| FaceTime and 3G Issues on iPad Fixed by iOS 4.3.2 Posted: 15 Apr 2011 10:09 PM PDT
The new update, dubbed iOS 4.3.2, fixes some issues experienced by users during FaceTime calls, such as frozen videos, or random pictures displayed by the app. As for the 3G version of the iPad 1/2, the update will help users to connect to 3G networks faster, especially when traveling abroad. The update, compatible with both first generation iPad and iPad 2, as well as iPhone 3GS/4 and third/fourth generation iPod touch, also includes security updates, and should improve the battery life of iOS devices. iOS 4.3.2 was released less than a month after the launch of iOS 4.3.1. The previous update brought a slew of fixes, including graphics and AV output improvements, memory management improvements, new authentication methods, springboard and gyroscope improvements on the iPad 2, and 3G activation improvements. The update is available via the iTunes Software Update feature. Direct links are also available: » Related posts:

| Fox, Discovery Agree to Add Channels Back to Time Warner’s iPad App Posted: 15 Apr 2011 09:59 PM PDT
Everything resulted in cease-and-desist letters sent to TWC demanding the removal of specific channels. After all that trouble, the cable company has announced that Fox and Discovery have rejoined the iPad TV lineup once again. TWC has posted on its site some good news for iPad fans. Their iPad streaming application has added once again the following channels from Fox – National Geographic Channel, FX, Fox News Channel. In addition, TWC has reported that Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet have joined their lineup, as well as Military History, Lifetime Real Women, Sundance Central, and Wedding Central. With all the recent additions, TWC now brings over 50 channels via their iPad streaming application. The number of channels depend on your market and your cable subscription package. However, Viacom and TWC are still disputing the rights of streaming content via the iPad application. TWC has clearly stated they have the rights to stream content because its cable broadcast rights give it inherent rights. This dispute will be settled on court. Let’s hope both sides reach a friendly agreement soon. It is time for everyone in the industry to show leadership, and become more innovative by exploring new business models and distribution methods. » Related posts:

| Still Looking for an iPad 2? Head to Best Buy This Weekend Posted: 15 Apr 2011 09:57 PM PDT
Despite the planned ad this weekend, it clearly sounds like Best Buy anticipates inventory shortages and the memo even provides employees with “Keys to minimize customers disappoints.” With all the frustration surrounding iPad 2 inventory, it’s hard to believe consumers won’t be disappointed by yet another shortage. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what the weekend brings! [Photo: Engadget]

| 80,000 iPad Apps Now Available in Apple’s App Store Posted: 15 Apr 2011 07:42 PM PDT Apple's iPad ecosystem hit another app milestone today as the number of dedicated iPad apps available in the App Store passed the 80,000 mark earlier this morning. Previously, Apple hit the 70,000 app mark in March shortly after they unveiled the iPad 2. The iPad app ecosystem has grown at an impressive rate over the past year. It was just over a year ago that the original iPad launched with only 3,000 apps. Since then, Apple has added an average of 6,000+ apps per month and the addition of new apps has shown no signs of slowing down. Apple originally broke the 10,000 iPad apps mark in June, 70 days after the launch of the iPad on April 3.
With over 80,000 iPad apps now available, the iPad is one of the fastest growing mobile application ecosystems. The iPad app store is currently the third largest mobile apps platform behind iPhone and Android. If you combine all iOS apps, there are roughly twice as many iOS apps as there are Android apps. *Data from the PadGadget Apps Tracker and Apple App Store. » Related posts:

| iCade iPad Arcade Cabinet Receives FCC Approval Posted: 15 Apr 2011 08:07 AM PDT Still remember the iCade? Well, it’s almost here. What started as an April Fools joke in 2010 by ThinkGeek, gained a lot of popularity by the gaming community, and now the gaming cabinet has moved forward as a formal product. The iCade was a hot item during this year’s CES. Wireless Goodness has reported that Ion Audio’s iCade arcade cabinet for the iPad has passed FCC approval. Now that Atari-based games are available for the iPad, all retro gamers out there will be quite happy to know that the new compilation of classic games will make it look like you’re going back to the arcade days. Should be quite fun. The iCade cabinet has a planned release date of May 31, and it should set you back $99.99, but it will turn your iPad into a mini arcade system. The cabinet comes with a joystick and 8 buttons. To use the iCade, iPad owners will only need to slide their device into the cabinet's cradle – the iCade uses Bluetooth to connect to the iPad, so connectivity should be very straightforward. » Related posts:

| Bug Heroes for iPad and iPhone – Game Review Posted: 15 Apr 2011 05:00 AM PDT
After you hastily download this amazing looking game and open it as fast as your fingers will allow, you realize instantly that it is going to be a good day. The menu screen alone comes with impressive graphics and once you wipe the drool off your face it's time to start playing. At the top of the menu is "adventure" mode, where players advance through waves of enemies. When you first start your adventure (I'd suggest in Easy Mode) you find yourself in a kitchen setting with only one playable character known simply as: “Ant.” The tutorial brings you right up to speed on the controls and shortly afterward, the storyline. Beetle is the first character Ant befriends and the fearsome pair's specialties are explained in detail. Now we meet Spider, the third and final free character. Players are eased into all aspects of the game, but don't let the slow start fool you, the game gets much harder very quickly. The second way to play is called "Coliseum,” where only one player is selected and a gladiator-type death match ensues. In this mode, it is much easier to buy all the upgrades for your selected character, so it is a good way to familiarize yourself with all the ins and outs of their abilities. Also, if you really get into the game, you have the ability to buy extra characters that are more powerful than the original three. Awards, achievements, and scores can all be posted to the Game Center to compare yourself to all the other gamers and give you another reason to keep playing this exceedingly fun game (not that you needed one). What I liked: The graphics are stunning, especially for a free game. The numerous combinations of upgrades leave room for hours of game play, and although it may take a few tries to get the right grouping the game gets really fun when you figure it out. The auto-save feature lets you exit the app at any time and come back right where you left off. What I didn’t like: The fact that all the extra characters cost money. I couldn't figure out the purpose of "points" in the game, but maybe they should be used to buy the extra characters. To buy or not to buy: Since the game is currently free, I would go so far as to say delete one of the apps already taking up space on your iPad and make this your game of choice.
