StoryChimes iPhone/iPad App Posted: 27 Feb 2011 01:00 PM PST  iPad App Review-The iPad has quickly become my favorite way to read books and I have an affinity for kids books, probably due to the fact I am a father. The iPad app “I Saw Wild Parrots in New York City! StoryChimes by Sienna Entertainment & Wiggles Press is a fun, interesting, graphically pleasant kid’s app. This iPad book is a story about yes, you guessed it wild parrots loose in New York City. Having recently visited New York city for the first time I can ensure you I did not see any wild parrots while there. I saw some wild things, wild people, maybe even a few wild flowers, but no wild parrots. The story is whimsical, original art work graphics are excellent and the user interface is easy to figure out. All the necessary navigational tabs come from the bottom of the app and there is an information icon int the upper right that will pull up the options. The information icon is available throughout the story, but the main navigation bar disappears once the user starts the story. I Saw Wild Parrots in New York City! StoryChimes is a great book for kids, especially kids just learning to read. CM

| Starfront Collision: Full-Featured RTS -iPhone App (FREE) Posted: 27 Feb 2011 10:00 AM PST  iPhone App Review– The AppStore is definitely not known for its Real-Time Strategy games, but Starfront: Collision meets and exceeds the normal standards of a mobile RTS title. As many know, Gameloft is notorious for developing games that look and feel almost exactly like other smash-hit games for different gaming consoles. Starfront: Collision is no different. The game is clearly modeled after Starcraft (which is a PC game). I am not opposed to this; in fact, I find it neat to be able to turn on my iPod and have something very similar to Starcraft waiting to be played. The game features three different factions for you to choose from, and each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, all three factions are balanced. This is crucial to an RTS, and Gameloft has nailed this perfectly. The different sci-fi environments look gorgeous on a retina display, and the sounds hold up very well too. Each faction can build 8 unique structures which are needed for creating units and gathering resources. Of course, each race can create different units, each with their own specialties. If you are someone new to RTS games, this app provides a decent tutorial, and doesn't have a steep learning curve. The point of the game is to gather resources, use them efficiently by building different structures, and using the structures to build an army to take down the other players. The game plays very smooth and the controls are intuitive and work well. The online multiplayer works very well with this game too. It is connected via Gameloft Live and you can go head to head against your friends, or you can join a 4 player match with random people. Either way, it is a lot of fun to play against real people after you have beaten the campaign mode. This app is a must have for any RTS lover. iPhone App DetailsTitle: Starfront: Collision

| Fun Balloon Game Play-Float iPhone App Posted: 27 Feb 2011 06:06 AM PST  iPhone App Review-We have all played with a balloon in our lifetime, tapping it up in the air and watching it float down to tap it up in the air again. Crawl Space Games took that feeling and put it into an iPhone app called appropriately enough “Float.” This is a fun casual pick up & play game that tasks the user with keeping balloons from popping on the jagged metal spikes at the bottom of the screen by tapping the iPhone screen to keep them in the air. There are several different worlds to play this game in, some require in app purchase and some are free. Float has a couple of different game modes and is OpenFeint enabled for online leader boards and achievements. The developers are continuing to expand on this game platform by developing new “Float” game worlds, which apparently will be FREE of cost.
