We Dare: Nintendo Wii / PS3 Game Causes Uproar – No US Release

We Dare: Nintendo Wii / PS3 Game Causes Uproar – No US Release

A new Ubisoft party game that's due to be released on the Nintendo Wii and PS3 later this year appears to have caused a bit of an uproar recently, following the release of the game's "startlingly sexual" trailer. In fact, the teaser trailer for We Dare has left many parents outraged.

According to a recent article by Tim Ingham over at computerandvideogames.com, the teaser trailer shows two couples taking part in what appears to be a bit of partner-swapping titillation, while playing some of the mini-games included in the "flirty" We Dare title.

After watching the said trailer (which can be seen via the CVG link here), it may come as a surprise that the game has been given a PEGI 12+ rating. Since the We Dare's trailer was released, parents have been showing their outrage by commenting on both the game and its trailer.

The Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph have quoted one mother as saying that she would be appalled if she found out her 13-year old daughter was playing such a game with boys. Another father said that games like We Dare only serve to fuel sexual tension amongst teenagers.

There already appears to be one country that won't be selling the controversial We Dare game, but will any other countries follow suit? As Matthew Reynolds over at digitalspy.co.uk reports, Ubisoft has just announced that the We Dare game will not be available for purchase in the US.

You can read more about the game via the official ubi.com website. Do you think Ubisoft has gone too far with the We Dare game? Feel free to let us know your opinion on the game and its trailer.

Fujitsu Wireless Display to be unveiled at CeBit 2011

Fujitsu Wireless Display to be unveiled at CeBit 2011

The Japanese IT and computer hardware company are preparing for the CeBIT 2011 event in Hanover this week and will be unveiling their new 22" wireless PC display. They are claiming it is the first 'truly wireless display' this means it doesn't even have a power cable and will showcase the device as well as the other products they plan on bringing to the event.

It works by using both an inductive power system that uses Smart Universal Power Access (SUPA) and cable free wireless data. Developed with The Fraunhofer Institute, SUPA hotspots that are built into office panels, countertops and desks use magneto-induction transmitter antennas. These allow for 'park and play' with the displays, similar to how an electric toothbrush would work.

Fujitsu will also be showing off their STYLISTIC Q550 Business Class Slate PC and the new ISV Cloud Program at the CeBIT event. The keyboard free slate PC has a 10.1" display and is designed to meet even the most strict business and government IT security requirements.

You can find out more about these devices by visiting the Fujitsu website or you can check out the article about their CeBIT launces over at ITP.net. What do you think of the wireless display and Fujitsu's other new products? Let us know down below.

VAIO C and Samsung 9 Series Hit by a Thunderbolt

VAIO C and Samsung 9 Series Hit by a Thunderbolt

A few days ago we discussed two new devices that were set to take on the MacBook Pro and the Air, those were the Sony VAIO C Series and the Samsung 9 Series. However, both of these laptops have been hit by a Thunderbolt – well with the new 2011 version of Apple's notebook.

The new VAIO device has a 14-inch screen and judging by the specs and design its intended target was clearly the Pro. However, Sony did not count on Apple teaming up with Intel for a new connection type that not only makes the current USB 2.0 look like a snail, but also USB 3.0 as well. It is not all bad, as Sony has included 3D TV Plus technology, which does fit in with the company's plan to make 3D a big deal over the next few years.

The Samsung 9 Series is just like the MacBook Air rather than the pro, as there will be an 11-inch and 13-inch version. However, Samsung may have also not figured on the future Air model getting Thunderbolt. There is no reason why Apple will not use this new connection type in more of their other upcoming devices, such as the iPad 2.

Currently there are no supporting peripherals for Thunderbolt, so this could prove a non-issue at the moment. We would expect to see a number of these coming over the next few months, but the worrying thing is how slow USB 3.0 support has been.

Do you think that the new VAIO and Samsung 9 Series will be able to compete with these new Thunderbolt notebooks?

New SeaMicro servers with Intel’s Atom N570 dual-core processors

New SeaMicro servers with Intel’s Atom N570 dual-core processors

SeaMicro recently announced a new low-power server the SM10000-64, this server features 512 x Intel Atom N570 1.66GHz processors which combined equates to roughly 850GHz of processing power.

Let’s start with power consumption, according to PCWorld.com the 512 Atoms will provide better performance-per-watt than an Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron-based servers, apparently it is targeted towards data centers which deal with e-mail, social networking and search, the Atom chips allow for quick processing of small amounts of data, whereas Xeon and Opeteron CPUs are suited to more intensive tasks.

It is thought that this server consumers 15-17% less power than its predecessor (the SM10000 server), also the last server only supported 32-bit software and had a 2GB addressable memory ceiling, whereas the SM10000-64 supports 64-bit software and has a 4GB ceiling.

The server supports up to 1TB of DDR3 RAM and allows for up to 64 hard drives / solid-state drives, it is 17.5 inch tall, which equates to 10 server racks. If you are really interested in SeaMicro’s new server check out the official website for detailed specifications and an overview.

As you would probably expect this server is not cheap, prices start at $148,000, but just remember you are saving roughly 17% on power consumption costs, I wonder if other server manufacturers will begin to utilize high-numbers of Atom CPUs.

Torchlight: Xbox 360 Game to Feature New Perks and Content

When Runic Games announced that they would be releasing a console version of their popular action role-playing game Torchlight, they confirmed that they would only be releasing it for the Xbox 360 and unfortunately, not on the PlayStation 3.

However, as we previously mentioned in our article here, Travis Baldtree – the boss of Runic Games – claimed that the Xbox 360 version would feature quite a few differences to the original PC release, such as a faster combat pace that feels more maneuverable.

Now we are hearing a few more details about the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade release, including the fact that it will feature new perks and content. According to Ishaan over at siliconera.com, the XBLA version of Torchlight comes with new armor sets and weapons and even more quests.

The console version will also reward Xbox 360 gamers with specific perks for fulfilling different criteria. For example if players want the chance to earn an early re-spec potion, they just have to invite a friend to play the Torchlight game. If the friend accepts the invite, they will also receive the potion.

Another perk that will be available for the first two weeks following the game's release is the Ogre Fish item, which turns your pet into an Ogre indefinitely. What do you think of the new perks, changes and content for the XBLA version of Torchlight? Will it tempt you to download the game?

You can view a trailer for the Xbox 360 version via the YouTube link here.

MTM Audi R8 BiTurbo & TT RS: Geneva Premieres

MTM Audi R8 BiTurbo & TT RS: Geneva Premieres

With just a few days to go until the start of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, we are very excited about the prospect of the MTM Audi R8 BiTurbo and the Audi TT RS. If you thought the standard versions of these cars were good, then you wait until you see what the German tuning company has done with them. We are lost for words; all we can say is awesome.

According to the press release, which was sent to Autoblog, the R8 BiTurbo has lost all of its paint, and then been highly polished; a process that took more than 700 hours to do – now that's commitment. However, looking at the images of this thing we have to say that it was well worth the effort.

MTM were not happy with the already insanely fast R8, so thought that twin-turbochargers were needed. The coupe is now tuned to produce 777 horsepower, which is enough to propel the MTM Audi R8 to 217mph. This is not fast when you look at the Veyron, but at a fraction of the price it truly is an amazing achievement.

If you want something a little less in your face, then the Audi TT RS from MTM is another coupe to consider. This one still has all its paint and offers a 472hp engine. This car, which will be on show in just a few days will reach speeds of 195mph – would you have ever thought that an Audi TT would ever hit just under 200mph?

Vodafone UK: Service down today

If you are a Vodafone customer in the UK and have been experiencing problems with your signal, we can report that the network has suffered an outage in certain parts of the country.

TechRadar's Gareth Beavis is reporting the company told them that damage to equipment has resulted in certain customers suffering a loss of internet, SMS, and voice services. No customer data is at risk according to Vodafone. The company said they are "working quickly" to get the service back to normal.

With customers personal data they added that there had "been no impact". Vodafone have not said whether the damage was caused by an act of vandalism or malfunctioning equipment, but reaffirmed normal service will quickly be resumed.

Networks for all the carriers have had some sort of problem recently, as the big increase in mobile data usage has put a strain on systems which have led to slow data delivery or outages.

But Eddie van der Walt over at Newbury Today is reporting that the outage was caused by a break in at its Basingstoke centre late last night. Equipment was stolen and a large part of the south west and south east were experiencing no service. The outage has affected some customers while others have no issues even in the same area. This depends on individual customer's contract and number instead of geographic areas.

Have you lost your Vodafone service?

HTC Droid Incredible 2: Release on Verizon In 2011?

Earlier on, we mentioned that HTC were planning to bring the Windows Phone 7 powered HTC Trophy smartphone to Verizon at some point during the year, but now we have exciting details for all of you Droid Incredible fans out there.

If you were watching the collection of handset reveals at Mobile World Congress, you were probably as disappointed as we were with the unveiling of the HTC Incredible S – a minor refresh to the popular Droid Incredible with pretty average hardware specs. You can find out what the handset offers in our previous report here.

That was before though, and now an image supposedly taken from Verizon’s internal database has revealed that another ‘Incredible’ handset is on the way – You can see the image over at AndroidandMe here.

We’re hoping that this is indeed the ‘true’ successor to the Droid Incredible, and it will come with second generation hardware specs that the title ‘Droid Incredible 2′ deserves. By this we’re talking about a dual-core processor of some sort, 1080p recording and playback, and an 8 megapixel camera with an equally decent front-facing camera for high quality video chat.

We’re not asking for much here HTC, so let’s hope they and Verizon make our visions a reality once this device is unveiled properly. Give us your thoughts on a possible ‘real’ successor to the Droid Incredible.

iPad 2nd Generation Price Dilemma: What Will Apple do?

iPad 2nd Generation Price Dilemma: What Will Apple do?

Apple is all set to make an announcement on the iPad 2 on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, but the iPad 2nd Generation could be facing a price dilemma. We know that we are stating the obvious here, but when the current model was released in April of last year there was not really any tablet alternatives to worry about.

However, this year is very different in the way that there will be a huge amount of choice. Should Apple choose to stick to their guns and keep the iPad 2 price the same as the current version, or do they need to take a more aggressive stance? The price of the iPad starts at $499.00 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model, but Skatter Tech believes that the Cupertino Company might have to drop the price of the new model to $399.

If they were to do this, then maybe the current iPad could be sold for $299, or even less. This will put Apple in a much better position than the likes of Motorola, as they will only have their Xoom to push, where Apple will be able to offer the iPad 2 for a premium – well cheaper than the Xoom – and the current iPad can then make it possible for those who could never afford one have one.

This certainly worked well with the iPhone 3GS, and you only have to look at how popular the PS2 is, and how many units they keep selling to know that this is a viable option. How much do you think Apple should sell the current and new iPad for?

Best Selling Cars of All Time: Surprising Entries

Best Selling Cars of All Time: Surprising Entries

Depending who you ask, the car is considered the best invention ever. Yes there have been a number of other great things, such as the computer, penicillin and the Internet, but it is the automobile that has changed our lives over the years dramatically – even more so for horses. We thought that this would be the ideal time to take a look at some of the best selling cars of all time, and there are some surprising entries.

The best selling car of all time is not that hard really, as it used to win best vehicle many years in a row. The car in question is the Toyota Corolla, and in its lifetime since being introduced in 1966 has sold more than 32,000,000. We understand that the Japanese automaker is unable to shift these cars in the numbers that they used to.

However, we have to wonder how long it will be before the Ford F-Series, which was launched in 1948 will take to catch up. Yes we know that the truck has been around for 18 more years, and that they have sold over 30,000,000 vehicles, but sales still remain strong.

One of the most surprising cars that sold in high numbers was the Ford Model T, which was the world's first production car. Ford managed to shift more than 16,500,000 vehicles from 1908 to1927, but what we found fascinating was how fast they were able to shift these in a market that was much smaller at the time.

What surprised me the most was how the Mini sold just 6,700,000+ since coming to the market in 1959. We had assumed that the sales figures would have been much higher. Thankfully BMW has now made the small vehicle fashionable again, and there is now more version than ever.

What cars do you see selling in huge numbers from now until the end of their lifespan?

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5): Release Date in 2011? More Possible Hints

It has been a while since we’ve heard any details surrounding Grand Theft Auto V hasn’t it? We don’t have any official news from Rockstar to bring you, but there has been some notable activity on the speculation side of things.

Firstly, let’s get on to the facts, as GrandTheft5 is reporting that Rockstar has interestingly registered the domain names of as many as five different websites, with speculation increasing that this is GTA V related.

The five domains in question are CashForDead Dreams, SixFigureTemps, StopPayingYourMortgage, HammersteinFaust, and LifeInvader. The websites don’t actually reveal much, but the names alone should do more than enough to raise one or two eyebrows.

Furthermore, it’s also been reported that a stuntman for the game Declan Mulvey listed Grand Theft Auto V on his IMDB page. The information has since been removed, and Mulvey himself told CVG that the information was a typo – really Declan? Just so you’re aware, Mulvey has also performed stunts for other video games, such as Red Dead Redemption, Saints Row 2 and the upcoming Max Payne 3.

It seems like a long shot, but could Rockstar be planning anything GTA 5 related at GDC 2011? The event in San Francisco kicks off today and runs through until March 5th – let’s hope so. Let us know your thoughts on these latest GTA 5 teasers.

Google Gmail Accounts Deleted: Were you affected?

Some Gmail users have found a problem with their accounts, and have seen stored emails and address books not available.

The problem started last night according to a report by Gareth Halfacree over at thinq, and has affected thousands of user's accounts. It has been reported that users are seeing every saved email and address books being completely wiped. This is a problem for Android smartphone users which sync with the built in Gmail setting.

Google have said the bug has only hit a small amount of users, around 0.08 of all Gmail accounts. The service is used by millions of people around the world, so the figure affected will be around 150,000 accounts. Google engineers have been working through the night to correct the problems, and the bug isn't thought to have deleted content permanently.

If this sort of issue worries you there is something you can do to protect yourself, Charlie White over at Mashable is reporting how users can backup their Gmail accounts. Gmail Backup is a free application for users of Mac, Linux, and Windows.

After downloading the app, you just enter your details and it starts downloading all your emails. It does take a while though; it took thirty minutes to download 2.4 percent of his emails, but will be worth it if this sort of bug hits your account.

Were you or anyone you know affected by the Gmail bug?

Mozilla Firefox 4 Beta 12 Download and List of Changes

Mozilla has released a new beta version of their Firefox web browser which gives users the chance to experience an early version of what Mozilla’s next major release, a change list is given providing information about all the changes that have been made for anyone interested in seeing the full list of developments.

In a post by Zdnet, they say that Mozilla are calling out for programmers to develop plug-ins for the new final product. This is the statement was given by Mozilla “We are working closely with the community of add-on developers to ensure their Firefox Add-ons are ready to customize the features, look and functionality of Firefox 4 Beta.”

Some of the new features that are promised with the web browser’s release are improvements in general stability, performance, and compatibility (Improved plugin compatibility with hardware acceleration enabled). There is said to be increased performance while viewing Flash content and the Firefox layout has undergone some changes.

All these changes sound pretty promising, however many are frustrated with the endless release of Firefox 4 betas, since the first-ever Firefox 4 beta over 70,000 bugs have been patched, therefore it is nice to see that Mozilla’s developers have been working hard, but we first heard about Firefox 4 back in May 2010, which means that we have almost been waiting a year, many see this as a long-time to wait for a new-version of an established web browser.

The beta is available today and can be downloaded from Mozilla’s website.. Have you used the Firefox 4 beta 12? If so, is it impressive?

Guitar Hero & DJ Hero DLC: More Coming Thanks to Fans

Guitar Hero & DJ Hero DLC: More Coming Thanks to Fans

The Guitar Hero franchise has developed and flourished greatly since the release of the original ‘Guitar Hero’, releasing titles which have expanded to drums, vocals and even DJ decks. Each series that has branched onto the current-gen consoles have all been bombarded with DLC to accompany the games’ already extensive tracklists.

Guitar Hero developers have stated recently that they will continue to release the DLC for Guitar Hero and DJ Hero games in the future even though Activision recently suggested that 2011 would not be a year where they would be concentrating on music games, apparently this decision has come about due to ‘continued support’ from the fans.

While this is good news for the fans of guitar hero titles, it seems like a wise move for the developers also. We recently posted about the new Nine Inch Nails track pack coming soon to Rock Band which will add to Rock Band’s already huge list of playable tracks. This continuation from Rock Band would have made their series more appealing to gamers if Guitar Hero would have discontinued DLC.

It would seem that our enjoyment of music games will continue to develop as Activision continue to create content for their fans, however we can not confirm any information about the next addition to the DLC at this moment in time. What music would you like to see added to Guitar Hero / DJ Hero?

Minecraft Achievements Incoming?

Minecraft Achievements Incoming?

The currently popular indie game Minecraft may soon change a littles as its creator is apparently thinking of adding achievements, the title has been very popular on platforms that are able to play the java applet and has already sold more than 1.4 million copies.

An interview with the creator, Markus Persson, has revealed that in his opinion, achievements would be good for the game and for the gamer. His own words were: "Yeah, I like achievements. I know a lot of people don't, but I like them." He wants to introduce achievements that will give the gamers more incentive to explore and use all the in-game features.

During the Q&A he also went on to say "I've had the idea to make achievements kind of like the in-game questing. So you'd be able to see the first achievement in a tree of achievements, and you have to unlock the top ones first before you can unlock the ones further down.” and added "So the first one might be to chop down a tree, or kill a chicken, and then these branch into more things you can do. Hopefully it would encourage people to try new areas."

The addition of achievements to the game would certainly give gamers more reason to stay on the game and more things to win, however we know that not everyone is a great fan of the achievement point scheme. Would you want Minecraft to receive unlockable achievements?

Nintendo 3DS vs. Sony NGP: Make your choice

Nintendo 3DS vs. Sony NGP: Make your choice

Gaming is making big developments in today’s era of technology and today we can debate the next releases in handheld entertainment. The topic of today’s argument, the Nintendo 3DS vs the Sony NGP (otherwise the PSP2).

The Nintendo 3DS is the first handheld console to utilize 3D capabilities and augmented reality, which will mean give game developers even more chance to be creative with the games coming to the 3DS. The 3DS will have a messaging service and will be backwards compatible with games from previous Nintendo consoles.

The 3DS also features a running activity log which monitors your games and gameplay and also acts as a pedometer for when you are out and about, however Nintendo have not just thrown this in to the console, they plan on using it as a way to give gamers ‘coins’ for each step they walk which can be spent on in-game content or DLC possibly. We thought this was a nice little touch for gamers. It also allows online play which connects through via Wi-Fi.

On the other side is the Sony NGP (Next Generation Portable), this will connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi and will also be released with an alternate 3G version for an extra cost. The console also comes with Bluetooth for file transfer. This trumps the Nintendo 3DS on connectivity, however we are not sure about the price for the 3G version and so this will depend on the gamer’s willingness to pay extra and agree a monthly data-plan.

Both consoles have a touch screen, Sony’s model has a 5-inch OLED central touchscreen for navigation and possibly integration into gameplay. However the 3DS has two screens (similar to the DS layout), the bottom is a touchscreen panel while the top screen is the glasses-free 3D screen.

Also both consoles have two camera positions, the Sony console has one front-facing and one rear-facing, whereas the 3DS beats Sony with its 2D front facing camera and two 3D cameras. If the cameras don’t do it for you and it’s looks that you go for, some would say that the NGP looks sleek and stylish as a handheld whereas the 3DS still delivers the bulky folding box design that we all knew from previous DS’ designs.

We don’t think it’s the design that we all look at in too much detail so overall it comes down to gameplay, the core purpose for both consoles, judging from the previous Nintendo releases we could assume that the console may be geared further towards the family market of gaming whereas the Sony model will be for the pure gamers who love driving, shooting and high-octane action.

For the NGP: Killzone, Wipeout, Call of Duty, Uncharted, Little Big Planet have been announced. For the 3DS Nintendogs + Cats, PES 2011, Metal Gear Solid 3D and more.

The Sony NGP will arrive sometime during the 2011 holidays, while the Nintendo 3DS comes to you much earlier March 27 (it is already available in Japan), both consoles sound promising however which one will come out on top? Leave us a comment and answer the poll question below.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.
