L.A. Noire: New ‘Rising Through The Ranks’ Trailer Debuts

I don't think anyone can say there have not been enough trailers for the much-anticipated L.A. Noire game, as we've seen a fair few released over the past few months. This includes the 'Investigation and Interrogation' trailer, the one that revealed the online feature and the overview of the core mechanics.

Now we have even more good news for those of you that are looking forward to playing the upcoming open-world game, as according to a recent article by Ryan Fleming over on the digitaltrends.com website, the new 'Rising Through The Ranks' trailer has recently debuted online.

Rather than just giving players an overall objective, the L.A. Noire game – which is due to be released on May 17th for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – provides gamers with cases to solve. As they progress and succeed through the cases, they will be rewarded with brand new assignments.

The L.A. Noire game sees players having to work their way up through five different departments in the police force. Gamers – who take control of the game's main character Cole Phelps – begin the game as a patrol officer, and then work their way through traffic, homicide, vice and finally arson.

You can view the 'Rising Through the Ranks' trailer via the digitaltrends.com website. Are you looking forward to the arrival of the L.A. Noire game?

PlayStation Network outage could be for a while yet

We told you yesterday we were receiving reports of the PlayStation Network was down in some areas, but the problem seems to be a worldwide one and is still ongoing. Today we can report the PlayStation Network could be down for a while yet.

Jared Newman from PCWorld is reporting that the official PlayStation Blog is saying it may not be back up for a couple of days. Sony's Patrick Seybold posted on the site and said "While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we’re able to get the service completely back up and running".

Earlier in the day a post on the PlayStation Blog in Europe stated the company was looking at involvement of "an outside party", but this was later removed. Anonymous have also said they have nothing to do with the latest PSN downtime, and have recently said they would no longer target gamers in this way.

Hopefully Sony will be able to address the issue soon as the long Easter weekend gets underway, let us know if the PlayStation Network is still down for you.

Amazon servers go down hits FourSquare and HootSuite

Earlier today we reported to you that the Sony PlayStation Network was experiencing some down time. But it's not just Sony having technical difficulties today, as Amazon's cloud computing centre has been down for some time now.

The centre in North Virginia supplies services to a whole host of websites which include HootSuite, FourSquare, Reddit, and answer service Quora. Reddit's search service is out of action and posted that Amazon were working on it according to an article by Charles Arthur from guardian.co.uk.

The trouble started around 9.40 a.m. BST or 1.40 a.m. West Coast time, and is still ongoing at the time of writing. Amazon has so far not given any time scale for when the problem will be fixed. They run a few cloud computing centers and are designed so that if one goes down it doesn't take any of the others with it.

Amazon has also not given any reason for the outage in North Virginia, and has not redistributed any of the service it offers to other centers. Has this outage affected you?

N.O.V.A. Elite: Gameloft Launches New Online FPS for Facebook

When the N.O.V.A. Elite game was first revealed online a few weeks ago, many fans believed that it would be a multiplayer-only game for the iOS platform. However, it now appears that Gameloft has launched its new online FPS on the hugely popular social networking website Facebook.

According to a recent article by George Wong at ubergizmo.com, the video game developer's popular 3D first-person shooter series has gone from the small screen to the big screen. The N.O.V.A. Elite game incorporates the gameplay of the original title, but adds in social networking features.

For example, gamers will have the ability to create friends lists, and share both their progress and rewards with friends. The N.O.V.A. Elite game will of course be free to play, but players will have the option to spend money (Facebook Credits) on upgrading their online characters.

As Andrew Webster at gamezebo.com recently noted, the N.O.V.A. Elite game comes with some pretty impressive 3D visuals, which of course means that there are system requirements. Players must have 1GB RAM, 1GB or more of hard drive space and the Unity web player installed.

The game supports both Mac OS X systems and Microsoft Windows (dating as far back as Windows XP). You can view a trailer for the new game below this post. Do you have a Facebook account? If so, will you be playing the N.O.V.A. Elite game?
