Motorola Xoom UK, Germany Price: Cheaper Than iPad

Motorola Xoom UK, Germany Price: Cheaper Than iPad

There has been much speculation over the Motorola Xoom price for UK and Germany, so we are pleased to be able to offer you the official price for both countries. Before we go in to detail, we thought you would be interested to know that it is much cheaper than the current iPad.

We were so lucky to have been looking on the PC World UK website today, as we have found a little gem. The price of the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi only model will be just £450, that's £60 cheaper than the 32GB iPad alternative. However, we do have to remember that Apple is to hold their iPad 2 media event tomorrow, and there are some suggestions that a price drop could be announced for their current tablet device.

We do not know for certain when the Xoom will release in the UK, there had been suggestions of April, but we now expect it to be some time this month. PC World UK is now offering this up for pre-order, but as yet the button is not working. No matter how many times we try it just takes us to the top of the page.

Those of you living in Germany and have been waiting on pricing for the Motorola Xoom, then Android Community has learned that the price will be €699.95. Do not be put off by this price, as this is the Wi-Fi and 3G model. Looking at the price of the iPad equivalent, it works out to just €1 more. Currently there is no way to pre-order the new Honeycomb tablet on T-Mobile German website.

Are you happy with the pricing, did you think it was going to be cheaper or more expensive?

Army Strong Stories: Blogging iPhone App for U.S Army Troops Recruitment

Yesterday an iPhone app named Army Strong Stories was launched for the U.S army. It allows users access to a mobile website that was also launched, in which Soldiers can share their 'Army Strong Stories' with other Soldiers, allowing for comments whilst offering more information about Army service for those potential new Soldiers.

This adds to the commitment to engaging potential recruits through social media and other media avenues that has already been going on. According to PR Newswire sources, one out of two U.S citizens will have a smartphone by 2012, meaning more Soldiers will also own a smartphone. This is why mobile content is a priority for communication amongst Soldiers wanting to keep in touch.

The app features direct links to the official U.S Army recruitment site GoArmy, access to Army information instantly for those that wish to learn more about it and allow uploading of videos, pictures and written content.

Over 600 bloggers are already on Army Strong Stories. Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley says the app will be a 'great advantage to the U.S army' as it keeps them current with the latest technology when it comes to sharing their stories.

What are your thoughts on this app? Let us know what you think.

L.A. Noire: Pre-Order Bonuses Available as DLC After Launch

Just last week, Rockstar Games revealed the numerous pre-order bonuses that specific stores in the UK and US are offering those who pre-order a copy of the much-anticipated L.A. Noire game. Now the publisher has announced that the content will eventually be available as DLC.

According to a recent article over on the xboxaddict.com website, Rockstar Games confirmed that all the pre-order bonuses will be made available as DLC, but not until some point after the game – which will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 – launches in the US on May 17th and in the UK on May 20th.

The pre-order bonuses include content such as suits, and gameplay missions. As Tamoor Hussain over at computerandvideogames.com recently reported, pre-ordering the game from UK retailer GAME or US retailer GameStop will give you "The Badge Pursuit" challenge and "The Naked City" vice case.

Meanwhile, pre-ordering the L.A. Noire game at either Amazon or Amazon UK will net you the "Broderick detective suit," which is said to boost the players' resilience to damage as well as their fist fighting capabilities. If you pre-order from Walmart, you get the "A Slip of the Tongue" traffic case.

Finally, if you decide to pre-order the game from Best Buy or Zavvi in the UK, you will receive "The Sharpshooter" detective suit. Have you pre-ordered the game from any of these stores yet? If not, do you think you will be pre-ordering it?

iDisplay App For Android 2.1 or Later, Productivity Increase

iPhone and iPad owners have enjoyed the iDisplay app for sometime, however those with Google's mobile OS will be pleased to know that iDisplay App for Android 2.1 or later is now available. Productivity will now be increased for a number of Android handsets, as you can increase your viewable area from the screen on your handset to the display on your monitor.

This app is perfect if you like to multitask, as your viewable area is expanded, so you can take certain programs and move them from your phone to your monitor and vice versa. I have never been one to do this, but my brother used to be a huge fan when he was a Windows users. However, this app does support Mac OS as well.

The iDisplay app costs just $4.99 and is a small price to pay if it can make you work much faster. Some of the main features include dragging items from one screen to another, view the same image on both displays, and also support for both portrait and landscape. More details can be found on the Android Market Place.

There are so many applications that this could work for, if you find that you need more space on one display compared to the other, then you cannot go wrong. However, we have to wonder how many people would use such an app? The likes of you and I do not need to sue it, but you can be sure that there are those who do. Is this an app that you need?

Asus Eee Slate EP121: Windows 7 Tablet Gets UK Release Date

We have good news now for those of you that are waiting to hear about a UK release date for the upcoming Asus Eee Slate EP121 Windows 7 tablet (which was shown off at the CES 2011 event), as we've just received word that both PC World and Currys will be selling the device from April.

According to a recent article by Rob Coppinger over at theinquirer.net, the Eee Slate EP121 won't be the only Asus tablet PC that goes on sale in April, as the company is also launching another two tablets in the UK that month – the 10-inch Eee Pad Transformer and the 10-inch Eee Pad Slider.

Asus has recently announced that both the Eee Pad Slider and the Eee Pad Transformer will come with Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, which as Peter Chubb previously mentioned (see the article here) is what the company already claimed at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

The Asus Eee Slate EP121 Windows 7 tablet features a 12.1-inch touchscreen LED display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, an Intel Core i5 CPU, 802.11n wireless support, 2 USB ports, Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel dual webcam, a card reader, a mini-HDMI port and 32GB/64GB of SSD storage.

As for the Eee Pad Slider, this device features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera, a 5-megapixel rear facing camera, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 Chip and an NVIDIA GPU. The Transformer also uses the NVIDIA CPU and GPU, and features a detachable keyboard.

Unfortunately there is no word on UK pricing for the said tablets at this stage. You can view a video of the Asus Eee Slate EP121 being introduced during the CES 2011 event below this post. Do any of the Asus tablets sound interesting to you?

Call Of Duty: Black Ops: 501-8 Kills Video Gets Players Banned

Call Of Duty: Black Ops: 501-8 Kills Video Gets Players Banned

Here is some interesting news for those who love spending their time killing lots of soldiers in Call of Duty: Black Ops. This week a video on YouTube became hugely popular amongst gaming fans and the gaming world.

As reported by The Red Dragon at Battle Strats, the video is of a ridiculous massacre during an online Demolition game on the Havana map. The player had managed to get 501 kills by the end of the game with only 8 deaths. The actual game lasted a lot longer but is sped up for the sake of viewing.

From the video you can see that the player's team seemed to have the spawn points of the opposing team on lock-down, and the players being massacred only had time to die when they re-spawned. It also appears there were a few players helping on the other team.

The new found fame for the players involved was short lived however, as Activision have now banned their accounts for now and taken away their ranks after seeing this video. They argue that what they did is a form of boosting, therefore not allowed.

Check out the video for yourself. What do you think? Did Activision do the right thing banning them? What else should be done about this? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

No Nintendo Wii 2 Yet: Sales Impact

No Nintendo Wii 2 Yet: Sales Impact

The Nintendo Wii is just over four years old, and is their 7th-generation console. There is no denying how popular this console was and still is, as it was considered a game changer. The news that there will be no new Nintendo Wii 2 yet has surprised us all, as we have all seen the sales impact since the Xbox 360 and PS3 moved in on the motion-sensor market.

Speaking at a recent event, Satoru Iwata, from Nintendo confirmed our fears that they have no plans for a new version of the Wii just yet; they will only consider this once the console has reached its limit. According to Neo Gaf Forums, Nintendo has yet to run out of ideas for their console, so will still back its current Wii.

The Wii has been dropping in sales in recent months, just last month it was in 4th place with worldwide sales of just 164,078. Now compare that to the best selling console last month, the PS3 had 203,532 sales. This is a far cry from a few years ago, when Sony's console used to struggle to compete with the likes of not only the Wii, but also the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo DS.

Having said that, the new 3DS is now out in Japan, and will not be long before it is released to the rest of the world. We expect this new portable games console to dominate the market, as its predecessor once did. We understand why Nintendo would say that they do not want to develop the Wii 2 yet, because it might have the same 10-year cycle as the Xbox 360 and PS3 is said to have.

Do you believe that Nintendo should release the Wii 2 sooner rather than later?

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Game Heading to iOS Devices

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Game Heading to iOS Devices

Some of you may already be familiar with the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing game, having been released for the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 back in 2010. We've also heard that the game is now heading to iOS devices.

As Marin over on the intomobile.com website noted, Sega allowed them to have a sneak preview of the upcoming iOS version of the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing game recently, although it was an early alpha build they looked at so they couldn't really judge the game yet.

There appears to be two ways of controlling the vehicles in the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing game. Players can either tilt the device to steer, as well as hitting the on-screen drifting buttons and brakes, or if they prefer they can use the on-screen d-pad.

One of the major appeals to the upcoming iOS game in Marin's opinion is the list of characters that you can choose to race with. Besides having Sonic as an obvious choice, you also have the option of Tails, Dr. Robotnik and many others including Ryo from Shenmue.

Although the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing game doesn't feature Game Center support at this stage, Sega has hinted that the final version will have the feature. We may not have an exact release date yet, but we do know that is due to arrive on the Apple App Store this spring.

You can view a video for the upcoming game – which will be available for the iPhone and iPod Touch – below this post. Have you already played the PC or console version of the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing game? If so, do you think you'd enjoy playing it on your iOS device?

7-Inch Motorola Xoom Possibility, or New Model?

7-Inch Motorola Xoom Possibility, or New Model?

Motorola's first tablet has not even been available for a week, and there is already talk of a 7-Inch Motorola Xoom Possibility. However, we are not certain if this new model will part of the same family or will be the start of a new range? One would presume that they would follow the same route as Samsung with their Galaxy Tab, and stick with the same name?

We cannot see why they would want to launch a smaller tablet with a new name, as this could become just as confusing as the range of Android phones on the market. However, there could be some benefits why they would want to do this, as they would be one of the first to offer more than one tablet device from their range.

Motorola has only been in the tablet game for less than a week, and some may feel that they are trying to run before they can walk. According to BGR, Motorola will launch a 7-inch version of their tablet later this year, but we do not have any of the technical details as yet.

Will the new model come with Honeycomb, or will it be made just for Gingerbread? We do know that if it did come with the latter, then our best guess would be that it would have just a single-core processor. If this were the case, then maybe they are targeting the lower to mid-end tablet sector?

Motorola could be on to something here, but they need to make certain that they are doing the right thing. Steve Jobs said that a 7-inch tablet is pointless, and low Galaxy Tab sales seem to support this, but what do you think?

iPhone 5: New Hardware Parts reveal Alleged Slide-Out Keyboard

iPhone 5: New Hardware Parts reveal Alleged Slide-Out Keyboard

There has been all sorts of rumors flying around in relation to the iPhone 5 and what sort of display screen it will possess, but now we have solid information which reveals that the device may feature a slide-out keyboard with a physical keypad.

A photo has been published over at Apple.pro and it shows a 30-pin dock connector cable and a ribbon, both of which are apparent parts for the upcoming Apple iPhone 5. The part is labelled 821-1300-02 HF/c1 just for your reference.

You may recall that Taiwanese website Apple.pro is the same website that first brought pictures of the White iPhone 4 prior to WWDC 2010, and they are also known for providing details on upcoming Apple Macbook leaks too.

This isn’t the first time that the possibility of an iPhone device with a slide-out keyboard has been mentioned. We ran a poll a few weeks back asking just how many of you would relish the prospect of a hardware keyboard on the iPhone and the results are completely divided. You can still vote on that poll here if you’re interested.

Do you think these parts are for the iPhone 5 or not? It’s still uncertain whether Apple will bring a variety of iPhone hardware revisions to WWDC 2011, or just the one model. Definitely an exciting time for iPhone owners though.

Cheaper iPhone 5, shouldn’t be just for the rich

Cheaper iPhone 5, shouldn’t be just for the rich

Tim Cook Apple's chief operating officer has suggested in an interview that the company could release a cheaper handset, which could appeal to the pre-pay market. There has been a lot of talk recently that apple may be considering a cheaper handset, but so far this has only been speculation.

Chris Smith over at TechRadar is reporting that Cook met the analyst Toni Sacconaghi last week, and Sacconahi claims that Tim Cook said he doesn't want Apple to be “just for the rich.” He also claims to get into the pre-pay market, Apple are planning something “very clever”.

Last week there were reports by The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg claiming that Apple was planning to launch a lower priced smartphone available contract free.

Rumors of a cheaper iPhone are nothing new, with talk of a so called iPhone Nano device mentioned before. But with the current financial climate offering cheaper products could prove quite fruitful for Apple; many people want a smartphone these days but can't afford an iPhone.

The iPhone has proved to be a massive success for Apple but times change, the company has much more competition now with numerous Android smartphones now available. So to have more than one handset will give Apple a wider audience and improve its figures even more.

Do you think Apple offering a cheaper handset would be a good move?

Nook Color Gets Price Drop: Retailer Competition

Nook Color Gets Price Drop: Retailer Competition

While looking around on eBay last night we came across something that may be of interest to you, a Nook Color price drop. There could be a number of reasons why Barnes & Noble has done this on their official eBay store page, but our best guess is that it is retailer competition. What this means is that they wanted to try and compete with other cheap prices that had started to appear on the Internet.

The usual price is $249.00, but once you apply the eBay coupon code you will get $50 off, as well as free shipping. The Nook Color was a very popular device when it first launched, but with a price tag of just $199 it is now a more attractive devices to read your eBooks on. We cannot be certain how long this deal will go on for, so you best not ponder too long.

So it does look as though Barnes & Noble are trying to compete with other online stores, but is there more to it? The company knows that they not only have to compete with other eReaders, but also tablet device as well. The reason for this is that they are able to gain access to the Kindle Store, such as the iPad, and with a new version coming out soon; the market is set to get a whole lot tougher.

The biggest rival to the Nook Color is Amazon's Kindle; both have their good and bad points, so it just comes down to what you want from the device. The Nook has more style, while the Kindle has a much better screen and battery life. So if you are do not care what a device looks like, then the best choice has to be the Kindle – its also cheaper as well.

Will the price reduction persuade you to purchase the Nook Color, or is $199 still too expensive?

Free Consumer Reports on Used Cars: Best and Worst

Free Consumer Reports on Used Cars: Best and Worst

Over the past few months we have offered you tips and guides to not only stay safe on the road, but to help you make the right choice when purchasing a new vehicle. However, for those looking for a more in-depth guide then there are a number of free consumer reports on used cars. Here we will take a look at the best and worst vehicles on the road today.

Some of us always look to save money when buying a car, so instead of buying new we opt for used instead. This is a very good way to go about getting yourself a car, as you can often save just under 50 percent when the car is about 3 years old. The models that Consumer Reports looked at were made from 2001 to 2010, and you will see on the list that it is the Asian cars that offer the best used value.

Ford has also been another brand that seems to offer more of a bargain when buying used compared to the likes of BMW and Audi. We are not too certain why this is, but one would presume that these vehicles seem to age more gracefully than their Asian counterparts, such as Toyota and Honda. This is great news if you own a German vehicle and wish to sell, but not if you are the one in the market for buying.

We have to remember that it is not all about the value of the car, it is also about how reliable they are, and we can clearly see that it is the Honda Fit that is the best of the small cars. The Toyota Prius takes the top spot for best family and Acura RL for family car.

Its not all about the good ones though, some of the least reliable cars on the market include the Audi A6 (2.7T, 3.0T), BMW X5, Chevrolet Impala (V8) and many more. The list is pretty big, and for more details on the best and worst then visit the Consumer Reports website.

What have you found to be the best and worst reliable cars over the years?

Apple iPad 2: Release Date Looms, Possible First Picture

Apple iPad 2: Release Date Looms, Possible First Picture

As Apple’s March 2nd iPad 2 event is almost upon us, we have to tell you about an image we’ve come across which could turn out to be a very close representation of Apple’s next iPad model.

The image has surfaced from BGR, and has been provided by an anonymous tipster. They have since updated their article to say that while this isn’t an official render as such, it could still be an accurate design of what the new device will look like. Without further ado, let’s take a look at it:

As you can see, the design favors an aluminium design around the back, complete with a rear camera and a brand new speaker. You’ll also see that the branding still contains ‘iPad’, rather than ‘iPad 2′ as some of you may have been expecting. It’s a shame that we can’t see the front of the device to see if the aluminium design is spread all over, or if the device will include a front-facing camera.

Apple’s event is tomorrow, so we will all find out very soon. Take a look at the picture closely above and let us know your thoughts on it. Would you be happy if the official iPad 2 ended up something like this, or would you prefer a different color / design?

Portal 2: New Screenshots for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 at GDC 2011

We have a treat for Portal fans now, as in the midst of GDC 2011, Valve has just released a fresh batch of screenshots for the upcoming Portal 2 game, which releases on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC platforms next month.

There are 14 new screenshots in total, and you can view them all in high quality over at VG247 here. Dont forget for the first time, you’ll now be able to play Portal 2 on the PS3, and Valve has said it will be the best console version of the game since one of the main features will be cross platform play with PC gamers – a feature which we can’t wait to try out.

The big release date is April 22nd and if you’re unfamiliar with the franchise, you’ll probably want to check out this first look preview of the game which we’ve found over at Wired. For those of you who have played the first title, let us know your expectations of Portal 2.

We’re also interested to know how Xbox 360 owners feel about Portal 2 – Are you disappointed that the PS3 will have the best version? We’re sure you’ll be smiling once GTA 5 comes around though, if Microsoft decide to purchase exclusive content again.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9: Release Date at CTIA 2011?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9: Release Date at CTIA 2011?

We’ve only just told you about the impressive looking, upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 device, but now we have confirmation that Samsung will be planning to bring another slightly smaller version of the Galaxy Tab to market very soon.

Samsung has been sending out invites to their Mobile Unpacked event at CTIA 2011 which will start on March 22nd over in Florida USA. Take a look at the accompanied picture they sent out with the invites, as reported by Engadget.

As you can see, the numbers 78910 are featured, which is obviously a hidden confirmation that the company are planning to release an 8.9-inch version of their Galaxy Tab to join the original 7-inch model and the upcoming 10.1-inch premium version.

The question here is though, do we really need another Galaxy Tab to think about? We feel that the 10.1-inch version is more than enough, and the inclusion of another 8.9-inch device may only serve as a confusion for consumers. Samsung on the other hand, obviously feel that the time is right to capitalize on the success of their original Galaxy Tab by offering one more version for consumers.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you be interested in this 8.9 Galaxy Tab or do you think they are over-doing it? We’ll let you know once we hear of any hardware changes for this model.

Samsung Galaxy S: 2.3.2 Gingerbread Update – Download Now

We’ve now swiftly moved into March of 2011, and yes, we’re still going to tell you about Froyo and Gingerbread updates for Samsung handsets. This time however, it’s good news as a new leaked version of Gingerbread is now available to download.

The important thing here, is that this isn’t a custom Gingerbread ROM that has been created by users, instead this is an OFFICIAL Samsung build which has somehow found it’s way onto the internet.

As Phandroid reports, the download link has been posted over at this Polish forum, and judging by the amount of comments, it’s the real deal. It’s pretty bizaare though how this has managed to leak out, at a time when Samsung are STILL yet to get Froyo out on all promised devices.

We can bet that this download won’t stay up forever, so if you’re looking for some official Gingerbread action on your Galaxy S handset, you should download this straight away. You’ll need to own the i9000 exact model of the Galaxy S for this to work. Let us know how you get on if you decide to try this.

We recently told all Captivate owners that the official Froyo update was landing soon, but you can forget about that now – it’s all about Gingerbread.

LG Optimus 2X: UK and Europe Release Date Updated by LG

We have some good news for those of you in Europe who are desperately trying to get your hands on the ‘world’s first’ dual-core smartphone, as we have a release date update for the LG Optimus 2X to share with you.

As you may already know, the phone is freely available to buy now over in Korea, but the chances of finding the phone in the US or Europe at the moment is very slim indeed.

However, that’s all set to change as LG has just sent out a press release confirming that the LG Optimus 2X smartphone will be coming to the UK and rest of Europe at sometime during March, as reported by Engadget.

Key specs of the device include a 1Ghz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, a 4-inch display, 1080p playback and recording, 8 megapixel camera and 7.1 multi channel virtual surround sound.

The LG Optimus 2X is definitely one of the most desired handsets on the market right now, and we’re sure a few of you have already inquired about importing one over from Korea. There’s no need now though, as it will be available sometime this month – we’re guessing in a few weeks time.

Will you be picking up the LG Optimus 2X in Europe? We’ve added a video review below for you to watch.

Killzone 3: What’s Missing?

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 04:03 PM PST

Killzone 3: What’s Missing?

Earlier today Daniel offered you a hands-on review of Killzone 3, and for the most part he seemed very impressed. However, Chris offered details on five ways in which the game could be improved. What has shocked us the most was how the game became more popular than Black Ops, but this was bound to happen some time. We now look to Killzone 3 and ask what's missing?

For the most part Guerilla Games has done a very good job, but there are still a number of features that need to be added to make the game much better. It was our hands-on from earlier today that picked up on one issue, and that was how the characters seemed too predictable, which means that they were limited.

The Game Fanatics has listed 25 missing features that should have been included, and one of those was Weekly Honor Badges. The strange this is, this was in the previous game, so why did the developer decide to remove it? Clan Messaging is yet another feature that has been removed, which means that you can no longer keep in contact with your clan mates.

Knowing what missing feature is wanted the most is very tough, but at a guess we would have to say 3D theater mode. Hang on or would it be Spawn on squad leader, or maybe Proximity Chat? See what we mean, it is so hard to decide what is missing the most.

If you had to choose the one feature that you could have in Killzone 3, what would it be and why?
