Champion Wrestler Chases MMA Dream at R1 Gym in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA, May 04, 2011 –(PR.com)– Mark Dickman grew up in the sleepy river town of Hannibal, MO, made famous by one of America’s literary treasures, Mark Twain. Though the two share the same first name, Mr. Dickman chose a different art form to share with the world; Mixed Martial Arts.

The young Philippine-American had taken to combat sports early, winning the Missouri State High School Wrestling Title 3 times for the Hannibal High Pirates. Moving forward, Mark’s collegiate wrestling career was just as impressive, earning All American honors 4 times culminating in a 2007 NAIA National Championship for Lindenwood University of St Charles, MO.

After college, a quirk phone call from an old friend had taken Mark ‘The Freak’ Dickman to Springfield, MO and the Gracie Barra affiliated Springfield Fight Club. At the Fight Club, Dickman blossomed, transferring his wrestling skills and competitive mindset into his new found love of MMA. Mark went undefeated as an amateur lightweight winning the Cage of Honor, Midwest Cage Combat, Elite Cage Fights, Midwest ShoFight and the Fight Night Championship title belts (that’s five in all).

“Mark has a great pedigree for success in MMA, but now is when the real work starts. He will be living Japanese style at the gym while learning to live his art form. With a little patience and a lot of training Mr. Dickman will have the opportunity to excel as a pro MMA fighter at the highest level,” says R1 founder Rico Chiapparelli.

Hearing that, Dickman decided to take the leap of faith and relocate to the R1 Training Center in Inglewood, CA. Known as the ‘City of Champions,’ Inglewood is about as far from Hannibal, Missouri as you can get, but it is where ‘The Freak’ has taken up residence for his total immersion into the next level of his MMA career. Supported by a stellar team of professionals handpicked by Chiapparelli, the young Missouri native has been a little staggered by the experience.

“I’m living a dream!” exclaims the MMA neophyte, “Sometimes it is overwhelming but I am learning to live in the moment. Now is the time to make my dreams a reality and I’m not going to quit until my heart stops.”

Since arriving in Los Angeles, Dickman has been on a frantic pace soaking up all of the combat knowledge presented to him. He has rolled with a member of the Gracie family, advised by former Boxing great Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini and sparred with a few UFC fighters.

“There is always someone ready to punch, kick or submit me back to reality,” proclaimed the newly transplanted Californian.

A typical week for ‘The Freak’ will see him training with a variety of specialists; Boxing with R1’s Chad Wigle; Muay Thai with Bryan Popejoy at the Boxing Works; Kicks with R1’s Raj Kamachee; Strength & Conditioning with Zone Ready’s Doug Gizzi; sparring with BJJ ace Sean Williams or at Renato Magnos, StreetSports BJJ in Santa Monica; setting his mind straight with Pinnacle Performance’s Dr Mike Gervais.

Artists Clash to Raise Funds for Art Education

NYC 501(c)3 non profit Art For Progress (AFP) hosts its annual fundraiser May 13th -14th to support art education. With two nights of fashion, art and live music, there’s something for everyone. Both nights will feature the winning artists from AFP’s annual "Clash of the Artists" international competitions.

The festivities get started Friday evening with a Preview Reception from 6-7PM where guests can preview the artwork and meet the artists. Anthony Allport of Fine Wine Agency curated a special list of wines for the events. To be featured at the preview reception, Loring Wine Company donated a case of their 2009 Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir (600 cases). Enjoy gourmet bites while listening to a live acoustic performance from AFP artist Barry Komitor.

Interestingly, the work of all three visual artists is figurative in nature, but with very different results. From the modern realist work of 1st place winner Cameron Schmitz (Vergennes, VT), the emotionally charged work of Carmen Ghecca (Barcelona, Spain), to the imaginative abstract paintings of Pablo Damas (Fontana, CA), the show offers a wide range of perspective. Paula Collins (NYC), winner in the "Creative" category will be showcasing her accessory line as well. The exhibition will conclude on Sunday.

Celebrities wowed on the red carpet wearing a sea of red. Mark-Paul Gosselar, Paris Hilton, Pete Wenz, Kendra Wilkinson and many more all came out for this wonderful annual event. The MC for the night was dedicated Red Cross supporter and 11-time Emmy winner Christine Devine.

Five hundred guests dined on a delicious meal provided by renowned chef Nick Stellino.

Mexico's Children's Day was traditionally celebrated in Los Angeles this past weekend where Hispanic Children from around the Hollywood Area were treated to a Cri-Cri festival featuring characters created by Francisco Gabilondo Soler in 1934 which have come to be known across Latin America and the United States.

Children’s Day was celebrated with a free “Cri-Cri” festival spectacular for children of all ages from the Hollywood area. Held on L. Ron Hubbard Way, over 150 children and guests of all ages were treated to songs, acts and plays based on the fictional character “Cri-Cri” in celebration of Mexico’s Children’s Day.

Host and Emcee, Francisco Sanz Polo, 1st Grandson of the creator of "Cri-Cri" (Francisco Gabilondo Soler) introduced the original cartoons of the "Cri-Cri" character to the children in attendance which was followed by a live enactment of a dozen acts from the “Cri-Cri” musicals.

The event was entertaining and also educational with film showings of “The Way to Happiness,” (a common sense moral guide to better living containing 21 precepts) which included such precepts as “Love and Help Children,” “Be Industrious” and “Try to Treat Others as You Would Want Them to Treat You.” After the event “Cri Cri” posed with characters and children who each received their own photograph with the character and a copy of “The Way to Happiness” booklet.

About “Cri-Cri:” Cri-Cri is a fictional character, an anthropomorphic cricket, created by Francisco Gabilondo Soler in 1934 while broadcasting his own musical radio show on Mexico's station XEW. Cri-Cri is known as the "grillito cantor" or "the singing cricket". He is a character created by Francisco Gabilondo Soler in his childhood and has been described as a similar following among South American countries that Disney does for children in the United States.

Minot is an experienced vocalist who began singing in public at the age of 12. A Massachusetts native, she has sung the national anthem at Fenway Park and performed with the Rhode Island Pops. She has worked as a Music Therapist at The Friendship Network for seven years and is happy to support the organization's mission by head-lining this concert.

The concert is on May 7, 2011 from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Algonquin Regional High School, 79 Bartlett St. in Northborough, Massachusetts. Tickets cost $15.00 and can be purchased online or at the door.

Children from The Friendship Network will also perform, and students from The Friendship Network's Advocacy Group, The Student-to-Student Autism Connection, will give brief but powerful presentations sharing their experiences via poems and skits to raise autism awareness between musical acts.

Mark Hastings, an accomplished singer/songwriter, will be accompanying Minot and also perform a few tunes himself. Hastings is a long-time supporter of The Friendship Network.

A raffle and silent auction including a Bose Wave radio, sports memorabilia, and jewelry will add to the fun. Proceeds from the concert will benefit socialization groups and the advocacy program.

29th April 2011, Sydney: SomnoMed Limited (ASX: SOM) SomnoMed Limited announced today its results for the third quarter to March 2011. Unit sales reached a new record with 6,346 units, 30% higher than in the same quarter in the previous year, when sales reached 4,872 units. Third quarter sales edged ahead of Q2 sales, due to higher US sales in the month of March after the snow storm affected February low. European sales set new records with over 1,700 units for the quarter, 100% up on last year. Global unit sales for the nine months are just under 17,800 units.

Revenue numbers were affected by the strengthening Australian Dollar, resulting in March quarter dollar sales growing by 15% over the same period last year. Total revenue growth for the full 9 months is 18% (29% with constant exchange rates).

Total revenues for SomnoMed in the third quarter were just over $3 million, compared to $2.6 million in the same period in the previous year. SomnoMed's CEO Mr Ralf Barschow commented, "The results achieved in this quarter reaffirm our ability to continue to grow the unit sales and revenues of the business, particularly in Europe and the US within the Sleep Disordered Breathing industry. New sales records achieved in the March quarter for both regions are very encouraging for the remainder of the financial year."

"SomnoMed controls direct operations in three global regions, with Japan and Asia still at the development stage but still offering significant long term potential. The US and parts of Europe are regions in "take off" mode," said Mr. Barschow.

The ongoing investment in manufacturing, operations and logistics has again allowed SomnoMed to increase the gross margin of the business. SomnoMed's group gross margin has improved from 58% in the March quarter of 2010 to 67% in the same period for 2011 – a further record gross margin for the company. All regions continued to be operationally profitable, generating results well ahead of the corresponding period in the prior year.

SomnoMed Limited had $3.638 million in cash available at 31st March 2011.

Connolly employees and the company's owners donated more than $30,000 to the American Red Cross for assistance with Japan's disaster relief efforts. Connolly issued a company-wide bulletin shortly after the March 11 earthquake, describing the devastation and offering an organized avenue through which employees could join together to help. The privately held company has 23 offices throughout the U.S. and in Canada and the U.K. as well as remote locations from which auditors work. There are just over 800 employees.

"Our employees' response was phenomenal," Connolly HR Manager Mitch Podob said. He coordinated the fundraising effort from the company's Audit Support Center in Wilton, CT. "Many of our audit sites, and those in remote locations, supported the effort and held individual fundraising events including raffles of homemade brownies, gift basket donations and more," he said. "Then the owners generously offered to match the funds donated by the employees." Connolly had set a goal of raising $3,000 over a ten day period. Instead, employees donated and raised more than $15,000 and the owners matched it dollar-for-dollar for a total donation of $30,642.

The American Red Cross' David Wolff, Chief Development Officer, Connecticut Region came to the Wilton, CT Audit Support Center on Monday, April 25, to accept the donation. "We are very grateful for this donation, which will directly support the relief work in Japan," he said. "The Japanese Red Cross is very organized and will know just how to use the funds to make the biggest impact. This donation is beautiful, really incredible," he added.

"The mentees need a positive role model, friendship and someone who will listen, which helps them get through whatever challenges they are facing. That's exactly what I see the Connolly mentors doing so well." Mentees are identified by their school social workers as being in need of extra help due to self esteem and other behavioral issues. Mentors can choose a student from any grade in any one of 19 public Norwalk schools. Mentors spend an hour a week with their assigned student playing games, engaging in structured activities, or just listening. This is Connolly’s first year participating in the program which the internal Employee Activity Committee instigated. The EAC is an internal volunteer committee that provides community liaison opportunities and staff activities designed to encourage work- life balance for the nearly 200 Wilton Audit Support Center employees. The group is a highly visual representation that reinforces the values of the company.

"I got involved in the program to help a child in distress," said George Marrazzo, a member of the EAC He mentors an eight year old boy whose father is no longer a part of the family, and who is experiencing anger issues and other difficulties. "My goal is to provide stability and act as a role model."

"I work with a 12-year-old girl who lost her mother a few years ago and who attends the same middle school in Norwalk that I did," said Christina Askenback, also an EAC member. "She was recently adopted and I am an adoptee, so the social workers thought we would be well matched. It has been a great experience."

"I am mentoring a bright "at risk" 8th grader who moved from Brooklyn to Connecticut because his male role models were incarcerated," said Jason Lee, Manager, Data Services. "He had several outbursts his first year in Norwalk and was sent to a special school for six months, but now he is back in the regular school and is doing much better. His grades have gone up and he is even talking about college. I plan to mentor him next year as well."

The Norwalk Mentor Program recently celebrated "25 Years of Changing Lives" with a celebration at Norwalk's Stepping Stones Children's Museum which drew more than 400 people. The Connolly employees who are mentors work at the company's Audit Support Center in Wilton, Connecticut. Connolly was recently voted one of the Best Places to Work in Connecticut by the Best Companies Group.

The HPC cluster, to be installed by ClusterVision at the University of Bordeaux 1, comprises 528 Intel® Xeon® X5675 processors in the energy-efficient Dell PowerEdge™ C6100 servers. These 3168 cores will provide 38,852 Gflops of processing power for the Aquitaine region of France, ranking it among the current TOP500 supercomputers list. The University Bordeaux 1 leads an impressive consortium of universities and research institutes who are investing in this supercomputer to support leading-edge research in science and technology. Included in the group are four national institutes: INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique) for computer science; INRA (Institut National de Recherche en Agronomie) for biological research; INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale) for medical research; and CNRS (Centre National de Recherche Scientifique) to support research in all branches of science. The supercomputer will be installed at the "Université Bordeaux 1 Sciences et Technologies" IT facility in Talence, France.

This project is supported by the Aquitaine Regional Government with financial backing from the European Union and the European Regional Development Fund.

"This new supercomputer will bring scientists and engineers in the region unprecedented access to supercomputing resources," said Jacques Bernard, Supercomputing Manager for MCIA – Mésocentre de Calcul Intensif Aquitain. "Currently, researchers in the Aquitaine region must compete for time at other large national or European centers such as IDRIS, CINES or CCRT. They will soon be able to research faster and better serve the needs of industry in our region."
