White iPhone 4 gets sold early in the UK Posted: 23 Apr 2011 03:45 AM PDT Many of you have been waiting patiently for the illustrious white iPhone 4 to become available. We first told you a couple of weeks ago the handset was back on track to be released sometime this month. Then we have had the device appearing on carrier's websites and on inventory. Today we can tell you of someone who got sold one by mistake. Darren Murph over at Engadget is reporting that a white iPhone 4 got sold early in the UK. One lucky consumer went into a UK Vodafone store to buy an iPhone, and instead of getting the black 16GB model he was mistakenly given the white version. Straight after the sale happened, Vodafone sent out a notice to all its retail outlets to stop the sale of any more white iPhone 4s until next week. There has been a lot of talk the handset will be landing on April 27th so that fits in with latest news. So for now we will have to wait until next week to see if all these rumors of the white iPhone 4 are true. But there are many pointers that it is likely to be available next week. Will you be getting the white iPhone 4 if it comes out next week? For more coverage: |
Expect iPhone 5 news not release for WWDC 2011 Posted: 23 Apr 2011 01:57 AM PDT When this year started most people had one piece of iPhone news on their mind, and that focused on Verizon Wireless getting the Apple device, today this is not the case, and now the focus has shifted towards Apple news/rumors of the iPhone 5 and when it's expected to get a release date. Certain news sites, including Apple Insider and Reuters, are suggesting different dates for the production of the iPhone 5 to start, these range from July to September for production to begin, which would mean an iPhone 5 release either in Fall 2011, or maybe even January 2012. While the release is uncertain, most bloggers and news sites agree on one thing, the 5th generation iPhone will be delayed. With this in mind, some buyers have stepped into stores and bought the iPhone 4 rather than waiting many months longer. Is this you? There are several rumors floating around about specs of the iPhone 5, and with a later release we're sure to get improved specs, and a device less likely to have flaws, like the signal problems of iPhone 4. Apple may be leading the smartphone battle, although debatable, but to keep ahead they will need to offer something about iPhone 5 at WWDC 2011. This could be an unveiling of the finished product with a later release, or even a tease of certain features, not doing this will only cause some buyers to go elsewhere. Would you buy another device if Apple does not produce anything iPhone 5 at WWDC 2011? Read the latest news about rumors about iPhone 5. For more coverage: |
Top Group Buying Sites Explained Posted: 23 Apr 2011 01:31 AM PDT How many times have you purchased something for half the price what it should be? If you answer yes, then chances are you have used one of the top group buying sites. We have explained these kind of websites to our readers and family members for some time now, and at least I can say that some of them have now started to take advantage of these services. WSJ wrote an interesting article just over a year ago, and looked at how these top group-buying sites differed from each other. Some certainly do a much better job than others, but there is one thing that is the same with all of them – all the deals only last for a limited time only. If we could give you any advice, then we would suggest that if you see a deal that sounds good, then act on it fast. Knowing which is the best site to use will always be tough, as it all depends on what kind of deal you are looking for. However, ToMuse aims to make life a little easier by listing what they believe are the top ten best discount websites. We were shocked to learn of a few that we had never heard of before, but maybe you might have done? First on that list is LivingSocial and allows shoppers to get deals that are based on local stores in your area. What makes this website so different is its social networking aspect, as it allows you to share your deal with other people using the service – what better way to spread the word. Dealster has a huge inventory, and those who sign up to the service will receive emails when new offers become available. However, you have to purchase these vouchers, but the saving that can be made is worth the small fee. Finally we have the website that we have all heard off, Groupon. This is the one that launched the whole discount coupon craze, but it is not as popular as it once was. The reason for this is how other discount websites have come along and taken the idea and then gone that one-step further. ToMuse has an informative graph that looks at each of these websites, then shows you which countries and cities you can use them in, as well as what incentives they offer and if they have an app to go with it. One thing we do know, these websites are here to stay, but how will they change to keep up with newer and better sites that will pop up? For more coverage: |
PS3 gamer boredom while PlayStation network (PSN) down Posted: 23 Apr 2011 12:46 AM PDT You may wonder if the PS3 gamer is starting to suffer with boredom, as the PlayStation Network (PSN) is still down after almost three days now? Luckily I have been away for two weeks, but there are those of you who have been at home waiting by your PS3 in the hope that you can get back on, to enjoy a good game online. So what can you do to relieve the boredom while you wait for the Sony engineers to get the service back up? It is no secret that this issue has angered PSN users, especially when there had been no explanation why the PlayStation Network went down in the first place, but reading some of these comments here will give you a good idea of just how they feel. One thing we do know, this is certainly not doing Sony any favors. ZoKnowsGaming has come up with five things to do while the whole PlayStation Network down issue continues. One or two of them certainly seem like a great idea, such as taking in a movie or reading that book that has been sitting on the shelf for a few months. However, there are other ideas that do seem to be taking it a bit too far, such as playing a few board games with some friends instead. Yes playing these can be fun, but how many arguments have you had over the years while playing a game such as Monopoly? There are a few other ideas, but not to certain if you would ever go that far – who wants to talk on the phone to a friend for hours? What have you been doing to pass the time away, as you wait for PSN to go live once again? Update: Sony recently issued an update on the situation, which you can read for yourself on their blog. Nissan Leaf restarting problems, fix promised Posted: 22 Apr 2011 12:19 PM PDT We recently told you about the Mitsubishi 'I' under cutting the price of the Nissan Leaf in the US. But a more pressing issue has surfaced, as the Nissan Leaf has been experiencing restarting problems but a fix is promised by Nissan. Jonathan Welsh of The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nissan plan to start a service action involving 5,300 Nissan Leaf's. The vehicles are located in the US, European and Japanese markets and require a fix to a possible software flaw which could be causing the problems. The problem is that owners have been experiencing issues when trying to restart the Leaf after they were switched off. According to Nissan the problem has only been affecting a small amount of owners, and engineers have reprogrammed the cars to correct the problem. Nissan have chosen to perform a service campaign which is below a full recall because there is no threat to safety. The electric cars will not just shut down when being driven, but may not restart after being shut off. About 500 owners are in the US, and Nissan will send them a message via the on-board telematics systems asking them to contact a Nissan dealer to arrange a visit to correct the problem. Owners will also be contacted through the more usual methods as well. For more coverage: |

As Jon Jordan over at pocketgamer.co.uk recently noted, the new 'Camp Nowhere' update provides gamers with a second Campaign mode, which requires 30 days to survive. Verizon iPhone 5, 4G preamble and Will Strauss insight Posted: 22 Apr 2011 11:46 AM PDT The next version of the iPhone looks more likely to arrive sometime towards the end of the year, and in the mean time we continue to get more speculation what the next handset will feature. Now the Verizon has the iPhone, will this mean the Verizon iPhone 5 will have 4G capabilities? Brooke Crothers from Cnet recently spoke to Will Strauss who is President of wireless chip market research firm Forward Concepts. Tim Cook from Apple recently said “that the first generation of LTE chipsets force a lot of design compromises". Because of Cooks comments Strauss was asked why the iPhone 5 is likely not to have LTE chipsets. According to Strauss smaller chip designs and more integration will be needed before an iPhone is likely to have the feature. Cook also said that LTE is currently immature and Strauss believes Apple is not at fault, but wireless manufacturers currently have no true LTE handsets available besides the HTC Thunderbolt, but that is a workaround. It don't have a single LTE-3G chip, but has a LTE modem chip and a second 3G chip from Qualcomm for voice functions. At the moment no one can do voice over LTE, including Verizon and currently Samsung is the number one provider of LTE chips, but they are mainly for dongles. Integrated chips are expected to be available by 2012 so Apple will be able to use them then. So for now we will have to wait for technology to become available before we see a 4G iPhone, but with Apple and their track record you never know when they might surprise everyone. Would you like to see a 4G iPhone 5? For more coverage: |
Nintendo Wii 2: More ‘Project Cafe’ Rumors Surface Posted: 22 Apr 2011 10:14 AM PDT We've heard a number of rumors surrounding Nintendo's next generation Wii console – codenamed 'Project Café' – over the past week or so, including a report that suggested the device would be announced during the E3 event and another claiming that it would be more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3. There's even been a report suggesting that the Wii 2 would feature a touchscreen controller. According to Scott Lowe at ign.com, even more 'Project Café' rumors have surfaced online recently, including information about the price of the upcoming console, its design and a possible release window. Sources with knowledge of the new project say that based on the manufacturing costs, the Nintendo Wii 2 could possibly have a retail price of anything between $350 and $400. They also said that the device would be shipping from Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn in October this year. This puts the retail release window somewhere between mid-October and early November. IGN also reports that the overall size of the Wii 2 will be comparable to that of the original Xbox 360 console, and that it could well resemble a modern version of the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). It's also been reported that the upcoming system would be based on a reworked version of AMD's R700 GPU architecture, rather than AMD's Fusion technology as previously reported. As for the name of the much-anticipated device, reports say that Nintendo is considering calling it Stream. What are you hoping for in Nintendo's next generation console? For more coverage: |
Nissan Leaf undercut by price of Mitsubishi ‘i’ Posted: 22 Apr 2011 09:36 AM PDT Car manufacturers are making a big push into electric cars, and competition in the market is growing as the Nissan Leaf has been undercut by the price of the Mitsubishi 'I'. Alan Ohnsman from Automotive is reporting in an article that the electric Mitsubishi is almost $5,000 cheaper than the Nissan Leaf. The basic price for the electric car will be $27,990, but after the US tax credit the cost to customers will come in at $20,490. This will make the 'I' the cheapest electric vehicle in the country. While the Nissan Leaf starts at $32,780 before the tax credit comes into effect. Mitsubishi's North American chief executive Yoichi Yokozawa, said to reporters that the company wants to sell 2,000 vehicles to start with, and eventually achieve 20,000 or 30,000 per year. Nissan have started deliveries of their Leafs back in December, and is also looking to increase shipments from a few hundred per month to a thousand units per month. They are hoping to achieve 500,000 Leafs worldwide eventually. From Friday consumers in the US can begin pre-ordering the battery powered 'I', and depending on driving conditions it will manage around 85 miles on a single charge. The market for electric cars will probably grow as more vehicles become available and more charging stations are built. Will you ever consider an electric car? For more coverage: |
PlayStation Network (PSN) down, blog silence causes debate Posted: 22 Apr 2011 08:32 AM PDT Earlier today we told you that the PlayStation Network could be down for some time yet. We first reported about the problems yesterday morning after being contacted by some of our readers. The PlayStation Network has been down a while now, and the blog silence is causing some debate from PS3 users. There has been no update on the official PlayStation blog now for two days about the ongoing issues, and many people are commenting on the blog and are pretty fed up with the downtime. There has been renewed speculation that Anonymous may have had something to do with the problems. This could go down as the worst downtime the PlayStation Network has seen so far. Many PS3 owners are annoyed that Sony has not been updating them with what's going on, and have only said it could take a day or two without giving a more accurate time scale. We have also received many comments from frustrated gamers wanting to play online. We have had one reader who just purchased some online content for FIFA, before PSN went down. Many are frustrated as we now have the long Easter break to enjoy, but can't access PSN. Whether this is the work of outside groups, it is extremely frustrating for the normal gamer who just want to enjoy their PlayStation 3. Tell us what you think of this latest outage? Might & Magic: Heroes VI – PC Game Release Date Delayed Posted: 22 Apr 2011 05:45 AM PDT If you're one of the many PC gamers that are waiting for Black Hole Entertainment's much-anticipated turn-based strategy game Might & Magic: Heroes VI to arrive, then I'm afraid you'll be waiting a little longer than you originally expected. According to a recent article by Jay Acevedo over on the gamefocus.ca website, the upcoming PC game's release date has unfortunately been delayed. Rather than hitting stores in June as originally planned, the game won't be released now until September 8th. The news of the launch date being pushed back was confirmed both on the official forums and the Facebook page. The reason behind the delay is simply that the development team wants to make sure that the quality of the game goes beyond fans' expectations. Might & Magic: Heroes VI – which was officially revealed during last year's GamesCom event – will provide players with a host of new features including a town conversion functionality, a brand new reputation system, boss fights and online community features. The Heroes VI game is in fact a prequel to the main campaigns of the Heroes of Might and Magic V game, and takes place 4 centuries earlier in the world of Ashan. The game consists of five factions: Inferno, Stronghold, Necropolis, Haven and Sanctuary. Are you waiting to buy the Might & Magic: Heroes VI game? For more coverage: |
