to another device.

Maybe HTC should've included the 2750 mAh battery with the Thunderbolt, rather than offer it as an extra that most users will need anyway. We're sure that there are some happy HTC Thunderbolt owners, which are not dreaming of the iPhone 5 release, are you one of these? How has your battery life been?

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Specs and Price: Turning Point

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Specs and Price: Turning Point

We recently reported to you about Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini's new offering, the Aventador LP700-4. Today we have some more of their magic to show you with their Sesto Elemento.

The carbon based exotica was first seen at last year's Paris Motor Show, and many felt wrongly that it could be the replacement for the Murcielago LP640, according to an article by James Edwards of Insideline. It is powered by a V10 engine pushing out 570 hp, but because it is made from almost entirely carbon fiber it will reach 62mph in only 2.5 seconds.

It also has a top speed of over 200mph, and its performance is mainly down to its weight, which is only 999kg. The front end of the bodywork has been made from just one piece of carbon fiber, and even the exhaust and suspension are made from the material.

TopSpeed have a Lamborghini press release about the car, and are reporting that the Sesto Elemento will go into production as a track only special unfortunately. According to a report by Automotive News only 5 to 10 will be built, and could cost you a cool $3,500,000.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has recently suggested the Estoque four door model is getting closer to production, according to a recent article on Insideline. They also have the Sant’Agata in the pipelines as the replacement for the Gallardo, and there is speculation of an entry level Lamborghini which could be called the Cabrera. There has been talk of the Aventador model line to eventually have Super Veloce and Spyder variants.

HTC Thunderbolt’s Best Price Online – $174.99?

HTC Thunderbolt’s Best Price Online – $174.99?

Remember how we were getting excited about that Amazon deal for the HTC Thunderbolt, in which the online retailer were offering $179.99 for it on contract? Well it appears that another retailer has stepped up to the plate by dropping the price even FURTHER.

The retailer in question is LetsTalk, and our anonymous tipster has told us that they will be offering the HTC Thunderbolt on any contract deal for just $174.99. The deal will start at 12:01 AM PDT Saturday March 19, ie very soon!

If you head to their HTC Thunderbolt product listing here, you’ll see that the price is still listed at $199.99 on contract, but don’t worry – this will be reduced to the $174.99 when the clock ticks past twelve, so make sure you’re ready. This is obviously the best price for the handset yet, and it’s definitely going to take some beating from other retailers.

Will anyone else step up to the plate, or has LetsTalk provided an unbeatable deal? The Thunderbolt is currently in stock on their website now, but we have a feeling they are going to get hammered once their promotion starts.

For those of you who have already purchased a Thunderbolt at full price ($249.99), let us know your thoughts on this – feeling slightly bemused at the crazy price drops taking place?

HTC Thunderbolt: Speed Test – Are you getting 4G LTE Speeds?

Now that the HTC Thunderbolt is available to buy both in-store and online, we want to know your impressions of the device, with specific reference to the 4G LTE speeds that Verzion are touting with the device. Have you managed to get a solid connection to 4G LTE, or are you having problems?

Earlier on this week, we mentioned in a previous article that Verizon were promising 4G LTE speeds of up to 5-12Mbps downstream, and 2-5Mbps upstream, but how many of you have actually managed to achieve such figures on your device?

If you are currently situated in a 4G LTE area, you can check right now what speeds you are getting at the moment by downloading the SpeedTest app on your mobile from the Android Market – it’s essentially the same service as the popular one you see at speedtest.net online.

It will be interesting to see just how many of you are getting close to the speeds that Verizon advertised, and we’re pretty sure that in some cases, the speed you manage to get on your device is actually faster than that of your home broadband!

Are you impressed with the 4G LTE network speeds that you’re getting, or have you been left disappointed after so much promise? Let us know how fast your handset is.

Nintendo 3DS review before release

Nintendo 3DS review before release

Next week see's the Nintendo 3DS launching in Europe, and then a couple of days later in the US. As we have been hearing about more games which will be available for the device, we have an early review of the 3DS for you.

Jeff Bakalar from Cnet has written an early hands on review after spending some time using the 3DS. Performance wise it worked quite quickly with games only taking a few seconds to load, but some original DS games took longer to load on the 3DS than other DS systems.

Battery life is understandably not as good as older DS consoles with around 3 to 5 hours depending on screen brightness, and it takes around three and half hours to fully charge the battery. The included charging dock was really liked for its ease of use.

Using the 3D mode the reviewers never felt any sickness, but did get the occasional headaches after using for a prolonged period, and you can always turn the 3D mode off. It was found that the 3D effect can suddenly snap out of sync, as there seems to be a sensitive viewing angle for it work.

Games that required a lot of button pushing like Super Street Fighter IV: 3D or moving the console itself the problem was found to be worse. It was concluded that while the 3DS is Nintendo's most expensive handheld console to date, the future looks bright.

Even though the launch lineup is not as strong as it could be, there is still plenty of fun to have with the installed software. One cloud on the horizon is the upcoming Sony NGP later in the year, but if early pre-order figures are anything to go by, it will sell by the bucket load. Use the link provided to read the full detailed review.

Will you be getting the 3DS?

Social Networking Stats at South By Southwest 2011

Social Networking Stats at South By Southwest 2011

Some interesting social networking statistics have recently been revealed when analysts studied all of the #SXSW tweets which occurred earlier this month, these stats looked at three main categories which are: mobile platforms, group messaging and check-ins.

According to the charts and statistics posted on DigitalTrends 60% of tweets mentioning #SXSW were made by iPhones, 14% were made by iPads, 14% were made by Android devices, 12% were made by BlackBerry smartphones and just 1% were made by Windows Phone devices.

In terms of the Check-In War Foursquare made up for 65% of the #SXSW Twitter mentions whilst Gowalla was responsible for 22% of the mentions whilst SCVNGR and Whrrl accounted for 12% and 7% respectively.

Finally when looking at Group Messaging GroupMe was the most popular solution with 65% of the Twitter mentions whilst Beluga, Kik and Fast Society accounted for 22%, 10% and 3% respectively.

These stats show that iOS-based devices are responsible for a massive percentage of mobile Tweets, however we have to remember that the type of people who would tweet the SXSW hashtag are probably the same people who queue up for iPads and iPhone upon launch, that said I was quite surprised to see Android accounting for just 12% of the #SXSW Twitter mentions.

All of the statistics above were based on 315,000 #SXSW Tweets which were tweeted between 11th March and 15th March 2011, do any of the statistics surprised you? Let us know in the comments section below.

3D bunny image created by researchers using three projectors and fog

3D bunny image created by researchers using three projectors and fog

With the way television technology is going it seems that the next step in visual graphics would be the projection of a hologram or an actual 3D object with 360 degree viewing angles. Let's not get carried away though, it was only yesterday that we brought you news of Samsung's glasses free 3D LCD TV.

Holograms are something you only expect to see in sci-fi movies right? Well apparently not anymore it seems. With the aid of some fog and three Pico projectors a group of students from the Osaka University were able to create the effect of a hologram with a 3D image being projected on the amongst the fog.

Although Fog Projectors have been around for years the technology is fairly restricted and only 2D images are capable of being projected at one time. This is why when three projectors are used at once showing three different angles of the same image the illusion of a 3D object is created. The news comes from an article at DigiInfo TV.

In the article it explains that the fog is concentrated to one area and the three projected images also focus on the same area. The fog then acts as a parallax barrier so whatever angle you look at the image you are only seeing one angle at a time. If the number of images being projected was increased the illusion would be even more effective.

Check out the video we have below of the image being projected. What do you think of this use of fog projecting? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

How iPad 3 Rumors stop iPad 2 Sales

How iPad 3 Rumors stop iPad 2 Sales

A recent article posted by Maddy Rowe on OnlineSocialMedia.net talks about what features we may see when the iPad 3 is unveiled, this seems to have sparked a debate where people are saying that they will wait for the iPad 3 rather than buy the iPad 2.

Rumors have been suggesting that Apple will release an iPad 3 in late 2011, obviously these rumors could turn out to be inaccurate, however they seem to have been enough to scare some people of the iPad 2, let’s face it who will want to buy the iPad 2 if an iPad 3 is released later this year with more advanced specs including a higher-resolution camera and a retina display?

Comments on OSM’s article suggest that despite the iPad 2 being a vast improvement over the original iPad it is not enough to convince some Apple fans, they would rather wait until late 2011 for iPad 3 and if nothings shows up they will wait until March 2012 which is when many believe Apple will reveal the next-gen iPad.

We are currently skeptical about another iPad release in 2011, this is because Apple tend to roll out product updates annually (we have seen this with the iPhone and iPod Touch), however we can also see how the iPad 2 may struggle to compete with some of their competitive products which boast much better camera resolutions, 3D capabilities and 4G connectivity. Will Apple rush out an iPad 3 to stay competitive or will they stay patient and release the iPad 3 in 2011? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

We would also love to hear whether the iPad 3′s 2011 release rumors have put you off buying the iPad 2, if it has let us know what you expect from the next-gen iPad?

Top Spin 4: IGN Review – Best Tennis Game Ever

IGN recently got their hands on Top Spin 4, in their review they scored the game 8.5 out of 10 and say that it comes closer to capturing the real essence of the sport than any game has ever done before.

You can see their fully detailed review here, in our article we will raise some of the main points raised and tell you why it got such a high rating, much higher than we have ever seen from any other Top Spin game before.

If you read IGN reviews previously you will know that they calculate their reviews by taking into account five aspects, these are presentation, graphics, sound, gameplay and lasting appeal, it seems as if gameplay stole the show as they gave this aspect of the game 9/10.

In terms of presentation, graphics, sound and lasting appeal IGN were very happy with Top Spin 4, apparently sounds and graphics are realistic and the multiplayer modes will help the games longevity.

The game’s career mode is said to very extensive and you really see your player progress as you get further through the game, also the player creation tool is pretty impressive. As for controls you will probably start off thinking you have been thrown in at the deep end, however the game’s Top Spin Academy allows you to get to grips with the new system, after a while the controls will become second nature to you.

If you are considering purchasing Top Spin 4 we highly recommend checking out IGN’s fully detailed review, the game is PlayStation Move compatible, however at the time of this post we have no insight as to whether this is good or not.

Will you buy Top Spin 4?

RSA Security Warning after Sophisticated Cyberattack

RSA Security Warning after Sophisticated Cyberattack

RSA – the security division of EMC Corporation – has recently warned its customers that their data could well be at risk, after the company suffered what they described as an 'extremely sophisticated cyberattack.' RSA said that they are currently working with the authorities and investigating the attack.

As Emma Woollacott over at tgdaily.com noted, RSA's multifactor authentification security system – which is used by around 25,000 organizations inlcuding government agencies and the military – involves the usage of SecurID electronic tokens, which create a time-based number for people to use alongside their passwords.

The company's executive chairman Art Coviello said that they are confident that the information that was taken would not allow a successful direct attack on any of its SecurID customers. However, Art said that the stolen data could potentially be used as part of a broader attack.

Coviello pointed out that the company do not believe that either employee or customer personally identifiable information was compromised as a result of the recent attack, which seems to be an Advanced Persistent Threat of the type that attacked Google back in 2009.

There appear to be fears that the stolen data could well inlcude source code that reveals vulnerabilities in the security system or the seed codes for clients, which would then enable the attacker to create the time-based code to allow them access to client systems.

Are you an RSA SecurID customer?
