Best Android Phone Apps For Business Use

Best Android Phone Apps For Business Use

We have lost count how many iOS apps we have discussed, and we feel that we have left Android users out. However, today we thought we would look at some of the best Android phone apps for business use. Like the App Store, the Android Market sorts their apps out by top paid and top searched, so we thought we would look at two of the best from each.

The first app is called Exchange by TouchDown Key and out of almost 3,600 ratings has four and a half stars. That gives you an idea at just how good this business app is, and using it on your Android device makes it possible for you to collect your Corporate Email, Tasks, as well as your Contacts Calender. We must warn you that you will need to install the trial version first in order for this app to work.

Next up we have DocumentsToGo Full Version Key, this also has a four and a half star rating and has over 10,600 votes. If you have Microsoft Word and Excel, then this key will unlock the premium features, making it possible for you to edit things such as Google Docs etc. There are so many advantages to using this app, but people have suggested that creating footnotes would be a nice touch.

One of the most popular free business Android apps has to be Craigslist. When something new is posted on the website you will be sent a notification, this will allow you to get the best deals before others without the app. Some will wonder why this would be in the business section, but there are companies who use this service to save a huge amount of money on products.

One app that we thought we would recommend is WorldCard Mobile. With this app you can take a picture and then add a contact that is all you need to do. The technology is clever in the way that once you take a picture of someone's business card the app will then read all the details and then create a business card that can be accessed on your Android phone.

These are just four examples of business apps for the Android user, what others do you suggest?

Sony 3D Digital and Video Camera: Review of Tech

Posted: 27 Feb 2011 02:25 AM PST

Sony 3D Digital and Video Camera: Review of Tech

During CES last year 3D TVs had a big showing, but there seemed to be a lack of support from other consumer electronic products. However, things were very much different this year, as there was a huge showing. The Sony 3D Digital and video camera range is not that large at the moment, but during a recent Connected Products Brief that was hosted for Netshelter we got an insight into their vision for 2011 and beyond. So let us review the tech that is available so far.

Sony said that they are the only consumer electronics maker that covers the entire 3D world, from behind the camera to in the home. However, they will need to move at a faster rate this year, as we can only see two 3D digital cameras and one camcorder. These are the Sony HDR-TD10 Full HD video camera and the DSC-WX5 and DSC-TX9 Sony Cyber-shot cameras.

The HDR-TD10 from Sony has been a long time coming, but most of you will agree that the wait has been worth it. How cool will it be to take 3D video recording of something and then be able to play it back on your Sony BRAVIA TV with Full 3D support? What makes this device more versatile is how you can switch from 2D to 3D in an instant. You cannot help think that you are looking at a portable Johnny Five from Short Circuit with those two eyes staring at you. More details can be found on the Sony Style website.

The DSC-WX5 is not what you would say a Full 3D camera, as it only takes Multi Angle images to offer 3D-like effects. However, it is still very effective in how it achieves this. You will still need a 3D TV to see the photos come to life.

The Sony TX9 Digital compact camera also employs that same technology, but this is certainly a higher-end product. We have to wonder how much truth there is in Sony's claim when they say that this model offers "DSLR-like picture quality"? What we do like with the TX9 is the touchscreen, this does make using the camera much easier, although you do need to keep cleaning that screen. More details.

These are just three 3D camera devices that Sony had to offer, and we hope to see many more in 2011. Do you think that 3D will be as big as consumer electronic makers say it will be?

Armload of Windows Phone 7 apps needed, Microsoft’s plan

Armload of Windows Phone 7 apps needed, Microsoft’s plan

Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 has been with us for a while now, but it has a long way to go to catch up with the iPhone and Android when it comes to apps. Owners of those devices currently have a vast range of apps which can add many features to their smartphones.

Now Microsoft is relaxing a strict company rule to help get up the numbers of Windows Phone 7 apps available for the platform. According to an article on The New York Times, Microsoft employees can now have another job in their spare time; on condition the second job is writing Windows Phone 7 applications.

The company gave all employees in 19 countries free Windows 7 handsets, and is holding weekly pizza parties for those who are writing apps for the platform. There is a problem with this, as there is no money in it for the employees who are writing apps if they don't catch on. Google on the other hand allow engineers to spend 20% of their paid time working on projects that will benefit the company.

Jared Spurbeck over at Yahoo! News is looking at the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia with the Windows Phone 7 OS. One of the biggest benefits will be that Nokia will bring Windows Phone 7 to a wider audience with a larger range of prices. Nokia has also been given the power to change the operating system, but with their previous track record what will it be like?

Windows Phone 7 is a relativity young operating system, and has to be given the chance to grow and improve. We are already seeing some of the big apps becoming available like Angry Birds among others, but can it compete with the other more established players out there?

Dealbreaker For New iPad 2 Release Gets Named

Dealbreaker For New iPad 2 Release Gets Named

Before buying a new gadget most of you will have a dealbreaker in mind, this could be the price or some feature it must have, and this goes for the Apple iPad 2 release as well. What will be your dealbreaker for iPad 2?

We're hearing two features repeatedly from our readers, which they want on the iPad 2nd generation tablet, these are a USB port and SD card slot. While the latest Apple rumors point to these features not being included in the said device, you never know with Apple.

For now, lets say that the "unnamed sources" are correct, and the iPad 2 will not feature either of the above features, what would Apple's answer be to those that need these features? The first guess would be a suggestion to buy adapters, but then why should you pay more for specs you wanted in the hardware itself. Should you be forced to buy extra items, especially when a USB port and SD card slot are industry standards?

Some business users will upgrade to the iPad 2 from the last generation, this would be a result of either reducing tax with expenses, or a need to have the latest tech, but the wise buyer would be looking for a dealbreaker, a feature the device must have.

We have received email from some readers who claim the USB port is the only reason they would buy an iPad, explaining they use flash drives all the time and that their data needs to be accessed by external hard drives via USB. Another reader went further by calling it "ridiculous" for not having such a small feature like an SD-card slot, or even micro-SD.

Bigger storage is always welcomed in the new iPad, but expansion via a slot or port is favored among PR readers. Do you feel the same way? Name your iPad 2 dealbreaker in the comments.

Hong Kong Gets Apple Store Debut Later This Year

In 2008 China opened its first Apple Inc. store. They now have a store in four different locations across the country, two in Shanghai and two in Beijing, each getting around 40,000 customer visits per day. This year Apple plan on opening another 20 stores in China and Hong Kong will get their first.

The city's first outlet will be a 15,000 square foot located in Central at the IFC Mall. Apple also plan on opening a second store in Hong Kong which they are hoping will be opened by the third quarter of next year. This one will be bigger at 20,000 square foot, situated at Causeway Beach in Hysan Place.

The stores will together cost no less than $40 million. According to Tuaw, Apple will spend $9.2 million on rent a year and approximately $20 million to construct the store in the IFC Mall. This is having already gained the retail space on a 10 year lease. The stores are designed similar to the ones in other high profile cities Paris and London.

Apple currently have 323 stores around the world and with such traffic at the China ones, four times what the average store in the U.S gets, Macnn say they are top of the list for sales per store.

What do you think of Apple's expansion? Do you think the money being spent on the stores in china could be put to better use for Apple? Let us know your thoughts.

Norton 360 5.0 Vs AVG 2011: Internet Security Features

From the moment that you purchase a computer the very first thing that you need to decide is what Internet Security or Antivirus software you will choose. There are more out there than you think, those that you pay for and those you do not. Choosing these usually comes down to personal preference, and the most popular of either paid or free are Norton 360 and AVG, and both have new versions for 2011.

We do not know how many times people have said to us that they only stick with Norton because that is all they have ever used, so they will be pleased to know that there is a new version, Norton 360 5.0. As you would imagine Symantec certainly do there best to sell their product, such as explaining how this new security suite will not only help keep your computer running fast, but also keep you safe while you surf the web.

Looking over the features we cannot see that much has changed, this all-in-one protection will still stop your computer from slowing down and boot up much quicker. However, it is knowing that you will be protected against viruses and malware that is of most interest to the consumer. The price you pay is just $79.99, more details can be found on on the Norton website.

Now with AVG you have a choice, you can either opt for the free version, which is just antivirus only, or you can decide to pay the much cheaper price of around $50. For that you will get the complete AVG Internet Security 2011 version. This will not only keep the toughest threats out, but also keeps your private information safe. Compare all three version on the AVG website.

Over the years we have noticed how much memory resources Norton 360 takes, so if your machine is a little on the old side and does not have much RAM, them maybe you should opt for something that is not resource intensive. There are many other versions of security software on the market, what one do you use?

Gas Guzzler Tax: What you need to know in 2011

Gas Guzzler Tax: What you need to know in 2011

How many times have you decided to purchase a car, only to find that you will be hit with a huge Gas Guzzler Tax? The strange thing about this is that it only used to apply to cars and not other vehicles such as SUVs and minivans. However, that has changed for this year. What drivers need to know is, what will they be paying for their 2011 car? As you would imagine, this will be based on what type of vehicle you go for, so a little common sense is needed when choosing a new model.

Some of you will wonder why other vehicles did not have to pay Gas Guzzler Tax; and the reason for that was because the act was established in 1978, which meant that there were not that many SUVs on the road. However, that has now changed for 2011, so more vehicles will now be included?

You do not have to be a genius to know what the fuel-economy leaders are; so will pay less tax, as we have mentioned them many times. Top of the pile for 2011 models is currently and has been for a while the Toyota Prius, which as we know is a hybrid. Looking over on the government's EPA website we can see that there are three cars all with the same fuel-economy rating, so should all pay the same amount of Gas Guzzler Tax; these are the Ford Fusion Hybrid FWD, Mercury Milan Hybrid FWD and the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid FWD.

Now looking at the other end of the scale, those that will pay the most include the Bugatti Veyron, and with fuel ratings of 8mpg city and 15 highway, it's not hard to see why. What made us laugh was how the 2011 Ford E350 Wagon was not that much different to the supercar above, with ratings of 10/13 for city and highway respectively.

More details on fuel economy ratings can be found on the EPA website, highest here and lowest here. Now that the Gas Guzzling Tax has been extended to cover the likes of SUVs and minivans we could finally see less types of these vehicles on the road?

UFC 127: Facebook results good, reasons for social media marketing

UFC 127: Facebook results good, reasons for social media marketing

The growth of social networks seems to be unstoppable, well at least for some of those networks. The Social Network movie opened people's eyes to the 'Facebook' story, even if it may not be an exact recount on what happened. In 2011 it will be more important for companies to use social media for promoting their brands than any year before.

If you've been to a social media event – like Social Media World Forum – then you will already know a little about what brands are doing with social media, and this ranges from Coca-Cola to UFC.

Last night saw UFC 127 take place, and the results for their Facebook uptake is pretty impressive, at the time of writing we are seeing 4,830,188 fans of their Facebook page. UFC are promoting their Facebook page by offering free viewing of certain fights, all you have to do is 'Like' their page.

UFC President Dana White has been promoting the social media idea, and we've seen him explain that Facebook and UFC are here to stay in the past, which is great for international viewers. China’s Zhang opened up the UFC 127 fights on Facebook, and this ended in a win, which also highlights a reason for UFC to enter social media marketing in this way. China has a strong martial arts background, and is an untapped MMA market, this may be partly the reason Zhang's fight was made available on Facebook.

There are a number of reasons that UFC will want to use Facebook, and other social media marketing. Top of the list would be fan engagement, UFC will be able to connect with fans and they get to talk back to UFC, although this can have management problems too. Another reason would be brand credibility, its good to see UFC moving with the times and connecting via popular social networks like Facebook.

Do you love the idea of UFC giving fans free fights? What do you want to see UFC do next with Facebook? You can view the results of UFC 127 here, or read more about Facebook.

iPhone 5 LTE possible, success of Verizon iPhone 4 watched closely

iPhone 5 LTE possible, success of Verizon iPhone 4 watched closely

We've watched most WWDC events unfold, and the start of each has become routine, sales will always play a part of that introduction and Apple blowing their own trumpet will always be the focus of the first few minutes of each press conference, so we have come to expect it.

The Verizon iPhone 4 was expected by some, and not by others but those that have come to know Apple, would have expected some sales results from either Verizon Wireless or Apple, especially after such a long wait for the Verizon iPhone? This has not been the case.

When a company sells loads of units, they shout from the rooftops, so why should the Verizon iPhone be any different? Daniel Mead, Verizon Wireless chief, has tried to counter rumors of low sales for the Verizon iPhone 4, which you can read in full here. All Verizon need to do is release the actual number of sales, will this happen? Of course it will, but the news will be history by that time.

Speculation over an iPhone 5 running LTE is increasing, and while this move is possible, it's also complicated. Apple and analysts will watch the Verizon iPhone 4 launch closely, and success is surely vital for future plans made by Apple. If they go for cross-carrier compatibility in a single iPhone 5 model, it will need to support older networks and LTE technology, this is without other compatibility considerations.

The way forward for Apple may be to offer a different peace of hardware for each network, especially if T-Mobile and Sprint are brought into the equation, which brings more compatibility issues. The Verizon iPhone 4 path may be a good one for Apple to follow, and they have shown the willingness to change iPhone's product line. The iPhone 5 release may follow this same route, but this all depends on what way is easier to expand the iPhone user base. Read more on iPhone 5.

One of the first, Nintendo 3DS release in Japan

One of the first, Nintendo 3DS release in Japan

The skeptics will be warning parents not to let their children play the Nintendo 3DS for too long, and while all gaming should be limited especially when in 3D, we're pretty excited about the Nintendo 3DS, which has just seen a release in Japan.

Hot on the heels of news about Nintendo 3DS launch titles, Japan has seen a solid launch of the new 3D portable gaming device, even though you'll be waiting another month before you see one at a GameStop.

Early reports suggest the 400,000 units that were in place, have all but disappeared, showing the market for 3D gaming is massive, if that was the reason for buying a Nintendo 3DS in the first place. Some retailers in Japan reported they had sold all stock via pre-orders, which could have left buyers frustrated, although we're hearing that lines were not a problem at stores.

The Japanese version of Engadget has posted some launch photos; they even picked up two systems while they were there. You can see a couple of videos below, which were filmed while at the Japan launch, one shows an unboxing of the new 3DS, shortly after release. Read more on the Nintendo 3DS.

Trendsetter: iPhone 5

Trendsetter: iPhone 5

In the next few days Apple will confirm mostly what we already knew about the iPad 2, and that will mean the focus will start to shift to another Apple device, iPhone 5 – that we expect a June announcement.

Following the routine of previous years, new Apple rumors in the last few days have included parts of (apparently) iPhone 5. While these showed a bigger screen thanks to an improved edge to edge display, there is no way to confirm this because the part was not stacked next to anything else, for a size comparison.

No matter how authentic the image is, Apple will be making some big changes for the iPhone 5th generation device. The device may just be a phone, but it's also something that changes people's lives upon each new release, thanks to Apple being a trendsetter and not a company that follows trends. Apple builds products with a lot more control, and superior build quality not to mention better access to iTunes and the cool factor of Apple.

Some users will find Apple to be slow off the mark with some technologies' like the new 4G LTE, and these buyers may choose the HTC Thunderbird or another device by Verizon, but does Apple have a reason for waiting with some trends, and instead setting their own. We've heard already that Apple may launch a new A5 CPU, a core with dual-core graphics, and NFC with a twist from Apple that may also set a new trend.

Be ready. The iPhone 5 rumors are just starting to heat up, especially with the iPad 2 about to be official, expect more photos appearing online over the coming weeks. The Verizon iPhone 4 shocked some readers with the change in routine for Apple, so we could see the same again with a 4G LTE version of iPhone 5 on Verizon at a later date, possibly Jan 2012. The next phone from Apple is sure to make waves in the market again, read more on the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5, getting physical with 5th generation

iPhone 5, getting physical with 5th generation

It's that time of year again when speculation and alleged leaks surround the next iPhone, before Apple actually give us anything official. Today some new images have surfaced which could confirm the iPhone 5 will have a bigger screen.

9 to 5 Mac are reporting that an image has appeared on a Chinese reseller of Apple parts website. The part in question looks like it could be the digitizer panel from the 5th generation of the iPhone. It looks similar to the one which is currently found on the iPhone 4, but the screen cutout seems bigger.

We have spoken before about rumors that the next iPhone could have a larger screen, and this latest information matches up with reports from Apple's production lines. The digitizer also seems to have a thinner bezel all the way round; this matches reports before that the next iPhone will have an edge to edge display.

At the moment this is only speculation, and we will have to wait until Apple officially shows us what the next iPhone will look like. This will probably be in June at the annual WWDC event, before then we will have to rely on tit bits that seem to be slowly fed to us as the weeks go by. But an iPhone which is the same physical size but with a bigger screen, would be a good thing.

Would you like to see a bigger screen on the iPhone 5?

Thunderbolt peripherals, new port needs products

The new Thunderbolt port is pretty impressive on paper, and looks to revolutionize what can be done from a single port, especially when it comes to speed of data transfers and the range of peripherals that can be used with Intel's Thunderbolt, it excels.

Apple's new MacBook Pro is the first device to debut this technology, and now consumers will want to know about Thunderbolt peripherals, which will take advantage of the new features found in this port.

Not all companies will reveal their plans for the new Thunderbolt port right away, but some are. MacWorld reports on a few Thunderbolt peripherals, which aim to improve in a number of ways thanks to the new technology, and that includes using up to 10Gbps of data transfer. Imagine moving a full HD movie in under half a minute.

Some brands will want to jump on the bandwagon early and take advantage of 'Thunderbolt'; one peripheral maker called 'Promise Technology' has showed this already. They issued a news release for a new hardware RAID solution, named Pegasus, which will feature up to 12TB of raw storage and the raw speed of Thunderbolt technology. You can read the full release here.

You can see a teardown of the new MacBook Pro in this article, or a closer look at the Intel and Apple collaboration here. What Thunderbolt-ready peripherals are you looking forward to buying?
