Fans Going Crazy with iPad2

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 04:43 PM PST

Tons of fans continue to hit Apple stores. Lines continue to hold strong. Demand for the iPad 2 has been incredibly high.

At this stage, all AT&T models are completely sold out in our location (Plano, Texas). Inventory of the WiFi-only iPad 2 is running low, and many folks currently in line will likely come back home without an iPad 2 tonight.

iPad 2: Apple Stores Almost Out Of Stock

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 04:17 PM PST

Demand for the iPad 2 seems incredibly high, as in less than an hour, most of the Apple Store located in the Dallas / Fort-Worth Metroplex are already almost out of stock.

At this stage, all models of the WiFi + 3G iPad (at&t) are completely sold out, while Verizon-compatible iPad 2s can still be purchased. Stocks of WiFi-only iPad 2s are running low, and many folks currently in line will likely come back home without an iPad 2 tonight.

As stressed earlier, the vast majority of folks are first time buyers, which seems to imply that an impressive amount of people have been waiting for the iPad 2 to be released to purchase their first tablet.

Tipsters across the nation also confirmed that inventories are running low, and that some models are already unavailable at most Apple retail stores.

PadGadget Team in Action!

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 03:12 PM PST

As we promised earlier this week, the PadGadget team has been interacting with our fans this afternoon. Everyone is eagerly awaiting for the iPad 2. Lots of people waiting for their new tablet.

After a quick poll, there seems to be around 1,000 people in line at the Willow Bend Mall in Plano, Texas.

As promised, we handed out PadGadget t-shirts, iPad accessories and more. We will continue to work hard for all of our fans and will keep reporting about your favorite tablet.

Thanks for your support throughout the last year!

Editor’s Note: A small tidbit. Over 50% of the people we’ve talked to are first time iPad buyers. Quite impressive for Apple’s new iPad. I have the feeling iPad 2 will sell a lot of units this weekend.

Momentum Building Up for iPad 2

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 01:43 PM PST

PadGadget is at the Willowbend Mall Apple Store in Plano, Texas. Momentum is already building up.

With all the iPad 2 shipping estimates slipping from 2 to 3 weeks, it is not surprising to see that many people already in line.

We’ve heard from multiple sources that long lines at Apple retail stores across the nation are very long. As expected, it seems that Apple stores are experiencing large crowds. However, other retailers such as Best Buy and Target are not seeing the same amount of people.

Hold tight. The iPad 2 official launch is just 90 minutes away!

New and Updated Games Already Showing for iPad 2

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 08:08 AM PST

The iPad 2 fever is on. Some of our readers have already confirmed ordering the iPad 2 online. It seems that shipping times have quickly changed from the initial 3 to 5 business days. Some people have reported times from 5 to 7 business days, while Apple is now reporting shipping times from 2 to 3 weeks.

Game developers have wasted no time either. Some very popular iOS games have already crowded the App Store with new features specifically designed for iPad 2.

We received word from Firemint about their new Real Racing 2 HD game. Firemint specifically optimized this new exciting racing experience for the first generation iPad and the iPad 2. I have to say the game looks visually astounding on the first generation iPad. I can imagine the driving experience will be fantastic on the iPad 2 considering the two powerful cores and the 9x faster graphics. The game is ready for download on the App Store and will set you back $9.99.

Epic Games updated their impressive Infinity Blade game. The new update includes multiple character slots, new achievements, more leaderboards, and a dodge button size slider. However, the biggest update is the optimization for iPad 2, which includes high-resolution graphics that utilize the enhanced visual capabilities of the new iPad. The game is available for download for $5.99.

Finally, Electronic Arts updated their very popular iOS game Dead Space, which also includes enhanced graphics for iPad 2. You can download the game for $6.99.

iOS 4.3 Update Makes In-App Purchases More Secured

Posted: 11 Mar 2011 07:07 AM PST

A few months ago, we talked about the Smurfs Village application, which created quite the spectacle. The FREE app has been highly ranked for quite a while, and it quickly became one of the highest grossing apps in the App Store. You might be asking yourself how a FREE app could become one of the highest grossing? Simple, in-app purchases!

While many free apps for kids seem perfectly harmless at first glance, beware, as many of them could lead to surprising unexpected fees. That is one of the areas that iOS 4.3 is trying to fix with the latest software update.

With the new iOS 4.3 software update, Apple has included a slight modification to their in-app purchase policy in the form of a password reentry. The previous iOS versions did prompt you for your iTunes password before making in-app purchases, but a 15-minute period was given to you after downloads in which subsequent in-app purchases could be made without having to reenter your password. This is what led to the major issues with the in-app purchases process because a few children spent hundreds of dollars on their parents credit cards by purchasing “Smurfberries” to speed up the growth of their crops and villages.

Keep in mind that Apple does offer ways for you to block in-app purchases. Simply turn off in-app purchases in your Settings, by tapping Settings and then selecting General from the list on the left. From there you can tap Restrictions and then turn In-App Purchases OFF.

If by any chance you forget to turn off the in-app purchases on your device, the new iOS 4.3 has added an extra step when attempting to approve in-app purchases. In addition to a password being required to purchase an app on the App Store, a reentry of your password is now required when making an in-app purchase.

A word of advice. Don’t give your password to your children, or anyone else. Even with the new password reentry process, other folks can still rack up hundreds of dollars on your credit card without even knowing.
