After Almost Two Days of Outage, Cydia is Back Online Posted: 24 Apr 2011 09:13 PM PDT
Cydia was one of the many websites which used Amazon’s EC2 cloud-computing services, recently affected by a major outage that took them offline. Cydia's founder, Jay Freeman (also known as saurik) just announced the good news via its Twitter account.
Amazon's EC2 outage was limited to the Amazon Northern Virginia data center only, but affected a slew of websites, from Cydia, to Foursquare. It took about two days for Amazon to identify and fix the issue that occurred at the EC2 data center, and slowly put the impacted websites back online one after the other. » Related posts:

Achilles’ Defense – Game Review Posted: 24 Apr 2011 07:12 PM PDT
Although, like other physics games, your job as the hero Achilles is to throw things at other things in order to gain XP and buy better gear, that is about where the similarities end. Instead of trying to knock down stationary castles, your goal is to protect Zeus' temple. Instead of little princesses that need to be knocked off their pedestals, you must kill goblins and harpies. The concept is the same, but the content is quite original. You are defending Zeus' temple from the wrath of Hades. A battle has ensued wherein Hades has called upon the creatures of the Underworld to take revenge on Zeus for sending him to hell. Waves of monsters attack the temple and you, alone, must protect it. Using your aim and knowledge of physics (or trial and error until you get it right) you throw your spears at the oncoming barrage of evil, killing as many as you can before they reach the temple and destroy it. Within each level of the game, there are three ways to gain additional XP, First Blood, Protector, and Flag Master. It is imperative that you gain these additional bonuses because the levels become exponentially harder each time. Without the bonus upgrades, you are almost guaranteed to fail by the third level. Make no mistake, this game is hard. The art style is a perfect match for the storyline. A broad-chested, flowing-haired hero stands at the foot of Zeus's temple and flings spears at Cyclopes, minotaurs and even the god of the hell of Hades. The characters are neither cutsey, nor graphic in nature. They are cartoony, but not overly so. The soundtrack is subtle and unassuming. You vaguely hear the sound of drumbeats off in the distance, as if it's a call to battle. What I liked: It is not a rehash of the same old physics-based games. The storyline is rife with adventure. The graphics are great. What I didn't like: There is no way to replay a level. This type of game absolutely needs a replay level feature. Otherwise, you will never get enough practice in to gain the necessary XP to make it to the end. To buy or not to buy: This game is a must have. It is on sale at 50% off right now at an introductory price of $0.99. Even at full price, it is worth every penny.

Chicken Balls HD for iPad – Game Review Posted: 24 Apr 2011 06:59 AM PDT
I like to call these games ‘waiting room killers’, because they are addictive and easy to get the hang of. This one is no different. The puzzles are increasingly more difficult as you navigate through collecting eggs in order to reach Farmageddon. The further you progress, the more complex the solution to grabbing all the eggs. By level 8, I was circumventing flying pigs, cows, and UFO’s as well as a variety of makeshift barns getting in the way of my goal. I should also note that the sound effects may be the best part of the game, so be sure to have your volume turned up — cute chicken clucking, cow mooing and pig oinking abounds! What I liked: The graphics are well done (and completely adorable) and the celebrations that happen on screen when you reach milestones are well worth the price of admission –falling pigs, cows and aliens, oh my! What I didn't like: Unfortunately there is a sense of ‘played one, played them all’ when it come to this sort of game, but if you can look past those similarities you will enjoy it completely. To buy or not to buy: If you can’t keep your hands off addictive puzzle games, you can’t go wrong. With increasing difficulty, the levels will keep you engaged and determined. This is a game that can be enjoyed by all ages, even the younger crowd will enjoy tossing a few chickens through the air!
