Sigma DP2x compact camera: price and release confirmed

If you're looking to get yourself a new camera, then we have some exciting news for you today as Sigma's DP2x compact camera has just had its price and release confirmed by the company.

The DP2x was first announced back in February and now Sigma confirms the camera will be available at the end of April for $800. Probably the most interesting feature this camera possesses is its large FOVEON X3 sensor; supposedly twelve times larger than any sensor you would find cameras of this size.

The news comes from an article at Engadget which also explains that the DP2x main features are high-speed autofocus thanks to a new AF algorithm, RAW image support for manual controls, and a fixed 24.2mm F2.8 lens.

It also has a movie mode which will shoot clips at 320 x 240 which is not very impressive suggesting that this mode was an afterthought when it came to design. More details can be found at the link above where a full press release is featured.

What do you think of Sigma's new compact camera? Will you be getting one? Let us know in the comments below.

Kyocera Echo: Limited Quantities From Sprint

Kyocera Echo: Limited Quantities From Sprint

The Kyocera Echo is now ready for pre-order, but there is said to be limited quantities from Sprint – so you had better hurry if you wish to take ownership of one of these dual screen android handsets. Owners will not receive their new smartphones until April 17th, which only costs $199.99 after a $100 rebate.

There are a number of plans available for the new Kyocera Echo, which will depend on what you will use the device for, such as more calls or data. Plans starts from $69.99 all the way up to $179.99, there are also add-ons to these plans – so you better make certain you choose the correct plan for you.

Android Community picks up on the fact that the pre-order page is not all serious, as there is a game called Bottle Bustin' Bandits, which lets you take part in some gunslinger action. You have to like how Sprint makes the buying process of a game more fun than just spending your hard earned money. However, you have to admire how Sprint are trying to keep their business moving forward with the huge issue that the wireless company has with AT&T and T-Mobile.

When we first learned about the Kyocera Echo, it was announced as a device with "4-in-1 Versatility." We do not know if this will be the game changer that some have been talking about, only time will tell and so will the amount of pre-orders that Sprint take for the device.

Have you pre-ordered the Kyocera Echo?

T-Mobile and AT&T Acquisition: Sprint’s Concerns

T-Mobile and AT&T Acquisition: Sprint’s Concerns

The recent T-Mobile and AT&T acquisition announcement was always going to ruffle a few feathers, so came as no surprise by Sprint's concerns. It seems that the smaller mobile carrier believes that this new deal will not only harm consumers but also the competition as well. If this is the case, then we could see the U.S. government move in.

Currently Sprint is the third largest carrier in the U.S., but if this acquisition is to go through, then they will be the ones hit the most. AppleInsider has been hearing from Sprint, who has said that the past three years in the wireless industry will count as nothing if the deal were to go ahead.

If and when the deal goes through, then the joint might of AT&T and T-Mobile will be three times the size of Sprint when it comes to revenue. You have to wonder if there will be a place in the market for Sprint – especially as they still do not have the iPhone? The idea that Verizon and AT&T will dominate the market will surely not go down well with consumers and the U.S. government, and maybe this is what Sprint is hoping for?

There are those of you who believe that if one company wishes to buy another it is down two them, but you have to consider the implications if such a deal. The idea that Verizon and AT&T could make up almost 80 percent of the wireless industry is something that is not considered fair when it comes to competition, as surely it will be the consumer who loses out in the end?

Do you think that the AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile should go ahead? Where would it leave Sprint if it does?

HTC EVO 3D: Europe and UK Release Date Update

HTC EVO 3D: Europe and UK Release Date Update

We have some fantastic news for our readers in the UK and Europe now, as it looks as if you’ll be getting a nice surprise this year with the arrival of the HTC EVO 3D, the highly impressive handset that Sprint and HTC have just revealed over in the US.

It hasn’t been officially confirmed by a UK carrier yet, but a Tweet by HTC France has confirmed that the handset will be coming to France at least, and with the same name – which doesn’t happen very often. Usually when a US handset lands in Europe shores, it usually comes with a brand new personality, ie. the Motorola Droid> Motorola Milestone one prime example – but we’re delighted to hear that it will still be known as the HTC EVO 3D globally.

Since it’s coming to France, does that mean we can take it for granted that it will be out in the UK as well? – You bet. We’d even predict a UK carrier confirming a release within the next few days – we’re putting our money on Vodafone.

You can view the message from HTC France here, you may need a translator handy though if your French is not up to scratch. What are your thoughts on a possible UK and Europe release for the HTC EVO 3D? You can get a recap on specs here, is this handset a must buy for you?

iPhone 5 Sales Forecast: Market Share and Supply

iPhone 5 Sales Forecast: Market Share and Supply

There is no denying how popular the iPhone 4 has been and the iPhone models before that, so it is inevitable that the iPhone 5 sales forecast will be very healthy. There can be no reason why Apple will not be able to have a monopoly on the smartphone market, but they better hope that the market share will not be affected by demand and supply.

We have already learned that the iPhone 5 might not be at WWDC 2011, and could be delayed until Q1 2012. Apple has already said that the event will be all about iOS and Mac OS, and have made no mention of hardware – which does seem very strange and out of character.

Having said that, once the 5th-generation iPhone does get released, then 9 to 5 Mac believes that it will not only sell as well previous models, but more than all of them put together. There is a good reason for this sales forecast, one that you will be able to see in the chart from Asymco, which has been based on quarterly sales, which looks at how each new iPhone has doubled in sales.

However, we have to stress that this might not be the case next time round. We say this because Apple had a number of issues with the iPhone 5, as well as the fact that there are far-more rivals to the iPhone than there were one, two or three years ago.

Do you believe that the iPhone 5 – when released – will still be able to outsell all over smartphones?

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City – First Screenshot Scans Show Graphics

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City – First Screenshot Scans Show Graphics

We have more details on Capcom’s huge announcement about a brand new game called Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City that is on the way. We now have the entire magazine scans for you to check out, from which the game was first leaked online.

Those scans come from the Official PlayStation France Magazine, and we’re pleased to say that fr.ultimate-re.com have uploaded each page for you to enjoy. We won’t upload the scans here just in case Capcom don’t like it, but you can check them out here and click on each image to enlarge so you can see the first images for yourself.

On first glances, we have to say that the graphics don’t appear to be up to next gen standard, as they look more PSP-ish to us, although this may be a very early build of the game, so we’re definitely not criticising just yet – the game is due on Xbox 360 and PC as well just to let you know.

Take a look at the scans for yourself through the link and let us know what you think. Do you have anything to say on the quality of these graphics, or is it too early to say until we get some proper high resolution images? We’ll inform you when we hear more.

Japan Auto Production Suspended or Slowed

Japan Auto Production Suspended or Slowed

Many companies have been finding it tough to operate after the devastating effects following the Japanese earthquake, and it is Japan’s Auto Production that's seems to be hit the most. We already know that production had to either be suspended or slowed, but we are very surprised that shares in the big three companies (Toyota, Honda and Nissan) has not been hit.

Having said that, the increase in shares is only for the short term, and we have been warned by a report in BusinessDay that operating profit for Toyota – the biggest of the three – could see it reduced by 84 percent in its next business year. If this forecast does come true, then things could become much worse for Japan as a country.

Some assembly lines were on the coast of Japan when the tsunami hit, which caused the production loss of 40,000 vehicles. We have already seen the effects of this hit other countries. It is no secret that other automakers source items from Japan, such as Ford who orders in certain pigments from Japan. It now seems as though the Blue Oval has had to cancel the production of all black vehicles.

This certainly gives you a small taste of how bad the situation is for the auto industry, and that is without thinking about the much larger market – Consumer electronics.

This is yet another blow for automakers, as they have only just managed to fight their way out of a recession. However, the Japanese has had it hardest, as they have been marred by a succession of recalls. Let us hope that production can get back to what it was before the terrible event.

Captain America Super Soldier: Game Release Date and First Trailer

We have some good news for those of you who are planning to pick up the Captain America movie-based game this year, as we have the very first detailed trailer for Captain America Super Soldier for you to take a look at.

We first told you about this game a long time ago, last year in fact and most recently, we gave you some information that the game will be out this Summer. However, we can now confirm that Captain America Super Soldier will be release on July 19th in the US, and July 15th in the UK on multiplatform.

The trailer is pretty generous at around 1 minute and 20 seconds long, and it also gives you a good look at the standard of graphics in the game. We admit that they aren’t amazing, and you may be pretty disappointed to hear that SEGA are once again at the helm of another Marvel movie-based game, especially since they murdered the Iron Man games. It could have been oh so different if someone like Rocksteady had been chosen instead.

Anyway, the game is out in July. Will you be picking it up, or is just seeing the movie enough for you? Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think of it.

E3 2011 Vs WWDC 2011: What Event Will take your Preference?

We are approaching the business end of the year and if you’re a tech lover and gaming lover, you’re going to be spoilt for choice in June. We’ve just told you the confirmed dates for Apple’s WWDC 2011 event, and it also means that the event will take place during the same time as E3 2011, the gaming industry’s biggest spectacle too.

In case you missed the news over the last few hours, WWDC 2011 will take place between June 6 and June 10th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, just like we told you here although the dates have been altered slightly. However, anticipation for their event may have declined considerably though, as we’re hearing that the company will NOT be showing off any new hardware, including the iPhone 5. Instead they are set to focus on iOS 5 and a new version of Mac OS X.

Apple’s event falls in line with E3 2011, which will take place on June 7- June 9th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Nothing major has been announced for the gaming event yet, as everything is usually kept under lock and key, unless you’re Sony of course and everything is leaked days before the event starts – let’s see if it happens again this year! We doubt we’ll see any major new hardware at E3 2011 other than the Sony NGP, but we’re secretly hoping that Microsoft drop a big bombshell on the successor to the Xbox 360 – aka the Xbox 720 as it’s more commonly known.

Which both events already scheduled, which one will take your preference? It may be hard to keep track of both at the same time on June 7th, so will you just watch one rather than the other? Do you consider yourself to be more of a tech fan or gaming fan? We’ve created a poll below and we’re interested to see where your priorities lie.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Samsung Galaxy S i9000: Download Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread Update Now

Yesterday we informed you that a Gingerbread build had leaked out for the Motorola Droid 2 and Droid X handsets, but now we have some good news for those of you in possession of the Samsung Galaxy S, with the i9000 model number.

A new Gingerbread ROM has just been released for the Galaxy S too, and it appears to have once again surfaced from the guys over at XDA Developers Forums. From what we gather, this ROM is an official version of Gingerbread, Android 2.3.3 which Samsung are planning to bring to Europe in the coming months, as reported from Phandroid.

You can enjoy it right now of course, if you’re willing to give the download a go. If you’re interested, head to the XDA Forums here, download the ROM and follow the installation instructions. However, make sure you know what you’re doing as we won’t be responsible for any bricked devices. Judging by the feedback though, this build works perfectly so there is no reason why you shouldn’t try it.

Do you already have an unofficial version of Gingerbread running on your Galaxy S? If so, will you attempt to install this latest 2.3.3 version or wait until Samsung release it properly?

Google Nexus Tablet by LG: Release Date Hints and Your Opinions

Following on from the aftermath of tablet announcements at CES 2011, MWC 2011 and CTIA 2011, we are hearing rumors that a new challenger may be entering the fray. That challenger is none other than Google as there are whispers that they may be planning to bring a Nexus tablet to market.

Yes that’s right, a Google Nexus tablet to join along side the Google Nexus S which is already available. However, perhaps the most interesting aspect of this, is that it may be built by LG, according to Mobile-Review as translated by BGR.

This may be a surprise manufacturer of choice for some of you, so how do you feel about this? Would you be happy with LG building the device, or would you prefer the likes of Samsung, who built the Nexus S, or HTC who built the first Google Nexus phone and have seemingly fallen out of favor with Google these days.

The source also states that this Nexus Tablet may be releasing sometime during Summer, or into the early part of Autumn, meaning we could see this thing on the shelves in September. It is an exciting prospect for sure, as it may even be the first device to ship with Google Ice Cream OS, the next version after Honeycomb – now that would be worth looking forward to.

Give us your thoughts on the idea of a Nexus tablet by LG – Good business move or not?

Mortal Kombat 2011 Characters: Final Roster List Satisfaction and Top Picks?

Yesterday we brought you an image which appeared to show the complete Mortal Kombat 2011 character roster list, and it now appears that the image is indeed real and the fighters shown are the core characters that will be available on the disc, with the inclusion of Kratos for the PS3 version as well.

If you haven’t seen the image, check it out again below. It looks like there are 28 fighters to choose from if you include Kratos not shown in the image, while one of the character boxes appear to be a random select option since it shows the same fighter in the bottom left and right corners.

And that fighter is of particular interest as well, as it reveals the inclusion of Cyber Sub Zero – a character whose identity is shrouded in mystery and has yet to be unveiled by NetherRealm Studios. We’re thinking they are pretty annoyed right now since this image has leaked out weeks before the game goes on sale officially.

Anyway, its out there so we may as well discuss what we can see. Out of the fighters shown, the new ones we can pick out (view bigger version here) are Kabal, Sheeva, Quan Chi and Human Smoke – sporting that crazy looking afro. Are you happy with the final choices, or are you disappointed that some characters have been left off the list?

For example, we know that Rain from Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a fan favorite, and if you have Cryax, Sektor and Cyber Sub Zero in there, why not include Robot Smoke as well – he was pretty bad ass in Mortal Kombat 3. Dont forget though, Ed Boon already stated that we would be seeing most of the characters from MK1-MKT so Rain and Robot Smoke may still come later via DLC, just like Kenshi and Scarlet who have already been announced.

Let us know your thoughts on the final roster list, and which character you are going to be using the most.

iPhone 5 Summer Release Unlikely, Will Apple Show Hardware at WWDC 2011?

iPhone 5 Summer Release Unlikely, Will Apple Show Hardware at WWDC 2011?

It seems impossible to think it would happen, but a few hours ago we were facing the prospect of a WWDC 2011 event without the announcement of the iPhone 5, the device which many of you had taken for granted would be the main eventer for Apple’s annual event in San Francisco.

We want to talk a bit more about that now, as although it hasn’t been confirmed that there won’t be any new hardware at the event, the program notes from Apple confirmed that the main areas of interest will be focusing on iOS and Mac OS X.

If you cast your minds back to last year, you’ll remember that Steve Jobs took to the stage at WWDC 2010 and officially announced the iPhone 4 to the world, along with the name change of OS to iOS. It is strange to think that we won’t see any hardware at this years event, perhaps Apple are just trying to throw us off guard to build up anticipation even further?

There is specualtion growing that Apple will now announce the iPhone 5 at their fall event instead, and just stick to software at WWDC 2011. Dare we say it though – it will be pretty disappointing if they do. We want an iPhone 5 this Summer Apple, don’t let us down.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you still in shock about the possibility of no iPhone 5 at WWDC 2011? Share your thoughts with us in our poll below.

Volkswagen Recall 2011: Jetta Model List and Serious Wiring Issue

Volkswagen Recall 2011: Jetta Model List and Serious Wiring Issue

We have some very important news to give you now, as we can confirm that a new Volkswagen recall has been issued for 2011, and it affects those of you with a new Jetta model. The recall status is tagged voluntary, but the problem is still a very serious one which you need to be aware of.

The problem is due to a wiring fault, a pretty bizaare one actually, as it has been revealed that using the horn on the new jetta models can cause the motor to turn off suddenly due a short circuit, increasing the risk of a serious accident or injury.

To go into more detail, Volkswagen has stated that the recall affects Jetta models produced between March 2010 and March 2011, and the exact problem lies in the fact that a fuse secures both the anti-theft alarm system and horn that could become faulty – although no injuries or accidents have been reported yet, according to WSJ.

If you own one of the latest 2010 or 2011 Volkswagen Jetta models, you don’t need to do anything as Volkswagen will be notifying you with details on the recall and when they will take your motor in for service. However, if you have any questions right now, you can call Volkswagen on 1-800-822-8987. Let us know your thoughts on this recall – are you surprised that this has been caused by a wiring configuration issue?
