Fisker Karma production date starts, price and recap

Fisker Karma production date starts, price and recap

You may remember when we posted some details on the Fisker Karma production date back in January, and then followed up the month after with some details on reviews of the car, and these showed how good the Fisker Karma was on the road.

Today we can inform you that the Karma plug-in car has started production with a price of $88,000, and Fisker plan to get the first vehicles to Europe and the United States in April.

California-based Fisker, who are under contract for Irvine, are making this vehicle that runs mainly on electricity up to about 50 miles before a fuel engine starts. They've began assembly on Tuesday at Valmet Automotive’s Finland plant in Uusikaupunki, said Roger Ormisher, a spokesman for Fisker.

The demand for vehicles that use hardly any gasoline has meant that Fisker are going to "mass produce plug-ins", as its their view that this area is going to explode over the coming years. With problems around the world in countries that hold most of the world's oil, its reassuring to know we're looking at cleaner ways to fuel our cars.

You can read more about the expected sales of these plug-in vehicles, and the financing rounds that Fisker completed via Auto Week. Are you looking to buy a cleaner vehicle over the coming months or years?

Koenigsegg Agera R Specs Vs Bugatti Veyron SS

Koenigsegg Agera R Specs Vs Bugatti Veyron SS

When you think of fast cars, nothing really compares to the Bugatti Veyron SS, but there are others that come close. One such supercar is the Koenigsegg Agera R, and with a possible 1,115 horsepower under your right foot, you can clearly see why this car has potential. However, you have just 940 horsepower as standard.

The good thing is, to get all that extra power you do not need to pay any extra money for an engine upgrade or other modifications, just fill the fuel tank up with E85 bio-ethanol instead of 95-octane gasoline. Who would have thought that going for a fuel that is more fuel-efficient will give you a power increase of 175hp.

So let us take a look at a few of the main specs of the new Agera R and see how it compares to the Super Sport. Firstly and most importantly is the engine, the Koenigsegg has a 5-liter V8 with twin turbos, The Veryon has a 8-litre W12 16 cylinder engine with a quad turbo system – seems like Bugatti wins that round then.

0 to 60 mph for the Agera R is just 2.9 seconds, the Veyron does it in 2.5 seconds. The top seed of the SS Veyron is 267.856 mph, the Agera R is said to hit over 242mph – although we have no official figures just yet. So looking at things it looks as though the Bugatti Veyron SS, has all things covered, but you certainly pay the price for it. Yes the Koenigsegg Agera R will also come with a hefty price tag, but not as much as the Bugatti.

Firefox 4 first day downloads blitz IE9

Firefox 4 first day downloads blitz IE9

When Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 just over a week ago, it managed some impressive download figures for its first day. Many felt it was Microsoft's best effort so far, but was it good enough to start clawing back some of the market share it has lost to its rivals?

After only 24 hours of its release IE9 managed to chalk up a pretty impressive 2.35 million downloads, according to an article on Techtree by Nachiket Mhatre. But when you compare it to what Firefox 4 has just achieved its not so good, as this was downloaded a staggering 4.7 million times on its first day.

This is still a lot lower compared to the last version which managed 8 million on its first day, but this was promoted more. The latest version of Firefox has even got 3D acceleration support that users of Windows XP can utilize.

Mozilla will be looking to further enlarge its user base with Firefox 4, but it has seen Google's Chrome which is now home to 10% of internet devices across the world. Whether Firefox can persuade users to ditch Chrome for its new version of browser remains to be seen.

But what other browsers could challenge the likes of Chrome and Firefox? Some of our readers have mentioned the often ignored Opera, or is they anything better which you use? Tell us what your favorite browser is.

If you own an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and you're a fan of the Resident Evil games, then we have a bit of news that could be of interest to you. Judging by this week's issue of Japanese video gaming magazine Famitsu, not one but two Resident Evil games are being remade for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

According to Spencer over at siliconera.com, word has it that both the Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica games are receiving the HD treatment as part of the Resident Evil: Revival Selection. It is unknown at this stage whether the two games will be bundled together or sold separately.

We don't really know that much information at this stage, other than Aya's 'Separate Ways' scenario that featured in the PlayStation 2 version of Resident Evil 4 will be included in the RE4 HD remake. We also know that the upcoming version of Resident Evil: Code Veronica is Code Veronica X.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X features extra cut scenes that were not included in the original Dreamcast release back in 2000. Both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica have been released on numerous platforms across the years, including PlayStation 2, Nintendo Gamecube and even Microsoft Windows.

Snow Leopard 10.6.7 Update: Problems With MacBook Air

Snow Leopard 10.6.7 Update: Problems With MacBook Air

Yesterday Apple made Snow Leopard 10.6.7 update available for download, but we failed to mention that although there were a number of fixes, there were also problems as well. One such issue was with the new MacBook Air, such as crashing.

It does seem stupid that this update was released mostly to resolve an issue with the MacBook Pro, but has now caused an issue for the MacBook Air. The main problem is to do with running the latest version of iTunes, which 9 to 5 Mac reports that users have to force the jukebox application to shutdown. It seems that users are able to start iTunes, but then after 20 seconds the application will freeze, which means that the Air will not respond to any commands.

Apple has yet to comment on the issue, but as always there is a workaround – just until a minor iTunes update becomes available. The first solution is to use TimeMachine, even if you do not have an external hard drive you can still use the internal storage. Having said that, most of us seem to have an external hard drive these days.

The easiest solution for now is to not download and update to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 just yet, not until Apple is able to resolve the issue – although this is a bit late for those who have already done so. I am not certain if I would want to fix this issue by using Repair Disk Permissions, I have done this in the past and my MacBook Air seems very slow to start-up now – but that is a different issue.

We do not know for certain if this affects all MacBook Air owners or those with just the new model – or even just a select few of those? Are you affected by this latest problem?

Netflix Outage in 2011: Twitter Confirms Down For 8 Hours

Netflix Outage in 2011: Twitter Confirms Down For 8 Hours

From what we know, this is the first Netflix outage in 2011, and for those who did not believe it to be a big issue, we can now tell you that Twitter confirms that the streaming service was down for 8 hours. That certainly is a long time to go without a service that users rely on so much, and the strange thing is, Netfix has not explained what the reason was for the downtime was. As far as we know, the last outage was back in October last year.

We cannot be certain what time the service went down, but we were informed by a number of our readers that it also affected things via the PS3 and the Roku box. PCMag learned that this was not all of the bad news, as it now seems that Netfilx is to scrap a number of its current shows from its Showtime service – things seem to be going from bad-to-worse.

Netflix seemed a little slow to reply to some of the tweets that was being sent to them on their official twitter page, and they cannot tell us that it was because they were working hard to resolve the issue – its not as if it would take all of them to fix the problem. They became aware of the issue, but did not seem to keep users in the loop, but at least they informed them that the service was finally up – as if they did not know themselves.

8 hours is a long time to go without Netflix, so how did this affect you? We would certainly like to know what you did with those eight hours without the use of the streaming service? Who knows, maybe this was the ideal time to spend a bit of time with the family and converse – lets not get stupid now?

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 Arriving on iOS This Month

It looks like the next couple of weeks are going to be a good two weeks for fans of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game series. Not only have they got the console release – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii – of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 title to look forward to, but also the arrival of the game on iOS.

Electronic Arts' golfing simulation game is due to arrive on the Apple App Store sometime this month, which according to a recent article by Eli Hodapp over at toucharcade.com could be Thursday 24th or Thursday 31st. The article also provides a few details about the upcoming iPhone / iPod Touch game.

A great new feature in the upcoming app is the 'closest to the pin' Facebook challenge, which is said to take place twice a week. Just like the ability to compete with friends in the Bejeweled 2 game using Facebook, players will be able to take a shot on a par 3 hole and see who can get the nearest to the hole.

The game will also include the 'Tiger Challenge,' which is a variety of mini-games that can earn players in-game cash. The cash earned can then be used to boost your golfer's stats or on the entrée fee of PGA events. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 comes with 8 courses, 8 PGA pros to play as and 4 different game modes.

Do you own an iPhone or iPod Touch? If so, will you be downloading the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 game?

HTC HD7S announced at CTIA 2011 – Does Better Screen Interest You?

HTC HD7S announced at CTIA 2011 – Does Better Screen Interest You?

In the midst of all the smartphone and tablet announcements at CTIA 2011, you may be interested to hear that AT&T has just announced the HTC HD7S, which is a new version of the Windows Phone 7 handset with one notable difference.

As you probably already know, the HTC HD7 has been available on T-Mobile in the US and on O2 in the UK for quite some time. However, AT&T has now got in on the action with the HTC HD7S which packs a much brighter display than the original HD7, as reported from PocketNow.

Rather than just 4.3-inch LCD screen, the HTC HD7S will have a 4.3-inch WVGA super LCD which is apparently a lot brighter than the HD7. Other specs include a 1Ghz processor, a 5 megapixel camera, 720p HD video recording and 8GB of internal memory.

Other than the change of display screen, the only notable differences is that you’ll have AT&T as carrier instead of T-Mobile, and that the handset will come pre-loaded with the NoDo copy and paste update that is now beginning to roll out to WP7 devices.

The question is though, is just a better screen enough to warrant a purchase? The large display is pretty stunning, but we can’t help but feel there are still better handsets out there for your money, like the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. Let us know your thoughts on it.

Steve Jobs on iPad 2 Release: Stock, Availability, and Patience

Steve Jobs on iPad 2 Release: Stock, Availability, and Patience

When Steve Jobs announced the iPad 2 release earlier this month, some of those in other countries was upset that they would have to wait a little longer than those in the US. However, the news that Apple is to release their latest tablet device in 25 other countries was seen as great news, which you can read more on in our recent article. However, there is still the issue with all the latest rumors regarding the stock and availability of the iPad 2, and how much patience we all have.

There is no denying how popular the iPad has been, some rival tablet devices are still unable to match its popularity. We know that there are now one or two new tablet devices on the market that now makes the current iPad look old and tired, but that is where the 2nd-generation model comes in. Demand is already huge for the new model, so much so, that there is now talk that people will not be able to get their hands on one. However, reading what Steve Jobs had to say on the Apple UK website, he believes that there is no such issue.

For those who do not know too much about this, it is quite easy to jump to conclusions why we would assume that the iPad 2 would be delayed. One of those main reasons was the disaster that took place in Japan, which we know is a world leader in consumer electronics devices and components. However, this is not the case, and according to a recent article on Computer World, Apple still intends to fulfill in promise.

Having said that, Jonny Evans adds that supplies of the iPad 2 could still be constrained, even though Steve Jobs says otherwise. It will certainly be hard to see how Apple will be able to keep up with demand, they faced a supple issue with the first iPad, and that was when there was no disaster to contend with. One would assume that Japanese companies are doing all they can to meet demand for such components, but they will have to face facts that the likes of Apple and others will have to sought out new suppliers to meet with consumer demand.

Will you have the patience if iPad 2 supplies became an issue, if so would it make you consider a rival tablet device – if they do not have the same issues as Apple?

LG G-Slate Hands on Video from CTIA 2011

We have more on the LG G-Slate tablet now, and by more we mean a brand new hands-on video of the device which has just been captured at the ongoing CTIA 2011 event. The device is due for release soon, and is definitely turning a few heads with it’s impressive hardware capabilities.

The video has been provided by the guys over at Android Central, and it’s actually a video showing the official unveiling by LG at CTIA 2011. We get an introduction to some of the specs on the device by the lovely ‘LG girl’ followed by a look at how the device handles multimedia tasks such as 3D gaming using the accelerometer – the game played is actually Need for Speed Shift if you were wondering why the graphics were so good.

We then see how the web browser handles on the G-Slate and if you look at the video, you’ll see just how responsive scrolling through the pages is – which is probably due to the included 1Ghz Tegra 2 dual-core processor which powers the device.

Finally, there’s a quick look at the camcorder on the G-Slate and a reminder that the device will be able to shoot 3D videos. Take a look at the video below and let us know if you’re impressed with the G-Slate or not. It’s out sometime this month, priced at $529 on contract with T-Mobile.

NFC chips, hype and the iPhone 5 connection

NFC chips, hype and the iPhone 5 connection

When it comes to NFC (Near Field Communication) most of us do not know too much about the technology, but over the past few weeks and months you would have heard people talking about the chips hype and everything else that goes with an exciting piece of technology that could change how we pay for things in the future. One handset that could have this new connection type is the iPhone 5.

We already discussed a few days ago about the possibility of the fifth-generation iPhone and how NFC will not be included, but as we have yet to see any proof of this – we can still hope that Apple has seen the future of this soon to be preferred way to pay for items while in store.

However, let us not forget that while this is seen by most as a far better way for paying for items, as it means that you would no-longer need to carry credit/debit cards, there is still the security risk involved. We know that the service is already in use, but we do no know how safe it is once it has been introduced to the masses – and there is no greater chance to learn this than by having NFC built in to the iPhone 5.

There seems to be so much hype surrounding this latest technology, and for those who do not see any future in this, you only have to look how we have already embraced our smartphone and apps to already do a number of things to make our lives much easier while shopping. There are already apps on the market that allow you to view what deals a certain store has going, which you can then log on and make your purchase. You can also use you handset to log in to your bank account and perform a number of task, so being able to pay for items just by using your smartphone – hopefully the iPhone 5 – does not seem so stupid after all.

Do you believe in all the hype of NFC, and will you embrace what is said to be the future way to pay for things?

BlackBerry PlayBook Vs iPad 2, Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and G-Slate: Price Factors

BlackBerry PlayBook Vs iPad 2, Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and G-Slate: Price Factors

We informed you recently about the long overdue announcement of official pricing for RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook. Now that we know it’s going to cost $500 for the WiFi model, how does the price compare to other tablets that are already out or due in the next few months?

The Playbook is a tablet which is very much on a lot of your shopping lists. Likely reasons are the fact that it is more business orientated that the other tablets, although it’s multimedia features are definitely up to par with other tablets on the market. Aside from running on a brand new BlackBerry OS designed specifically for the Playbook, you’ll also get a 1Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and two HD 1080P cameras (5MP back, 3MP front),

Along with the pricing, we now also know that the Playbook will be coming to AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, so it will also be 4G supported on Sprint at least. But does the $500 price tag along with the hardware specs and features appeal to you, compared with other tablets?

The entry level WiFi iPad 2 is also priced at $499, while the Motorola Xoom comes in at $599 for the WiFi version. Just this week we learned that the LG G-Slate will be priced at $529 after a $100 mail-in rebate, but this includes 4G support via T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network, which you don’t get on other tablets. As for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, pricing is yet to be disclosed, but it’s likely to fall between the $499 and $599 price mark for the WiFi version at least.

With this in mind, which tablet offers the best value? We have to say that the G-Slate is a good bet at $529, since that price includes 4G network speeds. Is the BlackBerry Playbook appealing to you at $499 or not?

Crysis 2 Review Roundup and Launch Trailer for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

As gaming fans across the globe will be well aware, Crysis 2 is now available to buy over in the US, with a release to follow in the UK at the end of the week. As a result, Crysis 2 reviews are now going live everywhere, and we have a roundup to give you, as well as a look at the official launch trailer for the game.

Just like the early magazine reviews that we told you about a few days ago, the online reviews for the game all seem to suggest that Crysis 2 is an excellent game, with the majority of reviews all positive – we’re yet to hear about a bad review score for the game yet – have you?

The likes of Eurogamer have gone for an 8/10, while IGN have scored the game an impressive 9/10. GameTrailers have given a 91% score, and 1UP has praised Crysis 2 with an A- rating and said that it’s ‘possibly the most visually impressive game you’ll play all year’ – now that’s a bold statement.

We all know that Crysis 1 set the benchmark for graphics on the PC (and arguably still does), so it’s great to hear that the graphics are once again turning heads for the sequel. Most visually impressive game of the game though? – We’re sure Battlefield 3 may have something to say about that!

Are you unsuprised with the great review scores for the game? Check out a roundup of some links below, you’ll also find the official launch trailer too just to wet your appetite if you haven’t got the game yet.

Eurogamer – 8

1UP – A-

HTC EVO View 4G: Release Date ETA and Specs – Good Enough to Compete?

HTC EVO View 4G: Release Date ETA and Specs – Good Enough to Compete?

Along with the official announcement of the HTC EVO 3D handset, Sprint has just gone live with another – the HTC EVO View 4G, which is Sprint’s version of the HTC Flyer tablet that we’ve told you about before.

The EVO View 4G will be a 7-inch device, and will be available to buy sometime this Summer, again no solid date as with the HTC EVO 3D. The specs are fairly interesting though, and the device will certainly pose a question as to whether or not it can compete with the likes of the iPad 2, Xoom and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

We say this, as the HTC EVO View 4G won’t possess a dual-core processor like the tablets we mentioned above. Instead it will come with a super speedy 1.5Ghz processor, which will obviously make this the fastest single core tablet on the market. Other specs include a 5 megapixel rear camera coupled with a 1.3MP front camera for video chats.

You’ll also get 1GB of RAM, 4G support via Sprint’s WiMAX network, 32GB built-in memory and support for more via MicroSD, and also HTC’s new Scribe technology using the included stylus pen. No mention about which version of Android this will be running yet though. The pictures appear to show Froyo, but we’re guessing HTC will be put under a lot of pressure to have this running Gingerbread by the time Summer approaches.

What are your thoughts on the HTC EVO View 4G? Is it a good enough tablet for you, compared with the dual-core competition that has already been announced? We’re looking forward to seeing just how quick this 1.5Ghz processor is. Stay tuned for further analysis. You can view the official press release from Sprint here.

Windows Phone 7: NoDo Update Live – Happy after Download?

We recently informed you that the much talked about NoDo update for Windows Phone 7 handsets had been leaked online over at XDA Developers Forums for users to attempt to download if they wished. Now there is no need though, as we’re hearing Microsoft has just started the rollout process.

As most of you should be aware, the NoDo codename is essentially just a fancy name for the highly anticipated copy and paste update, and you’ll be pleased to know that there doesn’t appear to be any update problems that previously troubled WP7 users after Microsoft’s first software update – everything ok Omnia 7 users?

Other new additions in the NoDo update include a speed boost for games and applications, a much better WiFi performance, camera improvements, tweak to Facebook, better Marketplace search and also improvements to audio quality, as reported from Engadget.

As detailed on the official WP7 website, the update is now rolling out – have you got it yet? Don’t worry if you haven’t received the download, as the rollout process is likely to last a few weeks, especially given Microsoft’s track record. HTC EVO 3D: Release Date ETA and First Pictures at CTIA 2011

We told you yesterday that the HTC EVO 3D was coming after specs had been revealed prior to it’s announcement at CTIA 2011, and now we can confirm that Sprint has just unveiled the glasses-free 3D device, and it will be exclusive to their network as well.

For those who don’t know yet, the HTC EVO 3D features a 4.3-inch QHD 3D Display as well as dual 5 megapixel cameras that can shoot 3D images and video. It’s not just the 3D features that make this handset stand out though, as it also comes with the latest hardware tech as well, so it’s a phone definitely worth considering.

It also packs a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 3G and 4G mobile hotspot support via WiMAX, a 1.3 megapixel front camera, 1GB of RAM and Google Voice – those are some of the highlights on top of the standard connectivity options you’ll get on the handset.

According to Sprint’s press release, the HTC EVO 4G will release sometime this Summer, we don’t have a solid date for you yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we do. You can view a great picture of the device below, taken from CTIA 2011. You’ll can view a full gallery over at Engadget here if you want to see more pictures.

Amazon App Store For Android: Revolution Starts Now

Earlier today the Amazon App Store For Android opened its virtual doors (as we predicted), now we are wondering whether this will be the start of a revolution and perhaps replace the Android Market as the number one place to buy your apps for your Android device.

Having Angry Birds Rio as an exclusive is not the only thing in the new App Store’s favor, people will trust Amazon thanks to the years of great service they have served as an online retailer, also the store features a simple payment system and let’s you try before you buy.

The Android Market is good, however a lot of people think that it is not governed strictly enough, this has resulted in lots of low-quality apps finding their way onto the market. which has in-turn resulted in it becoming hard to find good apps. Could the Amazon App Store be a possible Android Market replacement?

We don’t see the Amazon App Store as being an Android Market replacement just yet, however if Amazon make purchasing great apps a hassle-free experience and continue to deliver the quality service we are used to seeing Google may have to have a think about the direction their Android Market is heading.

Do you think Amazon’s App Store will become a true replacement to the Android Market?

Great news now for all you AT&T customers out there that are thinking of buying the upcoming Acer Iconia Tab A501 tablet PC, as the wireless network provider has just announced that it will be supporting the 4G tablet when it launches sometime this summer.

It also features a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a high-definition front-facing camera for video calls and a HDMI port, which enables users to play 1080p video on their big screen HDTVs. Distribution and pricing details will be revealed closer to the tablet's launch.
