Posted: The LG Optimus One has become the Galaxy S of mid-range smartphones. It's on pretty much every U.S. carrier, all versions being pretty much exactly the same, and it's one of the best phones in its category. The LG Phoenix doesn't really bring anything new to the table, but it does maintain the same high level of performance as its other Optimus One brethren. I've been consistently impressed by how well these mid-range smartphones perform and, of course, did not expect anything different... |
Android 2.3.4 coming over the next few weeks, includes video chat for Nexus S Posted: Good news, Nexus One and Nexus S owners! Google just announced that it will begin rolling out Android 2.3.4 "over the next few weeks" and, while the Nexus One will be getting some bug fixes alongside the update, Nexus S owners have something even bigger to look forward to: video chat. Yes, the ability to do Gtalk voice and video chat over 3G/4G and WiFi will be included in the Nexus S's 2.3.4 update, with the feature rolling out to other Android 2.3 devices sometime "in the future." Check out a... |
Motorola XOOM WiFi coming to Sprint on May 8th Posted: Looking for another way to buy yourself a Motorola XOOM ? I've got some good news for you, friend. Sprint just announced that it'll begin offering the Motorola XOOM WiFi on Sunday, May 8th, for $599.99. The full press release is available for your perusal down below. Unsurprisingly, there's no mention of a XOOM with WiMAX support in Sprint's announcement, but the news that they're offering a WiFi-only model could be seen by some as an indication that a cellular radio-packin' version... |
Motorola DROID 3 parts show up at reseller, show off 4-inch screen and front-facing camera Posted: We haven't heard much about the Motorola DROID 3 ever since we saw a couple of images of the device leak out last month, but today we've been treated to a closer look at the next device in the Motorola DROID lineup. Parts reseller Global Direct Parts has posted images of the display for the DROID 3 and, if it's indeed legit, it confirms the inclusion of a few specs on the D3, namely a 4-inch 960x540 display and a front-facing camera which GDP thinks will be 0.3-megapixels. The DROID 3 also... |
White iPhone 4 launches today, gets the unboxing treatment on video Posted: The white iPhone 4: after months (and months) of delays, Apple today finally released the albino version of it latest addition to the iPhone family. Available for both AT&T and Verizon and, if you plan on joining the white iPhone 4 owners club, you can expect to pay either $199.99 for the 16GB version or $299.99 for the 32GB flavor. If you're still on the fence about picking up the frosty handset or just want to see what all the fuss is about, though, our friend Cam Bunton over at Today's... |
HTC Kingdom, Rider pose for some blurry photographs Posted: The HTC Doubleshot has been ruling the "Rumored HTC Android devices" realm for some time now, but today we've got a couple of new entrants that should probably earn some of your attention. Posted by Chinese blog 911Sniper, you're looking at the HTC Kingdom on the left and the HTC Rider on the right. There's not much known about either device just yet, but the Kingdom is said to be packing a 960x540 qHD display, and you can kind of make out what looks like a front-facing camera to the right of... |
Verizon's 4G LTE network officially back online Posted: Earlier this morning, we began hearing reports that Verizon's 4G LTE network was slowly coming back online throughout the country. Now Big Red has confirmed via its Twitter account that its LTE coverage has indeed been restored following an outage that lasted over 24 hours. This is definitely great news for HTC ThunderBolt users across the country, as well as anyone accessing Verizon's LTE network with one of the carrier's mobile hotspots or 4G modems. Unfortunately, there's still no... |
Sprint adds record number of subscribers during Q1 2011 Posted: Ready for another heaping helping of Q1 2011 carrier financial numbers? Of course you are! After AT&T and Verizon posted their numbers around a week ago, Sprint has shared its first quarter results and, while there's a lot of good news, there's also some bad news mixed in. On the upside, Sprint managed more wireless net subscriber additions in Q1 than any other time in the past five years, adding 1.1 million total subscribers. Of that 1.1 million, 846,000 were pre-paid and 310,000 were... |
Samsung DROID Charge launch delayed, Verizon slowly restoring LTE across the country? Posted: Today was supposed to be a big day for Android lovers on Verizon, with the Samsung DROID Charge, HTC DROID Incredible 2, and the Casio G'zOne Commando all hitting Big Red's shelves. Now it's looking likely that the DROID Charge will be missing in action, as an internal Verizon email sent over to Engadget claims that "unexpected delays" have caused the device's launch to be pushed back. There's no word on exactly when the Charge will launch, but it's not terribly surprising that it's been... |
Have we become too dependent on network speeds? Posted: With the ability to browse the web at snail-like pace, the first “smart” phones that made their way into the consumer market were slightly ahead of their time. The networks that the first BlackBerrys and the original iPhone claimed home to were extremely slow and definitely not meant to handle data and traffic of any real capacity. I can remember back to when I got my very first BlackBerry on Alltel. At the time, I was cruising along on a 1X signal. Loading mobile web pages... |
Is BlackBerry 7 the right move for RIM to make? Posted: There have been many things said about Research In Motion over the last few years. Some of it positive, while some of it not so much. In today’s smartphone market, the competition has become remarkably powerful, and even in the business world it seems that RIM and their BlackBerry name have begun to slip from their high perch. But with the launch of the company’s first tablet device, the BlackBerry PlayBook and its brand new QNX Software-based mobile operating system, and the... |
Casio G'zOne Commando Unboxing Posted: Aaron unboxes Verizon's most rugged smartphone to date, the Casio G'zOne Commando . Featuring an 800 MHz processor, it has a 3.6-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, and a custom build of Android 2.2. It meets military specifications for dust, wind, and water resistance. It launches on April 28th for $199.99. Aaron puts it through its paces to see if it's really THAT durable. |
Samsung Epic 4G's Gingerbread update in testing, due to arrive in June? [UPDATED] Posted: The Samsung Epic 4G only recently got a stable update to Android 2.2, but according to a new rumor that's emerged today, and update to Gingerbread could be coming in the next month and a half or so. The folks at BriefMobile were handed the image you see above, with the source of the image claiming that Android 2.3.3 for the Epic 4G (build ED12) is currently in testing. When will the GBread goodness make its way to your Epic, you ask? If the source of the screenshot is to be believed, testing of... |
Are capacitive and software keyboards the way of the future? Posted: Being a long-time BlackBerry fan, I have always been a strong proponent of good, quality hardware keyboards. When I took the plunge and went all-touch, having an on-screen keyboard was the sole feature that kept me from ditching my BlackBerry and never looking back. Those of us who were first introduced to software keyboards in the days of resistive touchscreens cringe at the thought of tiny, insensitive keyboards that were only usable with the aid of a fingernail or stylus. Luckily,... |

It's coming on April 28th for $299.99 with a new two-year agreement. Aaron puts it through its paces. |
T-Mobile G2x vs. Apple iPhone 4 Dogfight Pt. 2 Posted: Dogfight time! Aaron throws the T-Mobile G2x and the Apple iPhone 4 into the ring to see which one is the best. The T-Mobile G2x sports a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU, 4-inch WVGA display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording capabilities, front-facing camera, an HDMI port, and a near-stock build of Android 2.2. The Apple iPhone 4 has an A4 processor (roughly 1 GHz), 3.5-inch Retina display, 5-megapixel camera, front-facing camera, and more. They'll both... |
