White iPhone 4 deliveries arrive in US, release imminent Posted: 25 Apr 2011 03:26 AM PDT The white iPhone 4 looks to be heading to the shelves anytime now. Today we have news that white iPhone 4 deliveries are arriving in the US with an imminent release approaching. We recently told you that one lucky customer was mistakenly sold a white version of the handset so it must be close. Kasper Jade from AppleInsider is reporting that Apple has begun its retail preparations for the launch of the handset. Sources are claiming that the stores have started to receive promotional information for the white iPhone 4, and will see it launch for AT&T and Verizon customers within the next week. Some stores have also allegedly received shipment notifications for the various handset SKUs, but have been told to hold these back until further instructions. It is looking more likely that there will be an official announcement by Apple on April 27. The release of the white iPhone 4 is thought will keep sales of Apple's smartphone up until the next generation makes its appearance. This is thought to be around the holiday season of this year. This ends the much publicized delay for the handset, which has seen many consumers getting fed up waiting to own a white iPhone 4. For more coverage: |
PlayStation Network Down, Are Anonymous Telling the Truth? Posted: 25 Apr 2011 02:44 AM PDT It’s a very sad time for PS3 owners at the moment, because at the time of writing, we can confirm that the PlayStation Network is STILL down for maintenance, bringing the total downtime into a fifth day believe it or not. Hacking group Anonymous have now come out and stated that they are not responsible for this attack, but do you believe them? Just to give you a refresh, Anonymous originally targeted the PS3 as part of their initial attacks against Sony for their treatment of a certain infamous hacker, but they have just come out recently, posting a new video saying that they are not behind this latest attack. We’ve included the video for you below, but what we more interested about, is whether they are telling the truth or not. Don’t forget that Anonymous is made up of a group of individual users, with no direct leader so this could have still been carried out by a few angry members, with or without the consent of the group’s leader. Sony has already admitted that the downtime is due to the PlayStation Network suffering an attack, so it’s clear that someone is responsible. If Anon are not responsible for this, then who is? Our guesses is that these people may still be connected to Anonymous and that the attacks happened were similar to the ones that Anon first launched a few weeks ago. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Anon are still behind this or not? For more coverage: |

Samsung Smart TV: SDK Opportunity Explained Posted: 25 Apr 2011 02:09 AM PDT The Samsung Smart TV is just like the app store when it comes to developing apps, as they both need a software development kit. The opportunity is explained very simply really, as it is a way for developers to build new applications for Samsung's latest range of TVs and Blu-ray players ready for consumers to download. These devices have only come on to the market this year, with the Korean market getting them first and other countries soon to follow – some as early as may 2011. There are so many things that help the developers create these apps easy, but it is the emulator UI that is the biggest help. Other features that make it easier for live and on-demand viewing of apps is IETF live streaming. We may not understand the complexities of how it all works, but it is the end result that matters most – such as speed. Something else that is very interesting is how the SDK for Samsung's Smart TVs integrates Adobe AIR 2.5 technology; this makes it possible for developers to create standalone applications. There are some companies that do all they can to deter developers to build apps, such as making things tougher. However, the same cannot be said for Samsung, as they have a system set up that makes is simple for them to get started. It is things like this that has allowed Samsung to grow as a company at an alarming rate in recent years; we just hope that they can keep up this momentum. The Korean consumer electronics maker knows that the TV is the central hub to any home, so coming up with new interactive features is a way to keep the family firmly in front of it. Apple were the ones that made the app king when it comes to new content, and now it is the likes of Samsung that has taken it and adopted it in more than just a phone. For a greater insight into the Smart TV SDK then visit the official Samsung Forum. For more coverage: |

Top 5 Driving Distractions: Increasing Awareness Posted: 25 Apr 2011 01:03 AM PDT When it comes to drivers there is so much going on that it is very easy for us to take our eye of the road, which is why we thought we would look at the top 5 driving distractions in the hope of increasing awareness. For years we have been distracted with the same things, but it was not until the cell phone took off that a new menace was in town. It is no secret that the young loves to keep in touch with each other, but I find it hard to believe that they would attempt to text while driving. Well that is just what is happening, as we have seen it for ourselves. You have to wonder how such a thing is possible – especially when some people struggle to send a text under normal condition. The second offender is again with the cell phone, but this time it is making/taking calls without the aid of a hands-free kit. In most countries this is now illegal, but we do not know how many times we have seen people talking with a phone in their hand while driving, or even resting on their shoulder so that they have to tilt their necks? The third most distracting thing while driving has to be eating. OK, so we know that most of us are guilty of this at some time or another, but it is only when you learn of all the accidents caused by this that it makes you reconsider doing it again. The fourth is yet another that many of us have done, and that is adjusting the radio while driving. However, things are now much easier now that many cars have the controls on the wheel – so no need to take your hands of the steering wheel. Fifth on the list is applying makeup while driving. Now we all know that women are able to multitask, but this puts a whole new meaning to it. Please remember that all of the above is dangerous to do, as it takes your eyes of the road, which could end in tragedy. What else do you think should be on this list? For more coverage: |
PS3: Hacker Proofing PlayStation Network (PSN) While Down Posted: 25 Apr 2011 12:52 AM PDT The PlayStation Network is still unavailable at the time of writing, as the problem continues for best part of a week now. We told you yesterday that Sony were Hacker Proofing the PlayStation Network while it was down. But will they be able to make the service safe from hackers? We are still seeing many fed up PlayStation 3 owners commenting on PRs pages, venting their frustrations at the long downtime of PSN. But if Sony can not only make the service more secure, but also improve it, won't this prolonged outage be worth it? Many gamers prefer playing their PS3 games online, for instance there are people who have the Call of Duty franchise who only use it online without ever playing the campaign mode. Trouble is will PSN ever be safe from people wanting to hack into the service and take it down? Tell us what you think by taking part in the poll below. For more coverage: |
HTC Flyer: Pre-Order Price at Best Buy – Xoom Better Deal or Not Posted: 25 Apr 2011 12:35 AM PDT We have some important news for those of you planning to pick up the HTC Flyer or HTC EVO View 4G as it’s also known. The device is now available for pre-order for US customers and Best Buy will be the only place you can get one for the time being. If you’re interested in picking up HTC’s first tablet, you can now pre-order one on Best Buy’s website here, priced at $499, as reported from Phandroid. The pre-sale started yesterday (April 24th) and according to Best Buy’s official press release, the device will launch later ‘this Spring’, but no official date was mentioned. Just to refresh you on specs, the Flyer is a 7-inch device with specs such as a 1.5Ghz single core Qualcomm processor, 1Gb of RAM, a 5 megapixel rear camera with 1.3MP front-facing camera and 32GB of internal storage, expandable via MicroSD card. From early inspection, the HTC Flyer looks like a very fast device even if it only comes with a single-core processor, but it’s important to note that it will still ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and not Honeycomb like most of the other competitors out at the moment. Who is planning to get one from Best Buy for $499 – is it a good deal in your opinion, or is one of the other tablets on the market such as the LG G-Slate and Motorola Xoom a better option? Samsung Smart TV platform enhanced with 3D VOD App Posted: 25 Apr 2011 12:31 AM PDT With so many choices of TVs on the market it is often hard to decide which to go for, but there is one consumer electronics makers that seems to be making the choice so much simpler with their new range. The new Samsung Smart TV platform has so much more to offer than the competition; such as being enhanced with 3D VOD App (video on demand). OK, so we know that there is a huge choice when it comes to 3D TVs on the market, but how many of them can you say comes with free 3D content? For years Samsung was not considered to be a major player in this industry, but today is a different story, as they are now the worlds number one TV maker, and it is new features – like Smart TV – that has helped them get there. (Samsung Smart TV Review) Samsung has already launched this new feature in a number of Asian countries, but we have recently learned that it will be launched in other parts of the world in May. Samsung Smart TV is not only available on a number of their new TV devices, but also on a few other devices that can gain access to the Internet. The Korean consumer electronics maker has called upon the help of DreamWorks to bring this new feature to their customers, which to us would make the 3D app something worth considering – if you were in the market for a new TV that is. Those who now own one of these new TVs will now have access to a range of new services, such as 3D music videos, children's content, as well as movie trailers and clips. As you would imagine more content is being added, but given time you will have a huge library of content at your disposal – but until now you will have to make do with what is on offer. What makes things even better is the fact that the service is free – how often can you say that in this day and age? As with any app download service they are easy to download and install, the hard part is choosing what one you want or need. For more details on Samsung Smart TV 3D VOD App visit CNet. Would you consider a Samsung Smart TV for the use of free 3D VOD Apps? For more coverage: |
Smart Internet TV Remote Controls: Samsung, LG, and Apps Posted: 24 Apr 2011 11:40 PM PDT There is no question that the latest range of TVs are getting smarter, which is why there are now a host of new smart Internet TV remote controls to help complement them. Two of the biggest TV manufactures are LG and Samsung, and you are able to control their integrated apps with these remotes, but what is there on offer? The first is the 'Samsung Qwerty TV Remote', but with more than 60 buttons at your disposal things are a little cluttered. However, you do gain faster access to features such as Facebook and Pandora, along with a host of web video services. If this one is not for you, then you can use the Galaxy Tab, and download an app to help control their new range of Smart TVs. This would be considered to be the better option. Whenever you think of all-in-one remotes, then the first brand to come to mind is Logitech. It is only with the range of new Google TV devices that they decided to offer a smart remote, which helps to complement the Logitech Revue. This remote makes it much simpler to control the Google TV set-top box, but we do have an issue with the design – to many buttons once again. The coolest of these remotes has to be 'LG’s Magic Motion Remote Control', although not certain how long it will be before the novelty factor wears off? This works much in the same way as the 'Magic Wand' where you just wave the controller in the air to command different functions of the TV. There are many other device that are too numerous to list, such as the range of Android smartphones, the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. Choosing which is best will certainly be a tough choice, but it will always come down to price and features – maybe the iPhone could be the number one choice then? What Smart Internet TV Remote Control Would You Choose? For more coverage: |
T-Mobile G2X: Official Android 2.3 Gingerbread Release Date Update Posted: 24 Apr 2011 10:12 PM PDT If you are already in possession of a T-Mobile G2X, or currently have one on pre-order, we have some excellent news for you. T-Mobile has just confirmed that users will not have to wait long for the official upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. For those of you that are unaware, the 1Ghz dual-core processor ships with Android 2.2 Froyo, but T-Mobile always insisted that Gingerbread would come soon after release. It now looks like they are sticking to their word, with the following Twitter update, as reported from TmoNews: ”@thephilbert Gingerbread is coming to the G2x soon. You won’t have to wait long.” The company also confirmed that they were already testing Gingerbread before the G2X launched, and that’s the main reason why users will not have to wait long for the update. Just how long though? We’re hoping that they are talking about a few weeks wait, rather than months. With that good news aside, it’s nice to see T-Mobile directly responding to questions about future software updates, and it’s certainly a contrast to users of Samsung handsets who are often pulling their hair out in frustration over lack of communication about their respective updates – Gingerbread for the Samsung S for example. Do you already have a G2X? If so, let us know your overall impressions of the device so far and your thoughts on T-Mobile’s quick response to the Gingerbread update. For more coverage: |
Nintendo Wii 2: Screen Stream Co-Op Gameplay Details Posted: 24 Apr 2011 09:16 PM PDT We have yet more leaked details on the Nintendo Wii 2 to bring you now, and again it’s pretty revealing. We have now learned that Nintendo’s next console will feature something known as ‘Screen Stream’ technology which is specifically related to the touchscreen controllers that will be included with the console. The details have surfaced from Slashgear, who have uploaded a few new images apparently of the Wii 2 which has been provided by a forum member over at Neogaf. It has been discovered that the Wii 2, also known as ‘Project Cafe’ will allow gamers to switch their gameplay from the TV screen, straight into the included touchscreen on the controller – opening up a vast array of exciting possibilities for co-op gameplay. For example, picture a four player split-screen co-op game of Call of Duty. One of the players decides he needs to go to the toilet and decides to take the action (providing Nintendo include Bluetooth of course) with him on the touchscreen controller. Nintendo’s ‘Screen Stream’ technology will apparently also allow gamers to take complete control of their screen on the controller, so you’ll be able to do things like pause the game individually and change your inventory/items etc without bothering the other three gamers playing with you. It sounds like a fantastic idea and one which we really hope turns into a reality. Don’t forget that these touchscreens will be 1080p supported so the experience on this portable screen won’t be downgraded from what you see on the TV – if anything, you may find it more enjoyable playing on a smaller screen in front of you. What are your thoughts and ideas behind this new Screen Stream technology – are you loving the idea? For more coverage: |
T-Mobile iPhone: White Prototype Model – iPhone 4 or 5? Posted: 24 Apr 2011 07:48 PM PDT We have some exciting news for those of you on T-Mobile, as this could be the biggest indication yet that a T-Mobile iPhone is finally on the way. A new screenshot has emerged of a White iPhone 4 running on T-Mobile, which is said to be an prototype model that Apple is currently testing. The image has been obtained exclusively by BGR, who are stating that this is a prototype with the model number N94. This is particularly interesting since the Verizon iPhone has a model name of N92, while the standard AT&T model bears a N90 model name – so this definitely seems like a genuine iPhone and not a fake. As you can see from the image through the link, the T-Mobile network can be seen at the top, while BGR also add that the iOS running on the device is another custom version like we saw in these videos, and there’s even some Apple employee apps as well. T-Mobile users have been waiting for this outcome for a very long time, and now it looks certain that the iPhone is definitely on the way. The interesting question is though, is this an iPhone 4 or an early look at the iPhone 5? It has been widely suggested that the new iPhone will look identical in appearance to the iPhone 4, so this could even be the first look at the iPhone 5 on T-Mobile – exciting stuff.
