| Enterprise Resource Planning: To Legacy, or Not to Legacy? Asks To-Increase Posted: 11 Mar 2011 04:34 AM PST Norwell, MA, March 11, 2011 –(PR.com)– To-Increase, a provider of Microsoft Dynamics solutions for discrete and industrial equipment manufacturing, comments on new survey data indicating that a majority of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) customers plan zero or minimal investments in system upgrades in 2011. ‘Enterprise Resource Planning: To Legacy, or Not To Legacy,’ a newly published blog post by author and To-Increase Global Industry Director Luciano Cunha, opens with results from a Forrester survey indicating that 72% of ERP customers have no plans to invest in upgrades in the near future. Citing a recent quote from Geoffrey Moore, by way of Manufacturing Executive’s Jeff Moad, a fairly succinct reason is offered for this lack of planned ERP investment: “ERP is like building the Interstate Highway System. It’s done. Time to move on. Enough is enough.” "On the surface, Moore’s analogy describing a company’s decision not to invest in ERP is easily digestible, and seems to make logical sense," comments Cunha. "Of course, this analogy only makes sense as a proof point until we decide to break it down to its most literal components." Much like an Interstate Highway may be completed, but will always have room for repair, a fully installed and implemented ERP system will always feature room for improvements. "As an ERP system evolves, its latest release and applications offer significantly better capabilities than when they were first installed at a client site," continues Cunha. "This is true even if installation was completed as recently as one year ago." Among the recent ERP improvements Cunha mentions in this post: -Enhanced ability to integrate with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) "Most ERP upgrades are available from vendors at minimal cost outlays, making the decision not to invest remarkably counter-intuitive," concludes Cunha. "While my post was not meant to embarrass readers, the fact is that upgrading ERP is a strategy far friendlier to innovation and the bottom-line than more than 70% of companies realize."
